Background / History

Great Xia Prefecture was established under the Xia family. Its first Prefecture Lord, King Daxia, later reached the Invincible Realm; the second-generation Prefecture Lord died on the Battlefields of the Heavens. Xia Longwu became the third Prefecture Lord and one of the Human Realm's top-ranked prefectural leaders. 139

Its institutions and military culture were shaped by sustained warfare. Great Xia Prefecture built a reputation for producing elite soldiers, treating death in battle as an honor, and responding violently to the Ten Thousand Races Cult and foreign threats. This approach made its population unusually resistant to cult intimidation. 13 39

The prefecture's war effort imposed enormous financial costs. It had to maintain the Dragon Martial Guard, Demon Suppression Army, Prefecture Army, pensions, and generous compensation for the fallen; nearly one million people had died in battle over the years. 39 By the time of Xia Longwu's dispute with Wan Tiansheng, its treasury was nearly depleted despite its outward prosperity and military strength. 36

After Xia Longwu entered seclusion, Marquis Xia temporarily governed the prefecture. He reduced academy funding and enrollment, commercialized aspects of administration, and created a military Commerce Department to manage expenses and battlefield spoils. 36 40 44

The ambush and exile of Su Yu exposed widespread betrayal among high-ranking figures and devastated the prefecture's public trust. In response, Marquis Xia executed traitors, punished academy leadership, restricted the Single Divine Script faction, and launched extensive purges against the Ten Thousand Races Cult. 264 266 268

Great Xia Prefecture later endured a major siege connected to the Wen Mu Stele and Xia Longwu's path to Invincibility. Though it suffered severe losses and required support from Great Ming Prefecture, Xia Longwu successfully achieved the Dao and killed an Invincible. 481 496 498

Following the battle, Xia Longwu stepped down as Prefecture Lord. Xia Huyu was backed by the 28 city lords and succeeded him, prioritizing reconstruction and recovery while Xia Longwu handled greater threats. 503

Great Xia Prefecture includes 28 cities, including Nanyuan City and Great Xia Prefecture City. 40 266

Its capital region is markedly more prosperous than Nanyuan: its roads, settlements, markets, traffic, and nighttime activity are more developed, while ambient Qi is much denser. Wanshi Realm cultivators are common enough to be encountered on ordinary streets. 71

Nanyuan is comparatively resource-poor, with weaker spiritual energy and slower cultivation conditions. Its academy enrollment allocation is consequently treated differently from that of the prefectural capital. 40
