Display Settings

How to change theme, font, size, and page width.

Display Settings opens the same dialog whether you get to it from the reader or from the site header, and every change applies immediately everywhere. Speech settings live in the same dialog but are covered on their own page, Read Aloud.

Opening Display Settings#

Open Display Settings from the reading-settings button in the reader's top bar, or from the site header. The dialog has three tabs: Reading, Speech, and Site.

Themes#

The Reading tab offers these presets: Original, Calm, Quiet, Dark, and Black, plus a Custom option.

Creating a custom theme#

  1. Select the Custom tile.
  2. Paste a set of CSS color values into the editor, or select Paste from clipboard.
  3. Select Apply.

The values you can set cover the site's core colors (background, foreground, card, primary, secondary, muted, accent, border, input, ring, popover, destructive), the sidebar's colors, code-block colors, link colors, the glossary suggestion color, and status colors for success, warning, info, and destructive states. Any value outside this set is ignored.

Note Only one custom theme can exist at a time. Applying a new one replaces the one you had. A custom theme is saved to your browser, not your account, so it doesn't follow you to a different device or browser.

Fonts#

The Font dropdown offers: Inter, Georgia, Palatino, Times New Roman, Charter, Montserrat, Manrope, Atkinson Hyperlegible, Literata, Merriweather, Lora, and OpenDyslexic.

Size, spacing, and alignment#

Hyphenation breaks long words with a hyphen when they don't fit on a line. It's most useful paired with Justify alignment.

Page width#

The width control is contextual: it's labeled Chapter Width while you're reading a chapter, and Site Width everywhere else on the site. Chapter Width only affects the width of the chapter text column; Site Width affects the layout of the rest of the site (browse, novel pages, and so on). Changing one doesn't change the other.

Both use the same +/- stepper, in a 10%–100% range with 5% steps.

Next to the width stepper is a separate Full Width switch, also contextual to whether you're on a chapter page. Turning it on removes the maximum-width cap entirely, regardless of the percentage set. This is useful on very wide screens where even 100% still leaves the text column capped.

Glossary and site toggles#

These live in the Site tab:

Where settings are stored, and when they apply#

Every setting on this page applies immediately; none of them require a page reload. Reading typography, chapter width, and read-aloud settings are stored in your browser's local storage. Theme, custom theme colors, and page width are stored in cookies, so a freshly loaded page already matches your preferences instead of flashing default styling first. They aren't a delay in applying a change.

Because these preferences live in your browser rather than your account, they don't carry over automatically to a different browser or device.
