| Alias(es) | Bone King — a nickname earned through his performance in a sea battle; he would have preferred “Mechanic” 50. |
| Species/Race | Human from Earth 8 123. |
| Gender | Male |
| Affiliation | Final Bone Mad Machines; Ruby Base; a leading figure associated with the First Sunrise Republic 408 496 714. |
| Occupation/Role | Former machinery-factory employee; spatial spellcaster practicing simulated necromancy; industrial organizer and military leader 1 7 261 520. |
| Status | Alive; passes through a planar barrier while investigating a message at the Rift Tribe’s formation 820. |
| First Appearance | Chapter 1, “Transmigration” 1. |
Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary human | 1 | A machinery-factory employee accompanying a shipment of purchased equipment. |
| Novice necromancer | 4 | Galio sacrifices his magical knowledge and power through the Spirit Awakening Technique, awakening Su Ming and imparting basic magical knowledge. |
| Spatial affinity identified | 7 | His apparent undead magic is discovered to be simulated through the space element. This explains his ability to control a skeleton across the planar boundary. |
| Increased power; mid-tier undead within reach | 25 65 | Rapid growth after his exceptionally high-grade awakening makes a contract with the weakened Miao Xin possible. |
| Concept Element consciously perceived | 122 | During Miao Xin’s crisis, he recognizes the nature of his power and forces her damaged undead marks back together. |
| Intermediate mage | 144 148 | Elemental Resonance beneath Brown Gold Island greatly increases his magic-power intensity. Zijin confirms his intermediate-mage level after roughly three months of growth. |
| Deathly Word breakthrough | 173 | Grief over Si Ran’s death makes Deathly Word spells easier to form. He uses Grey Thoughts Exhaust the Heart to disrupt Zijin’s perception during sparring. |
| Magister | 294 | His magic power breaks its limits during the battle with the Fate Manipulator. Summoning of All Things gains qualitatively deeper interference with space, though his theory and practical training lag behind his rank. |
| Mental reserves expanded by Whispers of the Stars | 405 408 | Gradual exposure increases his mental-power capacity. Recovery improves more slowly, so completely replenishing his enlarged reserves takes longer. |
| Spatial interference field stabilized | 687 | Learns from Prism Shadow’s attacks during combat and develops a field capable of blocking the chaotic spatial blades. |
| Beyond Magister; exact rank unstated | 705 | His magic is extremely potent but unevenly developed. He avoids further conventional cultivation because increasing his power would sharply raise the risk of spatial abilities running out of control. |
Zijin distinguishes capacity, technique and tactics, and magic-power intensity as separate measures of a spellcaster. Her early estimate that Su Ming has potential reaching at least Upper-Rank Magister is a prediction, not a rank he has already attained 55.
Background / History
Su Ming grew up in an ordinary county town on Earth. His father was a worker, and his mother supported the family through odd jobs. After entering factory work, he helped improve their living conditions and planned to take them to the seaside during the factory’s slow season 30.
Before his transmigration, he had worked at a machinery factory for only a few years. His first appearance places him in a truck accompanying old equipment purchased by the factory 1.
In the other world, Galio’s Spirit Awakening Technique made him an apparent novice necromancer. Examination subsequently revealed that he lacked affinity for the six major elements: his undead spells were instead being reproduced through spatial power. White Bone advised him to study those differences through observation, modeling, and repeated experiments 4 7.
His connection to Earth brought an immediate complication. Damage transferred to Little Spiky Head left bones containing Miao Xin’s DNA near his workplace, making him a prime suspect in her murder. He began investigating her death partly to clear his own name 24 25.
Appearance
- His skin and eye colors are somewhat rare by the standards of the other world, but White Bone’s seventeen examinations initially reveal no other unusual physical characteristics 8.
- At the factory, he favors camouflage clothing because its many pockets hold tools, nuts, and other small objects; people sometimes mistake him for a security guard 48.
