Overview

A Martial Soul is the innate power manifested by a Soul Master. Its nature strongly affects the wielder's combat style, Soul Power capacity, available soul skills, and long-term potential. Powerful Martial Souls can store a portion of their user's Soul Power; stronger Martial Souls generally store more. 417

Martial Souls can take forms associated with beasts, plants, tools, bodily traits, elements, or more unusual powers. Their apparent form does not strictly determine a Soul Master's combat classification; fighting style is the deciding factor. 18 19 42

Awakening

Martial Souls are awakened through a Martial Soul Awakening ceremony, commonly performed when a child reaches six years old. The awakening may manifest a Martial Soul, Soul Rings, immense power, or—in rare cases—an ability whose exact nature cannot immediately be identified. 624

• Tang Xuanxi awakened a nine-colored Dragon God Bloodline Martial Soul and a Soul Ring; her strength immediately rose near the First Rank God level. 624
• Tang Yiting manifested golden light and a black-and-white Soul Ring, but his Martial Soul could not be identified. 624

Classification

Soul Masters are classified primarily by how they fight rather than solely by their Martial Soul's form. 18

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings accompany Martial Souls and grant Soul Skills. Their colors normally follow white, yellow, purple, black, and red, though unusual rings such as Tang Wulin's golden and green-gold rings exist. 236

• A soul skill may enhance the user directly, create attacks, control elements, summon entities, or provide defensive and support effects.
• Soul Rings can be obtained from soul beasts or through Soul Spirits. The Water-Fire Dragon Kings became Tang Wulin's Soul Spirits and supplied his fourth and fifth Soul Rings. 255
• Soul Ring configurations can reveal a Martial Soul's unusual development. Tang Wulin's Bluesilver Emperor was mistaken for a second Martial Soul because even its lowest rings were ten-thousand-year level. 317

Martial Soul Possession

Martial Soul Possession manifests a Martial Soul's traits upon its user, often changing their body, equipment, or combat capabilities.

Martial Soul quality determines how effectively Soul Power can be used and how much Soul Power the Martial Soul itself can store. 417

Tang Wulin's Bluesilver Grass absorbed Life Force from the Golden Ancient Tree during Martial Soul Fusion and evolved into the Bluesilver Emperor. 50 55
