Power Progression

The following records Rog’s acquisition of Sovereign status and subsequent fusion of Sovereign Powers.

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Light Sovereign 156 157 Kills Hermela, the Sangqiu Sovereign, and refines her Light Sovereign Spark with his Light Divine Clone. Gains Mid-level Sovereign strength and Sovereign Willpower.
Two-element fused Sovereign 157 158 Kills Lianhuo and refines his Lower Death Sovereign Spark. Soul Mutation allows Rog to fuse Light and Death Sovereign Powers, producing power and soul force ten times stronger than ordinary Sovereign Power.
Three-element fused Sovereign 160 Kills Hurley and refines his Lightning Sovereign Spark. His three-element fusion produces purplish-gold power approximately one hundred times stronger than ordinary Sovereign Power, alongside another increase in Willpower.
Hongmeng Body; Sovereign clones dissolved 215 Dissolves all three Sovereign Divine Clones and their Sparks with Hongmeng Spiritual Energy. Unites his souls and completes a body capable of controlling the surrounding world without Willpower.

Nature and Ascension

Sovereigns were originally gods who obtained and refined Sovereign Sparks. Most acquired their positions early in the world’s history, when opportunity, luck, and strength determined who could secure a Spark. Becoming a Sovereign does not require reaching Paragon in the laws 142 152.

Refining a Sovereign Spark

  • Process: The recipient claims the Spark with blood and refines it through a corresponding Divine Clone. During Rog’s ascension, liquefied Sovereign Power gathers around him and the Spark enters his forehead 156.
  • Speed: Refinement is extremely rapid. Other Sovereigns can notice the event yet have no time to prevent its completion 160.
  • Fixed rank: Rog warns Linley that refining a Lower Earth Sovereign Spark would make him a Lower Sovereign of Earth forever 196.
  • Continued cultivation: Sovereigns can still improve their understanding and fusion of profound mysteries. Beirut’s progress accelerates after he gains access to the power of faith 152.
  • Multiple clones: Additional Sovereign clones grant additional portions of Willpower. Fusing their Sovereign Powers is a separate capability requiring Soul Mutation, as demonstrated by Rog 157.

Sovereigns and Paragons

Paragon describes mastery of a set of laws or edicts, rather than possession of a Sovereign Spark. Most Sovereigns are not Paragons; among the seven Fate Sovereigns, only the strongest, Orloff, has reached that level 112 122.

  • Combat superiority: Even Beirut, a Lower Sovereign, possesses Willpower more than ten thousand times stronger than a Paragon High-God’s and can kill one with a casual face-to-face attack 163.
  • Respect for achievement: Sovereigns admire Paragons because their attainment depends on their own cultivation rather than acquiring a Spark 118 142.
  • Negotiated service: A Paragon can refuse an emissary position while agreeing to perform specific tasks for a Sovereign 112.

Hierarchy

Rank or distinction Documented characteristics Examples
Lower Sovereign The lowest documented Sovereign rank, but still overwhelmingly stronger than a Paragon High-God 163. Beirut; Lianhuo; the Four Divine Beast Sovereigns 149 157 163.
Mid-level Sovereign A Mid-level Sovereign is stated to be one hundred times stronger than a Lower Sovereign. The difference lies in the Willpower carried by their Sparks, not the quality of Sovereign Power available to them 157 158. Hermela, Snowmist Sovereign, Ku Shi, and Zijing 138 149 157.
Upper-tier Sovereign / Sovereign ruler The upper rank is called “Highgod Sovereign” in Teresia’s explanation. Ruling figures include the leaders of elemental and rule lineages 84 86 205. Hurley, Augusta, and the Four Rules Sovereigns 86 160.
Four Rules Sovereigns Historically the strongest group and the joint enforcers of order among Sovereigns 136 160 161. Orloff, Uhtred, Lilith, and the Sovereign of Life 161.
Paragon Sovereign A Sovereign who has also reached Paragon. This is a cultivation distinction rather than a separate Spark rank 122 160. Orloff and Rog 122 158.

Rank alone does not determine the outcome of every battle. Extra Sovereign clones, profound-mystery mastery, innate abilities, powerful bodies, and Overgod Artifacts can substantially alter a Sovereign’s strength 149 157 193.

