Great premise and setting, but author fumbled on magic system. Gold finger became increasingly useless as his power level increased and wasn't fleshed out well. After exploring synthesis options for gems in the beginning, he moved onto plants and never touched any other new materials.
The Great Magic system mechanics were too complicated for only being at the second ring and it still wasn't explained well.

Constant references to memes and pop culture destroys the story's immersion and any tension. It's like reading a page off reddit.
