Library and Notifications

Your library and the home page's Continue shelf both read from the same bookmark data, so a status change in one place shows up in the other right away. Notifications come in nine categories, each with one switch; if something you expect is missing from your feed, check its switch under Preferences before assuming something's broken.

Bookmarking a novel#

Bookmarking and setting a reading status are the same action: choosing any status also bookmarks the novel. You can bookmark from:

• The novel page, using the status menu near the top.
• The chapter reader, using the bookmark button in the bottom bar.
• Your library page, where every row already has this menu.

To remove a novel, open the same status menu and select Remove. It goes immediately, with no confirmation step, and a toast confirms it happened. Undo by bookmarking the novel again.

Reading statuses#

Removing a bookmark clears its status as well. There's no separate "bookmarked, no status" state you can set back to after removal.

How your progress is saved#

Opening a chapter usually saves your progress automatically, without asking. There are two cases where it asks instead:

• If you land on a chapter partway through a novel with no saved progress yet, a prompt appears: "Save your reading progress at Chapter N?" with No thanks and Save progress.
• If you already have saved progress and jump to a chapter that isn't the next one in sequence, a banner appears: "You were previously reading: Chapter N – [title]" with Go Back (returns you to your saved chapter) and Stay Here (moves your saved progress to the chapter you jumped to).

Clicking Next from your current chapter, or any chapter that follows on directly from your saved progress, saves progress silently as you go.

The library page#

Your library lists every novel you've bookmarked, with:

• Sort: Last Read, Recently Updated, Unread Chapters, Last Added. Last Added puts the novels that most recently entered your library first, counted from the first time you read, bookmarked or rated each one, whichever came first. The library opens in the same order you picked on the home page's Continue shelf (Read, Updated or Added), and picking Last Read, Recently Updated or Last Added here changes that choice too.
• Status filter: All, Reading, Plan to Read, Paused, Completed, Dropped.

Each row shows an unread count, worked out from how many chapters exist past your saved progress. A novel you're fully caught up on shows Up to date; one with no chapter data yet shows --.

Your home page#

Signed in, the home page is about your own reading:

• Continue reading shows up to 10 novels, the ones you read most recently first. It includes novels marked Reading, and Plan to Read novels only if you've already made progress in them. Paused, Dropped, and Completed novels don't appear. Each card shows your chapter progress and a small badge if newer chapters have appeared since you last read. Selecting a card takes you straight into your chapter, not the novel page.
• New chapters lists up to 6 of those novels that have new chapters since you last read them, newest first, with how many chapters are unread. Ch. takes you back to where you stopped.
• Because you read shows novels similar to the one you read most recently. A novel you've started shows the chapter you're on, as on Continue reading; any other shows how many chapters it has.
• Plan to read lists novels you saved and haven't started. Start opens chapter 1.
• Wikis from your library shows the top wiki entry from the novels you read, the most recently read first.
• Comments on your novels shows recent reviews and chapter comments other readers left on novels in your library. A chapter comment shows only if it's on a chapter you've already reached, so it can't spoil what's ahead.

With an empty or short shelf, the page also shows what's trending and new arrivals, and finished novels under Completed. A line near the bottom, Can't find a novel? Request it, opens the request page. For every other order of your novels, open your library.

Library Management#

Library Management keeps your library in step with what you read, so you don't have to bookmark by hand. It's off unless you turn it on: open your library, select Settings, and turn on Library Management. It's saved to your account, so it works on every device.

Each part has its own switch, and all of them start off: turn on Library Management, then turn on just the parts you want.

The chapter or day choice appears beside a switch once it's on. Paused novels don't appear in the daily new-chapter alerts or on the Continue shelf.

A novel only ever joins your library as Reading; every other change is to a novel that's already there. A toast in the reader tells you each time it changes something.

It never overrides you:

• A novel you remove from your library is never added back automatically.
• Completed and Dropped are never changed.
• A status you set yourself stays until you read that novel again. To keep a hand-set Plan to Read for good, turn off Plan to Read to Reading.
• Changing a novel's status yourself counts as reading it, for pausing.

Turning on a switch also goes through everything you've read so far and applies that part to your library, then tells you what changed. Changing a switch's chapter or days does the same for that switch. Turning something off stops future changes and undoes nothing.