Abilities and Skills

Sovereign Willpower

Willpower is the central source of a Sovereign’s overwhelming authority over gods.

  • Remote killing: Ordinary gods can be killed with a thought from hundreds of millions of miles away. A Paragon’s own Willpower prevents this immediate long-distance execution, but does not make them a match for a Sovereign nearby 163.
  • Enhancement of other clones: A Sovereign’s non-Sovereign Divine Clones receive Willpower roughly equivalent to eighty percent of a Paragon High-God’s 157 162.
  • Artifact empowerment: Sovereigns can place a portion of their Willpower into Sovereign Artifacts 35 70.
  • Intimidating presence: Even Uhtred’s projected Energy Avatar produces pressure that leaves assembled gods struggling to breathe 84.

Sovereign Power

Also called Sovereign’s Might, this energy functions as both divine power and soul force 53.

  • Supply: A Sovereign Spark grants access to the associated Elemental Sea. Outside their universe, Sovereigns lose that connection 200.
  • Soul power: After Rog becomes a Sovereign, soul power formed from Sovereign Power replaces his previous soul power 158.
  • Grants to followers: Sovereigns distribute stored drops to emissaries, descendants, and other agents 112 131 166.
  • Control: Unlike Sovereigns, Paragons, and exceptional soul mutators, ordinary gods cannot completely control Sovereign’s Might; it leaks away during use 53 197.

For gods, a single drop can overturn a battle. Nuoti’s mismatched Destruction Sovereign Power increases his strength a hundredfold, temporarily raising him from a top-tier Six-Star Fiend to a fighter comparable to an Asura Prefect 29.

Divine Sense and Projections

  • Plane-wide perception: A Sovereign’s divine sense can cover an entire plane, allowing Sovereigns to communicate without gathering physically 142.
  • Energy Avatars: Sovereigns can gather Sovereign Power into enormous faces to speak, issue commands, or recruit emissaries 84 118 151.
  • Cross-planar communication: Consciousness projections allow communication in other planes 152.
  • Travel limits: Physical travel between planes normally requires a teleportation array or passage through Spatial Turbulence. Rog’s unexplained movements between planes therefore alarm the other Sovereigns 157.

Power of Faith

Sovereigns can use the power of faith to assist their cultivation of fused profound mysteries 122 152.

  • Beirut’s Wind-law comprehension rapidly catches up with his previously superior Darkness-law comprehension after his ascension 152.
  • This advantage does not guarantee Paragon attainment; most Sovereigns still fall short of it 122 142.

Divine Plane Creation

Creating Divine Planes is a Sovereign ability that can also deepen the creator’s understanding of the laws 152 173.

  • Rog’s Light Sovereign Clone gathers Sovereign’s Might in the Void for several hundred years before creating the Light God Plane 173.
  • He forms its sun, moon, land, mountains, and seas, but leaves the completed plane without life 173.
  • During creation, he gains insight into Holiness and Regeneration and achieves a fusion of five Light profound mysteries 173.

Sovereign Artifacts

Sovereign Artifacts derive their exceptional strength from prolonged nurturing with Sovereign’s Might and the inclusion of a Sovereign’s Willpower 35.

Type Function Documented example
Offensive Increases attacking power; may be tailored to a favored emissary’s fighting style 81. Gunther’s specially nurtured gauntlet; Kingsley’s Profound Spirit Light Sword 81 166.
Material Defense Protects against physical attacks, allowing even a weaker god to survive vastly stronger material strikes 74. Haidisi’s Purple Wisteria Armor 112.
Soul Defense Shields the soul; damage to the artifact can leave exploitable gaps in its protection 101. Ice Crystal Crown 101 103.
  • Among gods: Even a Paragon High-God cannot directly damage a Sovereign Artifact 101.
  • Among Sovereigns: These artifacts function as ordinary weapons relative to their wielders’ strength and can be damaged in battle 136.
  • Compared with Overgod Artifacts: Sovereigns cannot forge Overgod Artifacts, which even the strongest Sovereigns cannot damage 136.
  • After a patron’s death: The Four Divine Beasts’ former emissaries retain their artifacts, but hide because those treasures attract other experts 149.