- His later field equipment includes a tactical vest, a backpack, and red crystal armor 168 241 681.
Personality
Su Ming approaches magic as an engineering problem. He experiments with formulas, records equipment performance, and adapts Earth’s weapons principles rather than accepting established magical practice as the only solution. He also recognizes that advanced equipment is useless without materials, maintenance, and an adequate production system 7 32 46 198 378.
He generally keeps his emotions separate from decisions, but sustained pressure can exhaust him. Homesickness persists even when he remembers his previous life as ordinary and laborious. His concern for his parents leads him to conceal his circumstances behind a story about a business trip and a broken phone 30 31 126 128.
His principles remain rooted in Earth’s respect for life and its rules. He initially objects to handling human remains and later considers his lawful, good alignment consistent with how he has lived. Nevertheless, he becomes capable of calculated retaliation, killing Bennyfinn and crushing his lingering soul 6 140 168.
He is cautious rather than interested in proving personal bravery. He values distance, preparation, and exploiting weaknesses, openly explaining his tactical discipline as fear of dying. That caution coexists with genuine enjoyment of devising weapons and tactics against stronger enemies—something Miao Xin recognizes in him 188 199 201.
Abilities & Skills
Spatial and Concept Power
Su Ming’s apparent necromancy operates through spatial power rather than ordinary dark-element affinity. During Miao Xin’s loss of control, he also directly perceives his power as the Concept Element, which can resist the destructive force tearing apart her marks 7 122.
- Cross-planar undead connection: Controls Little Spiky Head on Earth while remaining in the other world 7.
- Split attention: Can use one eye to view Earth while the other examines his immediate surroundings and documents 401.
- Recursive formations: Uses nested runic calculations to amplify his control layer by layer 144.
- Spatial interference: Develops a defensive field against chaotic spatial blades by learning from an opponent in real time 687.
- Unstable growth: Further increases in conventional mage power threaten to make his spatial abilities uncontrollable 705.
Summoning of All Things
Summoning of All Things extracts the “order” of an Earth-side object and reconstructs it from materials in the other world. Miao Xin serves as the Earth-side anchor; Su Ming’s spatial power performs the reconstruction 227.
- Material reconstruction: Reproduces medicines, equipment, weapons, and industrial machinery using suitable local resources 27 98 408.
- Synthesis Summoning: Supplies missing chemical components when corresponding molecules are unavailable, at an energy cost 27 258.
- Crystal Summoning: Records selected equipment’s sequences in a magic crystal while dismantling the originals 53.
- Data transfer: Replaces an SD card’s contents by reproducing the distribution of stored electrical charge 258.
- Compound Magic Array Form: Coordinates reconstruction through a larger formation 302.
- Large-scale applications: Transfers a turbine and generator for the Celestite Hydropower Station 408.
Documented limits:
- The normal process cannot send objects back from the other world to Earth 227.
- He cannot reconstruct elementary particles; available materials, magical level, and energy constrain what he can produce 258.
- Molecular bonding requires energy, making bulk synthesis of demanding substances impractical at earlier stages 188 258.
- Reproducing uranium dioxide transfers crystal structure but does not enrich uranium-235 or reproduce its desired nuclear composition 496.
- Large transfers impose substantial mental strain; Qiluo can help share the burden 192.
Necromancy and Undead Control
Su Ming uses undead servants for reconnaissance, labor, combat, and maintaining his connection to Earth 6 30 53.
- Damage Transfer: Redirects injury to a bound undead creature; early use damages Little Spiky Head, while later protection is bound to a zombie 24 59.
- Undead contracts: Forms a contract with the weakened Miao Xin after his magic-power intensity rises sufficiently 65.
- Corpse animation: Awakens the bodies of three girls found frozen on Silent Whisper Peak after sensing no surviving souls 299.
- Emergency servants: Creates skeleton warriors to beat out flames during the mine assassination crisis 445.
