Background / History

Qin Xin was born Zhang Yan into a family that had withdrawn from the Jianghu. Her father, Huang Wengang's adopted son, inherited the Heavenly Demonic Qin but abandoned martial life, returned to his hometown, opened a guqin shop, and raised a family. He later became one of the locally celebrated Four Virtuosos alongside Song Gaoxuan, Wu Dewei, and Gao Zhewen. 418 421

The three men secretly coveted the Heavenly Demonic Qin. Exploiting Qin Xin's habit of disguising herself as a man to seek romance outside her home, they arranged for a charming man to court her. At sixteen, she unknowingly brought home a poisoned “tonic” from him on her father's birthday; the poison killed her father and brought ruin upon the Zhang family. 421

Haunted by guilt and driven by revenge, Qin Xin became Jue Ming's disciple and inherited the Heavenly Demonic Qin. She was initially determined to destroy Song, Wu, and Gao regardless of the cost, but learning that her younger brother was still alive shifted her priority from vengeance to finding him. 416 429

Her search led her and Duan Yi to Yixin Temple in Lin'an County, where Ruyi Tower used her brother as bait to seize the Qin. When the deception and her brother's death became clear, Qin Xin killed Gao Zhewu and unleashed the Heavenly Demonic Qin against the assembled Ruyi Tower forces. 454 455 457

Although she did not personally kill Song Gaoxuan, Wu Dewei, and Gao Zhewen, Ding Ran's men later eliminated all three, ending the revenge that had dominated her life. 500

Appearance

Qin Xin is a strikingly beautiful young woman with a refined, quiet bearing. She commonly carries the Heavenly Demonic Qin in a case on her back, making the instrument an inseparable part of her silhouette. 419 554

  • Fair, delicate features and a composed, almost otherworldly presence. 419
  • Often wears restrained, elegant clothing, including a light-yellow silk skirt with a water-blue sash and a silver forehead ornament. 554
  • Can disguise herself convincingly as a graceful young man when traveling alongside Duan Yi. 561
  • Her appearance becomes visibly haggard during periods of grief, anxiety, or separation from Duan Yi. 554

Personality

Qin Xin is reserved, poor with strangers, and more comfortable observing quietly than speaking. Before her family tragedy, she was playful, kind, romantic, and resistant to social constraints; guilt and loss buried those traits beneath an outwardly cold, revenge-driven disposition. 419 421 481

Her grief makes her intensely emotional and vulnerable to manipulation, particularly where her younger brother or Duan Yi is concerned. She can become reckless, murderous, or suffer signs of Qi Deviation when overwhelmed, as her emotional state directly affects the Heavenly Demonic Qin. 420 442 448 564

After the Yixin Temple events, Qin Xin gradually releases her obsession with revenge and regains her gentler nature. She remains deeply insecure about abandonment, but is loyal, perceptive, and willing to place Duan Yi's safety above even the Heavenly Demonic Qin. 467 481 555

Abilities & Skills

Heavenly Demonic Qin

Qin Xin wields the Heavenly Demonic Qin, a blood-red and black demonic guqin whose destructive power greatly exceeds her own martial foundation. It is both her greatest strength and the source of much of the danger surrounding her. 455

  • Can induce opponents' True Qi to flow in reverse, causing their internal energy to erupt and kill them. 455
  • Destroyed Yixin Temple's Great Hero Hall and killed large numbers of Ruyi Tower experts during Qin Xin's rampage. 455
  • Reacts to her emotional turmoil, spreading killing intent and potentially destabilizing those nearby even when she does not deliberately attack. 431 442 448
  • Defended Qin Xin automatically against Yan Yunxiao's Sword Intent. 558
  • Can be suppressed by the Great Luo Brahma Sound, especially when projected through a massive bronze bell. 456

Eight Dragon Sounds

Qin Xin employs the Eight Dragon Sounds as her characteristic qin technique, combining specialized finger methods with the Heavenly Demonic Qin's power. 455 611

  • Produces visible waves of force and devastating sound-based attacks when used with killing intent. 455
  • Was used to send the Qin's melody into the Blade Factory and render everyone inside unconscious. 611
  • Has not reached its theoretical perfection because Qin Xin lacks a sixth finger. 611

Lightness Skills and Qi Concealment

Jue Ming specifically trained Qin Xin's mobility so she would not depend exclusively on the Qin for survival. 452

  • Possesses capable lightness skills and can move through dangerous terrain quickly. 452
  • Understands basic Qi concealment, though she cannot fully hide her movements during a close investigation. 438
  • Remains notably less accomplished than Duan Yi in movement, perception, and independent survival. 452 613

  • Qin Xin's father — Former wielder of the Heavenly Demonic Qin and one of the Four Virtuosos. Qin Xin was manipulated into delivering the poison that killed him, leaving her with enduring guilt. 418 421