Emissaries and Authority

Sovereign’s Emissaries

Emissaries act as a Sovereign’s subordinates and receive a Sovereign Artifact, often chosen to complement their strengths or cover a weakness 54 84 172.

  • Limited positions: Commanders greatly outnumber available emissary appointments. Some qualified experts seek a position unsuccessfully, while others reject service to preserve their freedom 54 177.
  • Rewards: Grants can include Sovereign’s Might and a Sovereign Medallion representing the patron’s identity 166.
  • Duties: Emissaries handle matters Sovereigns cannot personally intervene in, including competition for Overgod Tokens in Material Planes 112.
  • Refusal: A Sovereign cannot target a god merely for declining an emissary appointment. Uhtred accepts Rog’s refusal without retaliation 84.
  • Protection is not unconditional: Saimengte’s patron accepts that his emissary brought death upon himself by provoking Rog, rather than avenging him 118.

Territories, Armies, and Factions

  • Territorial control: The seven Lightning Sovereigns hold territories according to their strength. As Lightning Element Sovereign, Rog governs ninety percent of the plane’s seas and the Crimson Cloud Continent 170.
  • Standing armies: Rog inherits the Crimson Shadow Army and retains its commander, Lambert 170.
  • Proxy conflicts: Sovereigns settle some minor disputes through expeditions to unusual planes, with gods fighting for rewards supplied by their patrons 40.
  • Planar Warfare: Some Sovereigns closely manage their forces in pursuit of ten consecutive Planar Battlefield victories; most pay comparatively little attention to their armies 162.
  • Sovereign allegiance: Weaker Sovereigns seek protection under stronger ones, even across elemental lineages. All six other Lightning Sovereigns eventually join Rog’s faction 191.

Limits and Vulnerabilities

Mortality and Sovereign Law

Sovereigns can be killed, and surviving members of the same lineage sense a Sovereign’s death 146 158.

The Four Rules Sovereigns establish a peace code forbidding Sovereigns from fighting and killing one another without a grievance. This order follows an ancient period of warfare in which many Sovereigns died 160 161.

  • Overgod Missions: Such contests remain dangerous exceptions to ordinary peace. All six early missions are completed by Sovereigns, and Sovereigns die during the competition 138.
  • Enforcement depends on strength: After Rog kills three Sovereigns, Orloff negotiates his cooperation rather than punishing him; Rog’s power and unexplained methods place him beyond their reliable control 160 161.

Dependence on Their Universe

Sovereign authority is not fully portable between universes.

  • Willpower loss: In the universe beyond Cloudheart Continent, Orloff and Teresia lose both Sovereign and Paragon Willpower 200.
  • Reduced strength: Without that enhancement, they are comparable to Highgods carrying a large reserve of Sovereign’s Might 200.
  • Supply restriction: Their Sparks no longer connect to an Elemental Sea, though they can replenish energy by drawing on the surrounding world with their souls 200.
  • Void vulnerability: Without Willpower’s enhancement, Hurley’s Soul Defense Sovereign Artifact becomes a fragile membrane of Sovereign Power, which Rog pierces with fused soul attacks 160.

Major Historical Developments

Fall of the Four Divine Beasts

The Four Divine Beast Sovereigns are individually Lower Sovereigns, but their combined Innate Divine Abilities produce an attack that even other Sovereigns fear to confront directly 149.

Their deaths remove the protection that had shielded their descendants from retaliation. The Eight Great Clans attack, former emissaries disappear, and Beirut uses rumors of treasures in the Yulan Plane to attract attention and seek support against Augusta 148 149 152.

Rog’s Rise

Rog’s successive killings of Hermela, Lianhuo, and Hurley transform him from a Paragon High-God into an unprecedented three-element fused Sovereign 156 157 160.

His rise breaks the Four Rules Sovereigns’ longstanding dominance. Rather than confront his unknown methods, they secure his promise to preserve order, while weaker Sovereigns begin seeking his protection 160 161 191.

Beyond Sovereign Status

Rog ultimately dissolves his Sovereign Sparks and clones to complete his Hongmeng Body. His resulting control over the world no longer depends on Willpower, marking a departure from the Spark-based power that defines Sovereigns 215.
