A few days after her seventeenth birthday, Guō Qíng secretly left Hundred Flowers Valley with two maids to seek the freedom and adventure she had read about in storybooks. Her journey ended disastrously in Jixian: Jiāng Hóngbǎo attempted to assault her, and she crippled him; her two maids were later killed while protecting her from the resulting pursuit. 75 76

The Azure Flame Gang, led by Jiāng Hóngbǎo's father Jiāng Yuánróng, hunted her after the incident. Sū Mùzhē found her surrounded by skilled pursuers, rescued her, and began escorting her toward Hundred Flowers Valley.
