"Ugh...!"

Vast energy surged through his body, and Tang Wulin could not help letting out a pained groan.

He could feel the energy released from the Golden Dragon King's seal rapidly merging into his body, strengthening his physical power and resilience.

But in exchange, he was suffering unbearable pain.

The Golden Dragon King Essence rampaged through his body, crashing about relentlessly and causing his entire body to radiate dazzling golden light.

Tang Wulin gritted his teeth. His eyes reddened, his pupils narrowing into slits as he glared viciously at the Soul Emperor not far away.

"What is this...?"

As the Soul Emperor met his gaze, the fear that had been rising from the depths of his heart suddenly intensified. For a moment, he could not even maintain his soul skill.

He was an independent soul master whose first ring had been white, and the only reason he had reached his current level was clearly because of his Martial Soul.

His Martial Soul was the Black Fire Earth Dragon, a type of Sub-Dragon.

Though its quality was nowhere near that of a true Dragon Martial Soul, and it was even vastly inferior to the White Tiger Martial Soul, it still easily surpassed most other Martial Souls.

Yet at this very moment, the Martial Soul that had helped him so many times was holding him back. Even if only a tiny fraction of the Dragon God Incarnation's terrifying pressure was revealed, it was still a terror that a sub-dragon lizard like him could not face directly.

His reason clearly told him that this was merely a brat who had not even reached the cultivation of a Soul Grandmaster, yet his body completely refused to obey his brain. He could not move at all.

"Boss!"

The Agility Attack Type Soul King nearby saw that his leader had inexplicably stopped in place and immediately became frantic.

At such a critical moment, what was he doing?!

Following the Soul Emperor's gaze, he saw Tang Wulin glaring furiously.

"So this brat is behind it!"

He swiftly rushed forward and arrived before Tang Wulin.

He was only a one-ring brat. No matter what sinister method he had used to restrain the boss, there was no way he could withstand an attack from a Soul King like him.

Yet the situation once again developed beyond his expectations.

A golden soul ring suddenly rose around Tang Wulin. The next second, the soul ring erupted with golden light!

Golden dragon scales began to emerge all over Tang Wulin's body. Then, he swung his dragon claw with all his strength, colliding with the Soul King's attack.

With a whoosh, Tang Wulin was sent flying backward. Yet the Soul King also felt his hand ache fiercely from that monstrous force, leaving him unable to pursue for the moment.

He was utterly shocked. Even a Soul Ancestor might not possess power of this level.

What had happened to this brat?!

In truth, Tang Wulin's current strength was naturally not yet enough to rival a Soul Ancestor.

The energy contained within the Second Seal was indeed immense, but with only half a seal remaining, it was not enough to elevate his strength straight to the Soul Ancestor level.

The reason he had achieved this miraculous feat was that the energy within his body was currently running wild. With nowhere to vent that enormous power, he happened to unleash an extraordinary strike when the Soul King came forward to attack him.

But this was already his limit. Under the torment of immense pain, let alone continuing to fight, he was using all his strength just to remain conscious.

The pain was simply too intense. He felt as though every cell in his body was wailing, screaming that it could no longer endure.

If Tang Wulin's willpower had not been so strong, and if he had not experienced the pain of absorbing the First Seal not long ago, he might already have clawed open his own throat and killed himself.

Just as he struggled desperately in that ocean of pain, a gentle voice that felt somewhat familiar sounded beside his ear.

"Take a deep breath, child. Spread the energy within your body throughout your entire body, and let it absorb this energy as thoroughly as possible."

At the same time, a vast Light Aura entered Tang Wulin's body, helping him suppress the rampaging energy within him.

Under the influence of this Power of Light, not only was Tang Wulin's pain greatly reduced and his body rapidly recovering, but even the flow of the Golden Dragon King Essence that was damaging his body slowed down.

"Mmph..."

As the pressure abruptly lessened, Tang Wulin's body relaxed, and he lost consciousness.

