Mysterious Revival: Starting by Controlling the Person-Hiding Ghost, Part 45
"Back in Dachang City, I thought it was strange. Why did you leave that feather on me and stay on my body?"
"Had you planned it all along, intending to use this operation to go after the ghosts in the cave?"
Jiang Li glanced back at the Corpse-Dragging Ghost and couldn't help grinning.
"To be honest, I don't see what's so strong about you, bird ghost, yet you dared set your sights on the Corpse-Dragging Ghost. But since you dared think it, I'll grant your wish."
With that, Jiang Li even set aside the idea of reclaiming this quarter of the Ghost Crow for the moment. Using the pale Ghost Hand, he seized it and hurled it at the approaching Corpse-Dragging Ghost.
The Ghost Crow seemed not to have expected this turn of events and hesitated briefly.
When it resumed the form of a crow and tried to fly away,
The Corpse-Dragging Ghost had already reached it.
Its other hand, equally twisted but not enormous, clamped tightly around the Ghost Crow and slammed it to the ground with an uncanny, monstrous strength.
Immediately afterward, a livid, blackish sole covered in livor mortis came down, pinning it underfoot.
The thick, inky-black toenails, packed with black mud, seemed to have split open in several places, oozing dark red blood.
Then the Corpse-Dragging Ghost lifted its foot and resumed walking toward Liu Qingqing.
Only a disheveled, ink-black feather remained on the ground, and there was no further movement.
At the sight, Jiang Li frowned.
How did it lose so quickly?
Could it be that this Ghost Crow alone really can't deal with the Corpse-Dragging Ghost, and it needs the other two to join in?
Forget it. I'll get Liu Qingqing out of the way first.
If I can't deal with the Corpse-Dragging Ghost now, the worst I can do is escape the cave first and find another chance to contain it later.
Although the Ghost Domain that had been dispersed around him was gradually recovering, he only needed to use the supernatural power of the Ghost Crow's shriek once more to leave this suffocating place.
As he was thinking this, Jiang Li suddenly noticed that the feather on the ground seemed to have changed.
The disheveled feather twisted and swelled again, turning into a crow's head.
The crow's head trembled for a moment, then slowly opened its beak. It opened wider and wider, stopping only when the entire head had almost split apart.
"What does that mean? Does it just want to let out a scream?"
Jiang Li was puzzled, but the next moment he noticed that the Ghost Crow on his shoulder had also opened its mouth wide, as though it meant to cry out with the other.
The other two Ghost Crows, which had not gone far, froze for a moment, then stopped involuntarily. Their originally human heads gradually twisted into crows' heads, and they opened their beaks.
"Caw-!!!"
Four shrill, raspy caws overlapped wildly, echoing through the cramped cavern as though the entire cavern were trembling.
Jiang Li let out a muffled groan. His head felt ready to split, and the world before his eyes seemed to spin.
The Person-Hiding Ghost on his shoulder simply closed its eyes, its whole body swaying precariously atop him.
Not far away, He Tianxiong clutched his head and rolled back and forth on the ground, looking as though he were in immense pain.
But at the same time,
The Corpse-Dragging Ghost's footsteps stopped too.
The fierce ghost centipede dragging behind it began to writhe restlessly, and the countless fierce ghosts strung together let out soundless wails.
They struggled incessantly on the ground, making a slimy, bizarre noise that sent an involuntary shudder through him.
They were like a living centipede being roasted over a fire.
The fierce ghosts' agitation was exceptionally violent, and it was transmitted without restraint to the first Hanging Corpse the Corpse-Dragging Ghost was dragging.
Before long, it could no longer hold on to the entire writhing chain of corpses behind it.
In an instant, the whole fierce ghost centipede fell apart, scattering into more than a dozen fierce ghosts that twisted and struggled on the ground.
Jiang Li looked up and froze.
Then he suddenly noticed that the two Ghost Crows were hurrying toward him, looking extremely eager.
Not only are they not running away, they're coming straight toward me?
After a moment's thought, Jiang Li also lunged toward the fierce ghosts more than ten meters away.
Since these ghosts haven't recovered yet, they probably aren't very dangerous right now either, are they?
Coming up to a fierce ghost dressed in coarse hemp, Jiang Li threw all caution aside and used the deathly pale Ghost Hand to stuff it straight into the wooden chest.
After entering the chest, the fierce ghost soon fell into a hole in the wall of the wooden chest's basement and vanished without a trace.
Seeing that it worked, Jiang Li's eyes gleamed as he looked at the other ghosts.
How are these fierce ghosts?
They're walking humanoid vaults!
When he breathed again, he could almost smell the sweet scent of gold filling the air.
As he packed the ghosts away, Jiang Li also made sure to pick up the crow's head the Ghost Crow had turned into. He opened the Ghost Crow Mask's beak and swallowed it in one gulp.
Gulp.
Soon, that other quarter of the Ghost Crow returned to Jiang Li's body, becoming a streak of ink black on his eyeball.
After putting on the Ghost Crow Mask, Jiang Li himself had become the Ghost Crow's source. The other Ghost Crows were merely pieces of its ghost puzzle scattered elsewhere, utterly unable to contend with Jiang Li as the source.
After reclaiming the second Ghost Crow that had been scattered outside, Jiang Li could clearly feel that his own supernatural balance had been considerably affected.
