No Need X Threat X Hunter Exam
The Grey Elder stared at him for a couple of moments, then suddenly chuckled.
"You brat... you never intended to talk in the first place."
"They talked."
Jiang Ye stood up.
"I'm not satisfied with the conditions you offered, so I've changed them."
He took a step back.
The Divine Dog: Totality stepped out from the side, its black and white fangs gleaming coldly in the shadows.
"My condition now is— District 13 does not need elders."
Grey Elder's pupils suddenly contracted.
The Divine Dog: Totality's mouth closed.
Jiang Ye withdrew his hand, turned around, and walked out of the screen.
The screen began to close from the dome, like an umbrella closing, the shadows receding to the ground, revealing the light of day outside.
A number of people were standing outside the waste disposal site.
There were members of the Rust Remains Alliance, gang members brought by Grey Elder, and refugees who had sneaked over from the nearby junkyard to check things out.
When they saw the screen retract, the first thing they saw was a floor littered with corpses.
The men brought by the Grey Elder lay scattered on the ground, their dark red blood seeping into the gravel and staining the entire area a deep brown.
Then they saw Jiang Ye.
Jiang Ye stepped out of the screen, followed by five Shikigami.
Divine Dog: Totality walked on the left, Toad on the right, Rabbit Escape's clones scattered around, Nue hovered above their heads, and Max Elephant was at the very back. The ground trembled with every step they took.
He was holding a head in his hand.
The Grey Elder's head.
Jiang Ye stood in the center of the scrap yard and lifted up the head of the Grey Elder.
"The elder of District 13 is dead."
His voice wasn't loud, but everyone present heard it.
"The Rust Remains Alliance still exists."
He threw the Grey Elder's head at his feet and dusted off his hands.
"Those who want to pay tribute, go to the Rust Remains Alliance. Those who want trouble, also go to the Rust Remains Alliance."
But I'm leaving now.
He tilted his head and looked in the direction of the Iron Wall and the Gray Beak.
Iron Wall stood in the crowd, blood still dripping from his rough face, his mouth agape, unsure of what to say.
Jiang Ye nodded at him.
"The affairs of the Rust Remains Alliance are decided by the three of you."
"I've left you some things; use them when things get too tough."
He turned around and walked north.
He took two steps, then stopped.
"Oh, right."
He turned his head away.
"Tell the Council of Elders."
"If I heard that the Rust Remains Alliance has been attacked..."
"I'll be right back."
"Take a few heads with you when you come back, and see how many there are enough for me to pick."
He stepped into the shadows of the waste disposal area.
The figure sank down and disappeared.
The entire room remained silent for a while.
The Iron Wall was the first to move.
He walked to the Grey Elder's head, bent down, picked it up, and held it in his hand.
"Rust Remains Alliance!"
He yelled at the top of his lungs.
"Back to camp!"
Gray Beak and Shattered Eye emerged from the crowd and began calling for people to retreat.
The crowd began to move.
On top of a toppled concrete pillar on the outskirts of the waste dump, a figure wearing a long black trench coat stood for a while.
Chrollo Lucilfer put his hands in his pockets, his dark gray eyes fixed on the direction Jiang Ye had disappeared in, and a slight smile played on his lips.
"They ran away quite decisively."
The Shalnark stood to the side, put his phone away, and tilted his head.
"Commander, hasn't he really offended the Council of Elders to the extreme?"
"Um."
Chrollo turned around and walked in the opposite direction.
That's why he dared to leave.
"He'll stay in Meteor City Council of Elders take action."
"Now that he's gone, the Council of Elders doesn't dare touch the Rust Remains Alliance."
The Shalnark followed, thought for a moment, and then grinned.
"Because the Rust Remains Alliance is the only bait that can lure him out."
"Right."
Chrollo walked slowly, the hem of his trench coat sweeping across the gravel ground.
"A twelve-year-old Nen user killed an elder and ran away. The Council of Elders couldn't find him, nor did they dare to press him too hard."
"Because if pushed too far, he might actually come back."
The Shalnark twirled his phone around.
Where will he go?
Chrollo did not answer.
He simply tilted his head and glanced in the direction of the old industrial area to the north.
"You guess."
