Background

Diana was raised on Themyscira as the only daughter of Queen Hippolyta. Though thousands of years old, she retained an innocence born from never leaving the hidden island. She became fascinated by the outside world, men, and the human societies her mother described, but Hippolyta forbade any Amazon from departing for fear of drawing Ares's attention. 81 82

Hippolyta concealed Diana's true parentage for much of her life, telling her that she had been sculpted from clay and given life by Zeus. During the confrontation with Ares, Diana learned that Zeus was her father and that Ares was her half-brother. She refused to let this revelation distract her from stopping him. 91

David's arrival on Themyscira ended Diana's isolation. Initially curious about him as the first man she had ever encountered, she quickly fought him when he announced his intention to conquer the Amazons.
