He was Fu Yuhe's only weakness.
Fu Cheng died by accident during the kidnapping.
From then on, Fu Yuhe had no family left, and the only softness in his heart was gone. He turned completely dark. Never one to let a slight go unanswered, he refused to let those people off easily. He took revenge on them one by one, ruthless and unscrupulous in his determination to make them taste pain.
By the end, Fu Yuhe appeared to have achieved success and fame, but there was no one left by his side.
The protagonist, Fu Yuhe, was Shen Yi's target. Changing the protagonist's dark ending was Shen Yi's final task as a "system." Once he completed it, he could finally cease to be a "system."
A system's first principle was to follow orders, but the moment a system gained self-awareness, that principle began to crumble. He had acquired a self and an id.
Shen Yi was one of the systems that had awakened to self-awareness. This was a transformation from system to human.
No one named Shen Yi had appeared in the original plot, but now that he had entered the world, he had a role in its storyline.
In the plot, he was a high school classmate of the protagonist's younger brother, Fu Cheng. Because he had bullied Fu Cheng, his older brother, Fu Yuhe, had made him suffer badly.
But he had only just transferred in, and everything was still at the beginning.
The phone in his desk compartment vibrated a few times, and Shen Yi reached inside to get it.
Shen Yi casually ruffled his hair, which had been mussed by the wind. His long, slender fingers slipped through the black strands in a relaxed, lazy motion. With his other hand, he took out his phone and unlocked it. There were two messages.
[Xu Fanchao: Bro, I brought that kid from your class to the bathroom. When class starts, tell the teacher he can't make it, so he can stay here a while.]
[Xu Fanchao: Tsk, this kid doesn't even know how to smoke. What a loser.]
Shen Yi had only recently transferred in and joined this "delinquent gang," but he was already right at home among them because he was generous, had money, and liked treating people.
It seemed that quite a few schools had a group of people this bored. They cared about appearances and liked playing the boss, as though leading a bunch of underlings around was something impressive and a great source of accomplishment.
But in truth, they were just a bunch of scumbags.
That kid... who was he?
Shen Yi looked at the messages on his phone and thought for a moment.
System: [Fu Yuhe's younger brother is in your class.]
Bang-
Someone kicked the door to the boys' bathroom, producing a tremendous bang. The people inside fell silent for a moment. The door opened, revealing a tall, slender figure standing in the doorway.
The plain, ordinary school uniform looked good on him. He had broad shoulders and long legs. It was still hot, so everyone at school was wearing the summer uniform, and the person at the door was no exception. The short sleeves looked cool and breezy on him.
Shen Yi looked at the group in the bathroom. At a glance, there were five people in all. One of them, a guy with a buzz cut, wore an arrogant expression, but his tone was familiar when he spoke to Shen Yi. "Damn, are you trying to get yourself killed, making that much noise?"
This was Xu Fanchao, the one who had just messaged Shen Yi.
Shen Yi's gaze settled on the boy in the middle, who had his head lowered. He couldn't see his expression clearly, but his bearing was different from the others'. Shen Yi could tell at a glance that he was Fu Cheng.
The pitiful little white flower of a younger brother.
"Sorry to interrupt." Shen Yi lifted the corners of his lips. His handsome face lost its sharp edge, making him look harmless. "But..."
He walked forward a few steps until he was beside Fu Cheng, then casually raised a hand to his shoulder and put an arm around him with particular familiarity. Smiling brightly, he said, "He still has to do my homework for me. What are you guys doing?"
Fu Cheng knew Shen Yi. They were in the same class, and he had also seen Shen Yi hanging around with these people. So when Shen Yi approached him, his brows drew even tighter, and his tightly pressed lips turned white.
As soon as Xu Fanchao saw Fu Cheng's pale face, the displeased frown on his own face gave way to sudden understanding. He gave Shen Yi a meaningful look. "Fine. For your sake, I won't hold it against this kid."
Shen Yi kept smiling.
The others didn't stay much longer. After they left, only Shen Yi and Fu Cheng remained in the boys' bathroom. Shen Yi took his hand off Fu Cheng's shoulder.
Fu Cheng was a slender-framed boy, but he was 178 centimeters tall and not short. Even so, standing next to Shen Yi, he looked thin and pitiful.
Shen Yi's shadow fell over him, and he felt an immense pressure. Just as his nerves were pulled taut, Shen Yi turned and actually went to use the bathroom.
After the sound of running water came a flush. Then Shen Yi walked over to the sink and turned on the tap.
"What were they doing just now?"
Realizing the question was directed at him, Fu Cheng said quietly, "Nothing."
Those people had asked if he knew how to smoke, and he had said no. They had mocked him, asking what kind of man couldn't even smoke, then handed him a cigarette and said they would teach him. That was when Shen Yi kicked the door open and came in.
Shen Yi shook the water off his hands, turned, and walked closer to him. Fu Cheng was half a head shorter, so Shen Yi bent slightly and leaned toward him. "You smell like smoke. Smoking is prohibited at school."
"I didn't... didn't smoke." Fu Cheng's last two words lacked conviction.
Shen Yi pinched the collar of Fu Cheng's uniform with damp fingers. Fu Cheng instinctively tried to pull back, but couldn't get away. The cool fingers touched the skin near his collarbone, the sensation distinct.
Fu Cheng swallowed.
It was like a dull blade hanging over his head, neither falling nor withdrawing. Fortunately, Shen Yi soon moved his hand away. The young man held his beautiful, almost artistic hand out in front of him. "Cigarette ash. Your clothes got burned."
Fu Cheng hurriedly looked down at a small, inconspicuous black spot on his collar. It must have been burned by a spark from the cigarette just now. He pressed his lips together.
The class bell rang, its clear sound echoing across the campus. The young man in front of him straightened up. "Let's go."