On the northern boundary of Meteor City, Jiang Ye emerged from the shadow of an abandoned drainage ditch and dusted himself off.
He took out the spiral-patterned ring from the Shadow Space and glanced at it in the dim light of the sky.
Greed Island.
He put the ring back and walked out of Meteor City.
Behind them lay six thousand square kilometers of garbage and wasteland.
Before him lay a world of unknown possibilities.
Let's take it one step at a time.
He had just taken a step when his shadow suddenly bulged.
The Max Elephant's silhouette shifted in the shadows, its trunk twitched, and Jiang Ye's temple throbbed.
He glanced down at his shadow; the silhouettes of five Shikigami lay quietly in the depths.
"Don't rush."
He said it softly.
"Once you get there, there will be plenty of places for you to come out and get some fresh air."
He looked up at the gray horizon in the distance.
There was a railway track there, rusted red, but still in use.
The railway tracks lead outside Meteor City.
Jiang Ye turned up the collar of his coat and walked towards the railway tracks.
After walking a dozen steps, he suddenly stopped and tilted his head.
"You've been following me for so long, come out now."
There was a two-second silence in the scrap metal pile behind the drainage ditch.
Then a dark figure emerged from the shadows.
Illumi Zoldyck Family stood ten meters away, his completely black eyes calmly watching him.
How did you find me?
You controlled your anger very well.
Jiang Ye turned around and put his hands back in his pockets.
But you stepped on my shadow.
Illumi glanced down at her feet.
His shoe sole was indeed pressing against the edge of a dark shadow.
"Interesting."
He looked up.
"You're leaving."
"Um."
Where to go?
"You guess."
Illumi tilted her head.
"The Zoldyck Family tunnels work even outside Meteor City."
Jiang Ye looked at him, and the corners of his mouth curved slightly.
"So you're here to see me off?"
I'm here to tell you something.
Illumi pulled a folded piece of paper from inside her collar and handed it to her.
"The patriarch asked me to pass this on."
Jiang Ye took it, unfolded it, and glanced at it.
There was only one line of text on the paper, written in vigorous handwriting.
"Hunter Exam, someone's waiting for you."
Jiang Ye folded the paper and put it into the Shadow Space.
"Who?"
You'll see when you get there.
Illumi turned and took two steps, then paused.
"Oh, right."
He turned his head to the side, revealing half of his pale profile.
"The Council of Elders already knows about your killing of the elder."
"But the Ten Dons's side is holding back and hasn't moved."
Jiang Ye raised an eyebrow.
"Why?"
"Because someone spoke up for you."
Illumi's voice was very faint.
"Who?"
Illumi didn't answer, but stepped into the shadows of the scrap heap, and her figure quickly disappeared.
Jiang Ye stood still, took out the paper again, and looked at it once more.
Someone is waiting for me.
He put the paper away, looked up at the direction the railway tracks stretched out, and a slow smile spread across his face.
"Then let's go see who's so eager to see me."
He stepped onto the railway tracks.
His shadow stretched into a thin, dark line on the rusty red rails, growing longer and farther as he walked.
In the council chamber of Meteor City Council of Elders, eleven of the twelve chairs were empty.
In the only chair where people were sitting, an elderly man with white hair and a white beard threw a report on the table.
"The elder of District 13 is dead."
The killer escaped.
What do you mean?
Across the table, from the eleven empty seats, different voices of discussion emanated from the loudspeakers.
"Chase."
"Don't chase."
"The Rust Remains Alliance must not be touched."
The old man tapped on the table.
"Then it's settled."
"Keep the Rust Remains Alliance, but that brat... let him get away."
"Run as far as possible."
"The farther he runs, the safer the Rust Remains Alliance will be."
"The safer the Rust Remains Alliance is, the less likely he is to return."
"As long as he doesn't come back, District 13 will still be in our hands."
He leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling.
"A twelve-year-old brat killed an elder, and we still have to watch over his house."
"What the hell is this?"
At the end of the railway tracks, Jiang Ye jumped off the last rusted and broken rail, landing on the ground outside Meteor City.
He glanced down at his shadow.
The outline of the Max Elephant bulged again.
"Arrive."
He looked up at the hazy outline of the city in the distance.
"Hunter Exam, here I come!"
