Background / History

Basil is a transmigrator from Earth who awakened in the body of Basil Granger, a descendant of a wizard who came to Britain with William the Conqueror and a distant relative of apothecary founder Hartog Dagworth Granger. His parents died during the First Wizarding War, and his grandmother—who raised him—died shortly before his memories returned, leaving him an orphan. 2

His Hogwarts acceptance letter triggered both the return of his Earth memories and the activation of his Golden Finger, a dysfunctional version of Hogwarts: Magic Awakened. While fleeing Fenrir Greyback, Basil discovered that the system could not fully operate under the magical world’s rules, but that he could materialize its central artifact: the black Grimoire. 2 3

Basil survived Greyback’s attack using his home’s protections and Plant Affinity, ultimately trapping the werewolf in Devil’s Snare. Greyback’s death granted Basil the Fenrir Wolf Echo, beginning his use of Echoes as a primary source of power. 4 5

At Hogwarts, Basil was sorted into Gryffindor despite hoping for Slytherin. His connection with the castle subsequently deepened until he regarded Hogwarts as an extension of himself, able to observe and manipulate access to much of its territory. 19 16

His travels later extended to the School for Good and Evil, where Excalibur’s response to him led students and Raphael to mistake him for King Arthur. There, he developed Fairy Tale Mage powers and formed the basis of the cross-world Witch Club. 102 107 189

He treats magical knowledge, people, locations, and artifacts as data to be studied, often planning around Echo acquisition, Gem rewards, and long-term strategic advantages. He is also a self-described “hoarding squirrel” who stockpiles useful resources. 16 23

He is protective toward friends, particularly when they are threatened. He defends Harry and Ron from Fluffy, prioritizes Hermione’s safety during the troll incident, and later commits to helping Remus Lupin overcome lycanthropy. 31 53 178