- Soul manipulation: Can extract and destroy a recently deceased person’s lingering soul 168.
Deathly Word Arts and Metamagic
Deathly Word spells let Su Ming attack specific magical and mental vulnerabilities. Their use is influenced by his emotional state; Zijin notes that he needs a somewhat bad mood to cast the series 173 210.
| Technique | Application |
|---|---|
| Grey Thoughts Exhaust the Heart | Suppresses Zijin’s Omniscient Vision, exploiting her dependence on magical perception 173. |
| Elemental Fading / Elemental Fade | Contaminates shields, breaks incoming spells, and dispels effects such as flight 173 197 199. |
| Arcane Collapse | Helps destroy an opponent’s magical defenses 199 210. |
| Wondrous Item Disjunction | Breaks an enemy’s enchanted robe and another item 210. |
| Dual Casting and Rapid Casting | Delivers three Deathly Word spells almost simultaneously, producing elemental disruption that briefly prevents enemy spellcasting 210. |
- The combined metamagic sequence also briefly leaves Su Ming unable to cast, forcing him to follow up with physical attacks 210.
Perception and Mobility
- Silent Vision: Exposes an enemy’s weaknesses during a close-range attack 131.
- Improved Psionic Vision: Detects an invisible thief 165.
- Penetrating Vision: Removes snow and mist as visual obstructions 241.
- Spatial perception: Zijin explains that some of what he “sees” is additional information perceived by the Space Element, not vision penetrating an object 713.
- Shadow Jump and Shadow Spider Silk: Provide rapid repositioning, pursuit, and evasive movement 165 173 210.
- Dark Beacon: Develops from a tracking mark into a guide for subsequent spells; its movement increasingly displays his magic’s spatial nature 769.
- Flight: Useful for pursuit, but initially exposes gaps in his training—he struggles to aim drifting offensive spells while airborne and switches to his shotgun 210.
Combat and Weapons Adaptation
Su Ming combines magical disruption with firearms and flexible-weapon techniques rather than relying on direct contests of magical strength 173 199 210.
- Armor-piercing Bone Spears: Adapts terminally sensitive ammunition principles to concentrate multiple spears on a target at close range, defeating defenses a full major tier above his own 198.
- Flexible-weapon combat: Uses the Thorn Long Whip to maintain pressure, bind limbs, and conduct spells 173 210.
- Terrain exploitation: Draws pursuing assassins into a narrow mine tunnel where a 20 mm autocannon can cover their approach and deny evasion 443.
- Physical conditioning: Magic improves his strength and speed; he supplements this with strength training and close-combat practice 156 159.
- Remaining weakness: His late start leaves him short of the ingrained fundamentals and reactions possessed by specialist assassins 429.
Engineering, Logistics, and Command
- Mechanical work: Maintains ship engines, constructs steam-engine components, and restores old equipment through magic 30 46 63.
- Industrial planning: Organizes excavation support, communications, surveillance, drones, electrical safety, and production facilities 261 408.
- Resource management: Weighs missile production against ship upgrades and refuses to treat weapons procurement as separate from maintenance and supply 309 378.
- Operational analysis: Uses reconnaissance and combat data to identify enemy deployments and guide weapons development 231 241 417.
- Diplomacy: Seeks alliances and protects his faction’s reputation when short-term tactical gains would damage long-term cooperation 331.
- Political deception: Recognizes attempts to manipulate him and later engineers a three-way conflict to disrupt a hostile two-against-one situation 201 529.

- Ling Wen — Initially an object of his distrust during the Earth-side sabotage crisis; later supplies weapons and helps coordinate material requests 123 206 219.
- Miao Mu — Advises him on dealing with Earth’s institutions, competing interests, and mutually beneficial technical cooperation 227 229.
