Sisters at the Door
Kexi looked at Mornye, then looked down at her crystal prosthetic limb, and her mind went blank.
The Tacet Mark is gone. How can there be resonance? The Resonance Synchronization required by the system must be achieved through Tacet Mark contact. Now that the Tacet Mark is gone, he can't exactly kiss a prosthetic limb, can he?
"Ah?"
Mornye noticed his surprise, and the blush on her face was replaced by a faint bitterness.
She didn't say anything more, but simply tucked the crystal prosthetic leg under her skirt, a subtle hint of inferiority in her gesture.
Kexi's mind was racing.
The mission is stuck here; the Mornye route is blocked.
Since that's not an option, let's not waste our time.
He looked up at the wall clock, pretending to have suddenly remembered something important.
"Um, I'm hungry, I'll go eat first."
He turned to leave.
Mornye paused for a moment, then subconsciously took half a step to follow.
"Hey, aren't you going to invite me to have dinner with you?"
Kexi stopped and turned back to her with a very embarrassed expression. "Oh, well, I'm sorry, Teacher Mornye. My family is quite poor and can't afford to feed too many people."
"But isn't Montelli the richest man in Rinascita?"
"Really? Who said that? I didn't know anything about it." Kexi shrugged, her expression innocent as if it were true. "I'm so poor I'm practically eating dirt. You can't believe those rumors."
Mornye opened her mouth, as if she wanted to say something, Kexi had already turned around and walked towards the door.
Mornye tried one last time. "Then, can I treat you to a meal? As a way of thanking you for those letters."
Kexi waved her hand without turning her head. "No, I don't eat very well, and I can't eat with outsiders around."
"Huh?"
Mornye stared at his retreating figure in disbelief.
She fell into deep self-doubt.
Was she annoying? Or was he disappointed to see her like this?
Mornye clutched the hem of her skirt beside her prosthetic leg in disappointment.
She felt inferior.
Kexi simply abandoned Mornye and left alone.
To avoid being bothered by her, he even went to Margaret Restaurant for dinner.
He had just reached the front hall and was about to slip out through the side door when a figure blocked his way.
Where to go?
Carlotta appeared out of nowhere, hands on her hips, completely blocking the way.
Kexi gave an awkward smile, "Second sister, I'm going out for a meal."
"What do you mean, can't we eat at home?" Carlotta narrowed her eyes, and the look in her eyes that said, "I've seen through all your tricks," sent a chill down Kexi's spine.
"A picnic is better than a home-cooked meal." Kexi tried to walk around her.
"Bullshit!"
"You smelled it?"
"..."
Carlotta jumped up and hit his knee.
"You're asking for a beating!"
"What did you do yesterday? You spent 380,000 of my Monnaie! Are you a pig? How can you eat so much?!"
Kexi jumped up in pain, hugging her knees and hopping on one leg. "I was wrong, I was wrong, Second Sister! I was wrong!"
Carlotta dusted off imaginary dust from her hands, grabbed Kexi by the back of her collar, and dragged her back. "Come with me. A business partner of mine specifically asked for you."
As Kexi was dragged along, she wailed, "Someone else is looking for me? Who is it? Why are they all lining up today?"
"You'll see when you get there." Carlotta without turning her head.
Kexi was dragged by Carlotta to another reception room.
He now wants to turn around and run away whenever he sees the reception room.
Carlotta pushed him into the doorway, then stood there without going in herself.
Kexi staggered a couple of steps to regain her balance and looked up.
Then he felt like he'd been electrocuted.
gold.
Everything was golden.
Golden Legend!
The woman sitting on the sofa was wearing a dazzling gold cheongsam, and her hair was also a brilliant gold. She was holding a teacup. When she heard the noise, she looked up and saw Kexi's dumbfounded face reflected in her pupils.
"Fourth Senior Sister?!" Kexi blurted out.
Suisui frowned, her teacup hovering in mid-air, her tone clearly filled with doubt. "What senior sister?"
Kexi suddenly realized: this was reality.
"It's nothing." He coughed lightly and gave a slight bow. "Miss Suisui reminds me of an old friend. My apologies."
Suisui looked at him for two seconds and didn't ask any further questions.
She turned her gaze to Carlotta in the doorway, her voice gentle yet carrying an undeniable weight. "Miss Carlotta, could you please excuse me for a moment? I'd like to speak with him alone."
Carlotta glanced at Kexi, her eyes saying, "Good luck to you," then closed the door and left.
The reception room fell silent.
Suisui placed the teacup on the coffee table, not in a hurry to speak, but instead scrutinized Kexi with a critical gaze.
That gaze wasn't cold; it even carried a hint of gentleness, but Kexi felt as if she were being stared at by a golden tigress, and the fur on her entire body was about to stand on end.
Suisui took a letter out of her handbag.
The envelope's material, the pattern on the sealing wax, and the location of the creases were exactly the same as the previous four envelopes he had seen that day.
Kexi's Adam's apple bobbed.
"This letter, you wrote it to me, didn't you?" Suisui's voice, like her temperament, was soft and sweet, but Kexi could detect a knife in it.
Suisui didn't know was that it wasn't long after she arrived in Montelli...
Yangyang also came, and Carlotta received her.
"Who are you? What brings you to Montelli?" Carlotta asked bluntly.
Today's guests are coming one after another, and the key point is that they all came to see Kexi.
"I am Yangyang, the younger sister of Suisui, a director of the Zhaoming Merchant Association. I have come here to pay a visit to the Third Young Master of Montelli."
have to.
Another one.
When Carlotta heard that she was Suisui's younger sister and was also looking for Kexi, her eyes were filled with complicated emotions. Why were both sisters looking for Kexi? So she told her that Kexi was in another living room, but she didn't tell Yangyang that Suisui was there too.
Kexi calmed down after seeing the letter in Suisui's hand.
He has seen the same envelope four times today; his nerves have become unusually resilient after being repeatedly whipped.
That's how it is anyway.
One more or one less makes no difference.
Let's just bring them all.
He pulled out a chair, sat down, and looked up to meet Suisui's eyes.
"I wrote it," he said.
What about Yangyang?
A slight crack appeared in Kexi's expression.
"You don't need to deny it." Suisui picked up her teacup and took a sip. "I noticed it when I was little. Besides me, Yangyang has also been receiving your letters."
Kexi's Adam's apple bobbed.
"I was young then, and I thought it was amazing that someone wrote me a letter. I didn't tell anyone, not even Yangyang."
Suisui put down her teacup, tilted her head, and let her golden hair slip down her shoulder. "Until one day, I bumped into her reading a letter. The envelope was exactly the same as mine."
Her gaze went straight into Kexi's eyes, a faint smile playing on her lips, like a tiger that had already wrapped its tail around its prey's ankle.
"I'm really curious. What kind of trick are you trying to play by writing to both me and Yangyang at the same time, you unknown letter writer?"
Kexi sensed a dangerous smell in the air.
If not handled properly, he might be in serious trouble.