Although he had passed out, he had already contributed enough.

The enemy's strongest Soul Emperor had been intimidated for several seconds, allowing He Caitou to go Full Firepower once more and suppress the entire battlefield.

And by the time the Soul Emperor regained his senses and prepared to dominate the battlefield again, Shrek's reinforcements had arrived.

"Stop right there!"

Watching the Soul Sage powerhouse descend rapidly from the sky, the leading Soul Emperor first revealed an unwilling expression. Yet a moment later, he came to terms with it.

This outcome had been inevitable from the start. He simply had not expected that he would fail to eliminate even a single target.

Shrek's students truly lived up to their reputation.

Shrek's reinforcements descended from the sky one after another, surrounding everyone present.

Seeing that there was no longer any chance of success, the assassins raised their hands one after another and chose to surrender without resistance.

After one of Shrek's personnel checked Tang Wulin's body, he picked him up and prepared to take him away.

At that moment, he felt someone tugging on his clothes.

When he turned around, Huo Yutong was looking at him with unease. Her eyes were filled with anxiety and fear.

"Wulin... Is the student you're holding all right? He... he's someone very important to me. Please, you have to heal him!"

The instant she had seen Tang Wulin sent flying by the Soul King's strike, she had felt her entire heart twitch. The incomparable terror had nearly made it impossible for her to maintain Spiritual Detection.

That had been a full-force attack from a Soul King. Even if he had been injured, there was no way a one-ring soul master could withstand it.

Tang Wulin's failure to get back up afterward had pushed her worries to their peak. Her thoughts were now a complete mess, and she could not remain calm at all.

She had spent her entire life enduring the contemptuous stares of those around her. In more than ten years of her life, aside from her mother, no one had ever treated her so well.

He was her first friend and the turning point of her fate. Aside from Huo Yun'er, he was the most important person in her heart. The thought that something might have happened to him made breathing feel difficult.

Fortunately, the person holding Tang Wulin smiled at her and said:

"Don't worry, he's fine. He only fainted from exhaustion. If anything, his physical condition is unbelievably good."

Upon hearing those words, Huo Yutong felt all strength leave her body.

Thank goodness, he was all right.

Thank goodness.

"That's wonderful..."

Huo Yutong's entire body went limp, and she fainted as well.

In order to save Tang Wulin, she had disregarded the cost and used Purple Demon Eyes in conjunction with a full-force Soul Impact against the Soul Emperor among the assassins, suffering considerable backlash.

The only reason she had remained conscious until now was because her worry for Tang Wulin and determination to protect him had sustained her.

Now that she knew Tang Wulin was all right, the relieved Huo Yutong could no longer maintain consciousness and fell unconscious just like that.

The Shrek personnel responsible for the reinforcements, however, was dumbfounded.

He looked left, then right, and finally sighed. He picked Huo Yutong up from the ground as well and hurried toward the academy.

And so, Tang Wulin and Huo Yutong's long and turbulent Opening Festival came to an end.

Beneath the night sky, the two of them were held in the same pair of arms, their sleeping faces incomparably peaceful.

Author's Note

I noticed that in Douluo Dalu 2, Lao Huo's Ultimate Ice had a stronger suppressive effect on Ice Attribute Martial Souls than Tang Wulin's suppression of Dragon Martial Souls in Douluo Dalu 3.

Setting aside everything else, Lao Huo Instantly Killing the Five Rings Ling Luochen with a single glance while at Two Rings was simply too eye-catching. Later, he also had a feat of Instantly Killing a top-tier Soul Ancestor with one glance.

So it is perfectly reasonable to slightly strengthen Wulin's Bloodline Suppression in this adapted version, right? (not really)

Also, congratulations to Little Lady Huo for her favorability toward Tang Wulin surpassing the eighty mark and developing feelings beyond friendship.

Starting next chapter, the way the two interact will change.