Previously, after being affected by both the Newspaper Ghost and the deathly pale Ghost Hand, the Person-Hiding Ghost itself had not brought much pressure from revival.
But as the Ghost Crow's supernatural power manifested and was reclaimed, the supernatural powers inside him were gradually falling out of balance.
In other words, the Person-Hiding Ghost's supernatural power was almost no longer strong enough to suppress the Ghost Crow.
Once he completely reclaimed all the Ghost Crow puzzle pieces, he would face immense pressure from fierce ghost revival and have no choice but to set out immediately to find a supernatural power that could balance the Ghost Crow.
Even as he thought this, Jiang Li's hands never stopped packing the fierce ghosts into the chest.
At the same time, his eyeball, which had turned ink black, was faintly out of control, rolling around in a bizarre fashion.
He Tianxiong watched Jiang Li crouching on the ground, packing up ghosts with something that looked like a sack. He gritted his teeth, struggled to his feet, and shouted:
"Brother Jiang!"
"My ghost is in there too! Don't pack mine up and take it away!"

Hearing He Tianxiong's words, Jiang Li's hand hesitated as it reached for a ghost. Then he turned and replied:
"President He, since you want to buy this ghost, I'll part with it, painful as that is."
"1.5 billion. Remember to transfer it to my account later."
With that, Jiang Li continued frantically packing ghosts away, tossing them into the wooden chest one by one.
Although he still didn't know what use the chest had for the ghosts it swallowed now,
There were no gold cases at hand, nor were there Coffin Nails to pin them down. The safest course was to throw all these ghosts, which were on the verge of waking, into the chest.
Halfway through picking up the corpses, Jiang Li suddenly realized that the Hanging Corpse didn't seem to be near him. He searched all around but couldn't find it.
Looking around, Jiang Li immediately spotted it: the two Ghost Crows had stolen the Hanging Corpse at some point and were dragging it farther and farther away from him.
Seeing this, Jiang Li immediately stopped what he was doing and quickly chased after the two Ghost Crows.
Although several fierce ghosts beside him had yet to be packed away and were still struggling on the ground,
His intuition told Jiang Li that none of those ghosts mattered. Only the Corpse-Dragging Ghost and the Hanging Corpse truly mattered.
As long as he could obtain the Hanging Corpse, it wouldn't matter even if he lost all the fierce ghosts beside him.
With that thought, Jiang Li used the Person-Hiding Ghost's supernatural power to vanish from where he stood, his actual body rapidly closing in on the Ghost Crows ahead.
Beneath him, a circular black shadow was also moving silently, with the hand that pulled people lying dormant inside it.
The two Ghost Crows ahead glanced back. Seemingly realizing they couldn't make a clean getaway, one of them immediately stopped and turned to look in a certain direction.
As one piece of the Ghost Crow's puzzle, it also had a basic sense of the source and could detect its approximate location.
"Hmm?"
Seeing the Ghost Crow blocking his way in his own likeness, Jiang Li initially paid it no mind. He merely intended to kick it aside first and deal with it afterward.
But the next moment, the Ghost Crow opened its mouth. Almost its entire head split apart to either side and peeled away, revealing the corpse inside.
It was the corpse of a middle-aged man wearing a blue cloth shirt. At that moment, it stiffly raised its head.
Its eyes were covered in gray-green mold, with faint signs that they were even beginning to fall out. Its two exposed arms and face were covered in large patches of dark purple livor mortis.
With a plop,
Something fell from its body, still connected to its hand by a strand of viscous corpse fluid.
It was a deformed black-and-yellow fingernail, which seemed to have fallen off because the entire corpse had rotted so severely.
Seeing this, Jiang Li frowned.
It looks like this Ghost Crow intends to fight me to the bitter end, deliberately exposing the ghost inside its body so it can attack me.
But I'm only walking bent over in the cave. Can that trigger the ghost's killing pattern too?
Suddenly, he recalled the deduction he had made outside the cave at the very beginning.
One of the ghost's killing patterns was to attack people who moved in front of it.
He had mistakenly thought this was the killing pattern of the Corpse-Dragging Ghost in the cave, but now it seemed that the Corpse-Dragging Ghost had merely inherited it while dragging corpses.
The ghost before him was the true owner of that killing pattern.
Although he had remembered the killing pattern, Jiang Li still did not stop. Instead, he closed in on the ghost even faster.
Perhaps I can use the Ghost Hand and the Person-Hiding Ghost's supernatural power to evade the attack before the ghost launches it.
Let's try.
The instant he reached the rotting fierce ghost, Jiang Li's body vanished again.
At the same time, a deathly pale hand reached out of the ground, seized the ghost's ankle, and used an uncanny force to drag it downward.
The Rotting Ghost's lower body abruptly sank into the cracks in the stone beneath it. Corpse fluid flowed, making a slimy, wet sound.
Although it had failed to drag the ghost directly underground, the Ghost Hand still managed to restrain it somewhat.
But Jiang Li's figure also gradually reappeared, his complexion looking rather ashen.
It seems my attempt to evade the attack failed. Looks like I'll have to use the Ghost Crow's restart once.
A deathly pallor gradually spread across his face, while the skin on his body rapidly festered and began to ooze corpse fluid.
Caw-
A raspy crow's cry rang out.
Jiang Li's condition quickly returned to what it had been before the attack, while the fierce ghost before him was once again wrapped inside the Ghost Crow.
