Install RandomTranslator to open it from your Home Screen, Dock, or desktop in its own window. It uses the same reader and display settings as the site.
Note The installed app is also where offline reading lives. On the $5 tier or higher you can download chapters in the app and read them with no connection.
Android#
Open RandomTranslator in Chrome or Edge. Open Display Settings, choose the Site tab, and select Install app when it appears. Confirm the browser's install prompt. You can also use Install app or Add to Home screen in the browser menu.
If you opened a link inside another app, open it in Chrome or Edge first.
Desktop Chrome and Edge#
Open Display Settings, choose the Site tab, and select Install app when it appears. Confirm the browser's prompt. You can also use the install button in the address bar or the browser's app menu.
The install option disappears when you are using the installed app. Firefox on desktop does not offer this install option.
Mac Safari#
On macOS Sonoma or later, open RandomTranslator in Safari. Choose File, then Add to Dock, and select Add. Open RandomTranslator from the Dock next time.
iPhone and iPad#
Open RandomTranslator in Safari. Tap Share, then Add to Home Screen, and confirm Add. If offered, leave Open as Web App turned on. Open the new icon on your Home Screen next time.
The Add to Home Screen option in Display Settings, under Site, shows these steps too.
Note On iPhone and iPad, add the app to your Home Screen. Otherwise, Safari clears a site's saved data after about a week without a visit. Clearing site data yourself can also remove saved settings.
Smoother scrolling#
On a phone with a high refresh rate screen, scrolling can look smoother in one place than another. The site and the app run the same code; the difference is a system setting that caps how often the screen updates for web pages.
iPhone and iPad with ProMotion#
Safari caps web pages, and apps added from Safari, at 60 frames per second by default. To let them use the full 120 Hz:
- Open Settings, then Apps, then Safari.
- Tap Advanced, then Feature Flags.
- Turn off Prefer Page Rendering Updates near 60fps.
Close the app fully and reopen it. On older versions of iOS the same switch is under Advanced, then Experimental Features. The setting is Safari's, so it applies to every website and web app on the device, and it uses a little more battery while scrolling.
Android#
Chrome and Edge already draw at the screen's refresh rate. If scrolling looks capped, check the phone's own display setting: Motion smoothness or Smooth Display in Settings, then Display, set to the adaptive or highest option. Battery saver modes often turn this down.
For theme, font, and page width options, see Display Settings.