- Zhimeng — Provides Emerald Dream experiences that help reorganize his cognition and soothe spiritual strain. His apparent conversations with her inside those dreams later become suspect when she says she cannot enter his Emerald Dream 428 803 813.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Escape and the Earth Connection
After awakening, Su Ming is caught in White Bone’s conflict with the Temple of Light. His ability to operate an undead body on Earth gives him access to supplies, but also entangles him in Miao Xin’s murder investigation. He develops reconstruction spells to bring medicines and equipment into the other world 5 7 24 25 27.
Aboard the Zhiyuan and later the White Triangle, he handles engines, supplies, navigation research, and ship improvements while Zijin teaches him magic. His performance at sea earns him the nickname Bone King 30 50 63 128.
Earth-Side Sabotage
Miao Xin’s crisis in Vietnam nearly destroys both her ghost mark and Little Spiky Head’s skeleton mark. Su Ming repairs the connection, then investigates the possibility that an outside party deliberately opened her unencrypted seal. He chooses to hide and sends a warning demanding that the Interdimensional Service Department investigate its own compromised operation 122 123.
He later develops a more calculated approach to Earth-side cooperation, using advice from Miao Mu to balance institutional interests, security concerns, and the scientific value of his abilities 227 229.
Northern Expedition and Divine Might Prison
Su Ming upgrades the Youth Civilization into an armed industrial transport and establishes the Sheltered Valley excavation camp. His plans combine construction crews, necromancers, surveillance, communications, and unmanned reconnaissance 219 261.
During the snowy-mountain operations, he helps install an outpost on Silent Whisper Peak. His forces ultimately destroy Divine Might Prison and the Sea of Divine Grace, victories later cited by outsiders as evidence that he attacks the enemy’s strongest defensive positions 299 530.
Ruby Base and Industrial Expansion
Ruby Base becomes the center of his expanding production network. He coordinates power generation, batteries, defenses, intelligence gathering, and the construction of the Celestite Hydropower Station, whose dam closure brings electricity to the production lines 408.
A mine assassination attempt exposes weaknesses in the organization’s security. After surviving through terrain selection, firearms, undead servants, and a bionic decoy, he orders new identification procedures, mine regulations, guard arrangements, and a permanent counterintelligence agency 443 445 446.
War with the Divine Covenant Faction
Su Ming seeks to break the strategic deadlock by defeating the Divine Covenant Faction rather than remaining vulnerable to repeated raids and sabotage. The Star Empire regards his growing strength as a threat and rejects the prospect of simply allowing him to crush the faction 496 501.
His campaign combines evacuation planning, long-range aviation, maritime logistics, political manipulation, and unconventional weapons. He tries to limit the expedition’s deaths to fewer than ten thousand, or twenty thousand at most, despite his companions’ skepticism 504 520 523 529.
Miao Xin’s Death and the Plundering Clock
After awakening in a Feather Race hospital, Su Ming discovers that both Earth-linked undead marks have been torn from his consciousness. Sangzi tells him that Miao Xin and Xiyu killed one another. He vows that the conflict will not end until Jörmungandr is hanged 648.
He subsequently attends multinational planning for a joint offensive against the Plundering Clock. Later, unexpected teleportation leaves him and Yise in Cloud Fang City, a former demi-human royal city under the organization’s control 659 688.
Emerald Dream and the Planar Barrier
Within the Emerald Dream’s war-torn setting, Su Ming serves as a repair organizer, protects He Ran, and becomes head of Special Repair Two. His relationship with the dream’s Miao Xin develops into a romance; these events are distinct from their relationship in the waking world 647 809 810 811.
After an unexplained summoning leaves him unconscious, he learns that Zhimeng cannot personally enter his Emerald Dream, contradicting his recollection of repeatedly speaking with her there 813.
At the Rift Tribe’s ancient passage, he finds comparatively recent traces carrying a familiar power. Believing someone has left him a message, he activates the Dawn and Dusk Bracelet and crosses the barrier before the teleportation formation has been repaired or powered 820.
