Just as Kexi was about to get up and leave, the golden figure flashed back in, more than three times faster than when it left.

Suisui leaned against the door, her chest heaving slightly, her pupils filled with panic, her face no longer showing the calm, cat-and-mouse demeanor she had just displayed.

"Why are you back again?" Kexi stood up, looking puzzled.

"Yangyang's here." Suisui's voice was very low, as if afraid of being overheard by the person outside the door. "I saw her walk this way."

Kexi's heart skipped a beat.

One Suisui has just left, Yangyang is already here? Will this ever end?

Suisui didn't bother arguing with him and quickly scanned the living room with her eyes.

It was excessively empty; there was only a sofa, a coffee table, and two chairs, not even a decent cabinet, let alone a place to hide.

She was so anxious that she spun around in a circle.

"There's not even a place to hide here," she muttered, watching the footsteps in the corridor grow closer.

Kexi bent down and patted under the coffee table. "Under the table. You crawl in, I'll cover you."

Suisui glared at him. "You want me to crawl under the table?"

"Then why don't you stand behind the door? She'll see you as soon as she comes in." Kexi shrugged.

Suisui gritted her teeth, her face filled with humiliation, but the footsteps were already close at hand.

She lifted her skirt and, in a disheveled manner completely out of place, slipped under the coffee table.

Kexi plopped down on the sofa, crossed her legs, and just barely covered most of the space under the table.

He straightened his collar, trying to appear as if nothing had happened.

The door was pushed open.

A girl stood at the door. The moment she saw Kexi, she felt as if she had been gently bumped; her eyes suddenly lit up, then quickly welled up with tears.

That expression was hard to describe; it contained surprise, grievance, and the feeling of finally seeing someone you'd been waiting for so long—all of it swirling in your eyes.

"Is that you?" Her voice was very soft, like a feather falling on the water.

She walked up to Kexi, looked up at him with red eyes, as if she wanted to remember him from head to toe.

Do you know how long I've been looking for you?

Her voice trembled, each word carrying a quiver of breath, "I've kept every single one of your letters. Every time I move to a new place, the first thing I put in my bag is your letter. I often wonder what the person who wrote those letters looks like, what kind of person they are. I've even thought about what my first words should be if I ever find them."

Kexi looked down at her, her throat tightening slightly.

"I thought of so many opening lines." Yangyang sniffed, as if trying to hold back her tears, but the tears still rolled down her cheeks. "Like, 'Hello, I'm Yangyang,' like, 'I'm so happy to receive your letter,' like, 'We've finally met, I've been looking forward to this day for so long.' But now that I'm here, I realize none of those things matter anymore."

She took a step forward, raised her head, stood on tiptoe, and gently grasped the front of Kexi's clothes with both hands.

"You really are, aren't you?" she asked, her eyelashes wet and clumped together, gazing at him expectantly.

Kexi didn't know how to answer. He could only nod.

Yangyang smiled, a smile tinged with tears, like the sky suddenly clearing after the rain.

Without further hesitation, she buried her face in Kexi's arms, wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, and buried her face in his chest, her voice muffled.

I've been wanting to see you so much. So, so much.

Kexi stood frozen in place, her hands hanging in mid-air, unsure of what to do.

He hasn't said a word since she came in; it's all her own self-pity.

He could feel her slight trembling, and he could feel her warm tears slowly soaking his shirt.

He never imagined that a girl he had never met would invest such deep feelings in him.

The letters he wrote to her were just casual notes in his eyes, but for her, they were the only hope that kept her going through countless days and nights.

He hesitated for a moment, then raised his hand and gently placed it on the back of her head. She didn't look up, but simply hugged him tighter.

"In your letter, you said that if we ever met, the first thing you'd do was hug me." Yangyang's voice was soft and gentle. "I thought then that if that day ever came, I wouldn't want you to hug me first; I'd hug you first. Because I wanted you to know that I wasn't just responding to you. I really wanted to hold you."

Kexi felt as if her heart had been squeezed.

He opened his mouth, about to say something, when a muffled thud suddenly came from under the coffee table behind him.

It looked like something had hit the edge of the table.

Yangyang was startled. She let go of Kexi, took a half step back, her face still wet with tears, and looked behind him with a confused expression.

What was that sound?

Kexi stiffened. "It's nothing, probably just a rat."

"Rats?" Yangyang frowned. "Are there rats in the Montelli Manor?"

"It's inevitable that there will be one or two." Kexi remained expressionless, even gently tapping the table leg with her heel to signal the people below to behave.

But Suisui under the table had completely given in.

She curled up in the cramped space, her shoulders resting against the side of the coffee table, listening to her dear sister say to Kexi in a tearful voice, "I really, really want to see you," each word like a needle pricking her heart.

She wondered what she was hiding from, and why she was hiding from it.

My sister has been completely fooled by this shameless bastard; she's actually fallen in love with a complete stranger with whom she's only ever exchanged letters.

No!!!

She couldn't let Yangyang jump into the pit, even if it meant making her misunderstand her or hate her.

She must expose his true colors to Yangyang and make her face reality.

The thought burned like fire from her heart to her throat.

She couldn't hold on any longer.

The coffee table was suddenly overturned.

Kexi felt a gust of wind behind him. He instinctively dodged to the side and saw Suisui stand up from behind the overturned coffee table, her chest heaving and her eyes red.

"Sister?!" Yangyang's eyes widened, her mouth forming a small circle. "What are you doing here?"

Suisui didn't look at her; her gaze was fixed straight on Kexi's face.

Her chest heaved, her lips moved as if a thousand words were stuck in her throat, but in the end, they only turned into a trembling and urgent question.

"Kexi, why are you dodging?" She took a step forward, her voice filled with an indescribable grievance. "Didn't you say you were serious about me too? Then why didn't you dodge when she tried to hug you?"

Kexi was dumbfounded. What was going on? Wasn't she the one who wanted to hide? His mind was a mess. He opened his mouth to explain, but found himself at a loss for words.

Yangyang's gaze swept back and forth between Suisui and Kexi twice, her confusion deepening.

"Sister, why are you hiding under the table when you're a guest in Montelli?"

She took a step back, her eyes wide with surprise. "Sister, you know him? Could it be that you also...?"

Suisui glanced at Yangyang with red eyes; her gaze held guilt, but even more so, anger.

She kept her chin taut, not denying it.

"Yes." She raised her chin. "I received his letter too. And I've known him for just as long as you have."

The air in the reception room seemed to have been sucked out.

Kexi was sandwiched between the two, with a ball of fire on each side.

He was completely dumbfounded. What was going on?!

All he wanted to do right now was to pull himself back into bed from this morning, and he didn't care who did it, just not let Carlotta kick open his door.
