@Dimensionist @ProvideSit9190 The contradiction seems in the stored Chinese text; chapters 29–31 show her surviving, while later chapters explicitly say she died. Retranslation doesn't fix it and I checked the original source and its the same thing.

10/10. Very good novel. It makes Hiruzen being the Strongest Hokage a reality.

It's generally good for a Soul Land fic, but it shares the same problem where the MC only cares about girls, even when it makes no sense given his own characterization and the benefits he could get. They pretend otherwise with a few justifications here and there, but none of the justifications make sense on a closer look.

Take Tang San. If this was like those other fics which flanderized or demonized Tang San, it would make perfect sense not to take him. But the Tang San here showed integrity and good character, so it makes no sense, especially since he's a guaranteed student. Afraid of getting involved with the stronger factions or the gods? Such justifications stopped working when he broke the level limit. It barely worked before, given it honestly comes off as unfounded paranoia from those conspiracy theory fics.

The real reason is that they want to have a harem fic about collecting girls while pretending it's not, which just makes it awkward.

I was somewhat enjoying it. The gossip was fun, the pacing was fun, but the author seems to have a one track mind where every shred of gossip has to do with sex. Like of the scandals exposed, 90% of them are sex scandals. The remaining are relationship scandals. It's just. Tiring. A bit of a one trick pony. I don't mind a sex scandal, but are you unable to think of literally anything else that would be fun to gossip about?

Also there's this weird judgemental aura? If that makes sense? I have read PLENTY of gossip novels. But this one specifically barely straddled the line of misogynistic and homophobic, and even the scandals the MC chose not to expose as "harmless" had this weird aura where the narrative seemed to just be playing lip service to saying it was "harmless" because the author knew if she said what she really thought people would get pissed.

It was just. It was this combination of "the author chooses the conflict" and "can we choose literally any other melon category i have outrageous bisexual sex scandal fatigue and why cant you find some more straight men to make the enemy here" and "this feels mean spirited". Because as an author, you DO choose the conflict. I wouldn't mind if she was choosing conflict I would consider in poor taste IF the overall theme wasn't about morality. But it is. So when the author chooses to make a situation like "this man was arrested for making porn overseas and I justified it by having him call a female celebrity fat so we know he's a bad person even if i don't REALLY think porn is bad!!!" it's like. really girl. is that the case.

anyways i dont appreciate being preached to about morality from a narrative standpoint that is really clearly mean spirited and shallow. so. dropped.

Don't even know why this is considered a fan-fic, it looks like an original world, there are mentions of the old ones and things like that but com on, caught on to near the end In a couple of days, hope it keeps releasing, it is nowhere near the end.

Very good. A great fun warhammer read.

9/10 this will be my 3rd time reading this series, each time I've found it genuinely interesting and unique, especially considering that it finished half a decade ago. I had it translated on here since the site I used to read it is now gone.

6/10 in the last 300 chapters the quality begins to slip, around 1100 the plot starts going wonky, and by the final 50 chapters you realize the ending is going to be extremely anti-climatic. Overall the story is fine, the beginning is good, slow, cautious, and intelligent, but the author loses it by the end.