To undo what it added, the same Settings dialog shows how many novels were added automatically, with a Remove button. It removes the ones you haven't changed since, and they won't be added again.

Your library on DaoSearch#

Link your account to DaoSearch and your library stays the same on both sites, within about two minutes, and DaoSearch's Continue picks up at your chapter here. See Linking DaoSearch.

Ratings and the rating reminder#

You can rate a novel Good, Neutral, or Bad at any time from the Opinions section on its novel page. Selecting your current rating again removes it.

You may also see a reminder to rate a novel you're partway through, offering the same rating as Good, Okay, or Bad, with a Maybe later option to dismiss it. Further into a novel you've already rated, a similar prompt may ask for a written review, with Skip and Submit options. Dismissing either reminder stops it from reappearing for a while.

Notifications: the bell#

The bell icon in the site header opens a dropdown of your recent notifications, and its badge shows how many are unread. From there, See all notifications takes you to the full notifications page. Signed-out visitors are asked to sign in when they select the bell.

On the notifications page, the menu beside Settings filters the list to one category: Chapter updates, New novels, Your requests, Contributions, Social, Progress, Site updates or Other. The filter is part of the page's address, so a filtered view can be bookmarked or shared.

Selecting a notification marks it as read. Mark all as read, in the bell or on the notifications page, clears every unread notification at once. There's no way to delete an individual notification. The closest equivalent is deleting the saved search behind a saved-search alert, from Saved searches on the notifications page.

Notification types#

Replies#

When someone replies to your chapter comment or to your novel review, you get a notification straight away (replies aren't bundled into a digest). It names who replied and the novel, quotes your comment or review and their reply, and links to it.

• Only the author of the comment or review being answered is notified. Replying to your own comment or review notifies no one.
• The notification goes to you as the author, whether or not the reply mentions your name. If it also @mentions you, you get this one notification, not a second one for the mention.
• Anyone else named with @ in the reply still gets a mention notification.
• A like on your comment or review notifies you too, but while an earlier like notification on the same comment or review is still unread, further likes don't add another.

Replies and likes follow the Social switch under Preferences.

Daily digests#

Three notifications arrive as digests rather than one-by-one, each once a day:

• Chapter updates: bundles new chapters across the novels you're bookmarked on, grouped separately for novels marked Reading and novels marked Plan to Read. A digest covering one novel includes its cover image; one covering several lists them with a link into each.
• New for you: up to three novels added in the last two days that match the novels in your library, each with a line saying why, like "Cultivation · Academy, like a novel you're reading". It's picked from tags, category, fandom and length, not by AI. It's on for everyone who's read in the last 30 days with at least five novels in their library, and on days with no good match it doesn't arrive at all.
• Saved-search alerts: bundles newly added novels that match your saved searches (see below), with title, category, word count, and tags for each, and a link to read.

Saved-search alerts#

To get notified when new novels match a search:

1. Go to Browse and open the advanced filters.
2. Set the filters you want to be alerted on.
3. Select Notify me.
4. Name the alert and select Save.

Creating a saved search automatically turns on Saved-search alerts for your account. New novels matching that filter set are bundled into your next saved-search digest.

Novel alerts#

If your account can't request novels, each novel found on Request offers Notify me when it's added. When the novel is on RandomTranslator you get one notification with the daily digests, and the alert is removed. Your alerts are private, and you can remove them from Novel alerts (the book with an exclamation mark) beside Settings on the notifications page.

Preferences#

Turn categories on or off from Settings on the notifications page, or from Preferences in the bell dropdown. Each switch shows the same icon as the notifications it controls. Every category starts on except Saved-search alerts, which turns on by itself the first time you save a search.

Under Chapter updates, Include Plan to Read (on to start) also covers novels marked Plan to Read. To leave out one novel, open Bookmark on its page and choose Mute updates (Unmute updates undoes it).

Chapter updates, New for you, Saved-search alerts and Levels and awards aren't sent at all while they're off. The other five are still delivered, but hidden: they stay out of the bell and the unfiltered list and don't count toward the unread badge, and you can still see them by choosing their category in the filter.

Each saved search can also be paused, or deleted, from Saved searches (the filter icon) beside Settings on the notifications page.
