Background / History

Childhood and the Astral Express

Himeko grew up hearing stories of the Astral Express from the man she believed was her father, Ryusuke. Those stories inspired her longing for the stars. As a child, she became lost in a forest and followed a shooting star to a coast, where she discovered the crashed Express. Recognizing it from the stories, she spent her spare time studying trains and repairing it 23 37.

After completing the repairs, Himeko hesitated to depart. The Ancestral Weathering Curse had begun causing severe pain, and she feared dying before she could see the stars. Unable to ignite the engine and running out of time, she entered the Phantasmoon Games hoping that, if she had to die, she could at least die close to the stars 23 37.

She also created Suzi through Imagenesis, combining elements of Wojian and Doriko with her own imagined future as a navigator 23.

Rescue and the truth about Ryusuke

Sera’s group first encounters Himeko and Suzi during an attack by a clone of Shuhu. Himeko narrowly avoids a strike using her wheelchair’s jets, while Suzi protects her with a spear. Yaoguang shields her from another attack, and Busitu disposes of the monster 21.

After Sera weakens her curse, Himeko agrees to help confront Shuhu. His account of a possible future troubles her: she could reach the stars, but Suzi would sacrifice herself in the process. Sera promises that their future will be different with him present 22.

Learning that Stargazer Wojian has become Finality shakes Himeko’s childhood admiration for him. Nevertheless, she resolves to stop him before he causes further harm—even if doing so costs her life and her chance to reach the stars 23.

After the confrontation with Shuhu, Sera reveals that the real Ryusuke died before Himeko ever met him. Finality had impersonated her father throughout their life together. Finality acknowledges the deception and claims to have cherished the role, but Himeko rejects his belief that humanity needs a terrifying final trial to reveal its worth 24 25.

Choosing the Trailblaze

Through Black Tomb’s connection to another timeline, Himeko meets a navigator version of herself from fifteen years later. Her counterpart reassures her that the stars are beautiful and that she will find companions. Seeing Suzi still beside the younger Himeko, the navigator recognizes that their futures have already diverged 28.

Once Sera completely removes her curse, Himeko admits that she has long wanted to invite him aboard the Express. He helps her understand that its engine responds to the will to Trailblaze. She also welcomes Cyrene and remembers her promise to find March 7th in her own timeline 36 37.

During the Holy Grail War, Himeko summons Rider, Stargazer Wojian. This Wojian condemns Finality’s betrayal and vows to confront him, even though he is his own future self. Himeko is relieved to learn that Rider embodies the Wojian of the stories she admired 43 45.

Becoming navigator

Himeko joins Sera’s coalition against Oswald Schneider. Watching Wojian summon the Astral Express makes her own answer about the Trailblaze clear 62 63.

When Finality later attacks through his three manifestations, Himeko raises her spear and uses three Command Spells to call the Express. Her conviction finally ignites its engine. She also summons Starblazer to intercept an attack aimed at the train, then confronts Finality about his impersonation of her father. During the battle, Sera formally recognizes her as navigator by granting her a ticket and leading her through the Trailblaze Creed 65.

Himeko subsequently brings the Express into her studio in the Tavern, reaching a newly built location untouched by the Trailblaze. Pom-Pom reports that the visit provides additional fuel for the train. She later helps suppress Voracity through painted possibilities and prepares the Express for the first recorded landing on Phantasmoon 68 74 75.

Despite wanting to accompany Sera on a later departure, Himeko remains behind with Suzi because she cannot leave the Express unattended 119.

Personality

Himeko is a committed idealist. She acknowledges humanity’s imperfections without accepting Finality’s conclusion that people must be subjected to catastrophe. Her admiration for Wojian does not prevent her from opposing him once she learns what he has become 23 25.

Her enthusiasm for exploration initially struggles against fear of dying before departure. Once she regains her health and understands her own convictions, she embraces the Trailblaze with renewed energy, eagerly welcoming companions and celebrating unexplored destinations 37 75.

She is noticeably shy around Sera, despite greeting strangers and livestream viewers naturally. Suzi frequently encourages her to approach him. Her affection also makes her protective: when Xuzhao teases Sera, Himeko wants to intervene even after learning that Xuzhao is Aha 46 49 69 118.

Himeko treats experimentation as an extension of the Trailblaze—even in the kitchen. She can prepare enjoyable coffee, but repeatedly adds unusual ingredients and defends the practice as “very Trailblaze” 51 52 54.
