Background
Bai Feng came from the Bai family of Great Ming Prefecture, an established family associated primarily with the Warrior Dao. His ancestor Bai Tianhao was famed for killing a Shanhai Seventh Stage opponent while only at Lingyun Ninth Stage, while Bai Feng's grandfather was a Shanhai Realm expert who had remained in seclusion for years. Bai Feng's father served as a brigadier in the Prefecture Army. 271 312
Rather than remain with his family, Bai Feng chose to go to Great Xia Prefecture and join Daxia Civilization Academy, determined to follow the Fifth Generation Academy Head's legacy. He became Hong Tan's student and Liu Wenyan's martial nephew, joining the Multi-Divine Script Faction despite the faction's increasing suppression and decline. 107 312
By the time he met Su Yu, Bai Feng had spent nine years at the Civilization Academy and was an assistant researcher. He was already deeply involved in Hong Tan's research into extracting and reproducing the innate talents of the myriad races. 21 63
Appearance
Bai Feng is usually associated with flowing white robes and the refined bearing of a scholar. His appearance deteriorates sharply during extended research sessions, when he neglects sleep and personal grooming. 312 160 861
- Often wears white robes, which Su Yu remembers as part of Bai Feng's striking first impression. 861
- Can appear elegant and composed in public, particularly when trying to impress students or rivals. 21 118
- Frequently has messy hair, dark circles, an unkempt beard, and a fatigued expression after prolonged work in the laboratory. 158 160
- His body can expand to seven or eight meters after using Fire Pig essence blood and its Charge talent. 63
Personality
Bai Feng is an obsessive and highly creative researcher. He is willing to test dangerous theories, study unfamiliar races, challenge established conclusions, and pursue lines of inquiry that others consider impractical. His research ambition extends beyond simply improving combat power: he wants to uncover the principles behind Divine Scripts, innate talents, human potential, and eventually the nature of cultivation itself. 63 161 625
He is also vain, theatrical, and competitive. Bai Feng dislikes being called “Assistant Bai” rather than “Researcher Bai,” boasts about his achievements, enjoys shocking others with knowledge or displays of power, and often conceals injuries to preserve his image. 32 22 85
Despite his laziness in daily management, Bai Feng is protective of his students and loyal to his lineage. He entrusted Su Yu with highly sensitive research knowledge, concealed Su Yu's dangerous abilities from outsiders, and repeatedly chose to return to Great Xia Prefecture rather than abandon Hong Tan and the Multi-Divine Script Faction. 81 160 195 316
Abilities & Skills
Multi-Divine Script Fusion
Bai Feng follows the Multi-Divine Script path, using multiple Divine Scripts as the basis for overwhelming burst attacks.
- Fused eighteen Divine Scripts in one move to defeat Hu Wensheng instantly. 84
- Previously maintained a twelve-script core and later outlined sixteen additional Divine Scripts, for a total of twenty-eight. 195
- His fighting style favors committing his strongest attacks immediately rather than preserving power for a prolonged fight. 107 472
- The approach grants exceptional killing power but is less sustainable; failure to finish an opponent quickly can leave him vulnerable to counterattack. 107
Dragon Slaying Sword
Bai Feng's signature Divine Script combat skill is the Dragon Slaying Sword.
- Created multiple Dragon Slaying Swords with different Divine Script compositions. 185 186
- One sword was formed by stripping non-Human Race Divine Scripts from its composition; Bai Feng regarded it as the stronger weapon. 185
- Revealed four Dragon Slaying Swords in his battle against Xia Yuwen. 186
- Used a self-destructive final strike to defeat Xia Yuwen across a major-realm gap, but suffered critical injuries and lost most of his Divine Scripts. 186
- After the battle, he disclosed that he had shattered twenty-four Divine Scripts to severely injure Xia Yuwen. 195
Divine Script Combat Skill Decomposition
Bai Feng developed a method to split Divine Script combat skills into separate components.
- The method originated from his own research rather than the Fifth Generation Academy Head's legacy. 189
- He taught the technique directly to Su Yu after recovering from his battle with Xia Yuwen. 195
- The technique can only be used in the Soaring Realm and requires an existing Divine Script combat skill as its basis. 316
- Its use contributed significantly to Su Yu's later understanding of Divine Script combat skills. 318
Talent Blood Essence Research
Bai Feng specializes in analyzing essence blood and attempting to recreate myriad-race talent skills as usable talent blood essence.
- Demonstrated the Fire Pig race's Charge talent to the Elder Council by growing into a giant and launching a powerful punch. 63
- Identified talent skills as potentially related to Divine Script characteristics and theorized that myriad races possess special Divine Scripts that carry those talents. 93
- Correctly identified the Soul Devouring Insect's Soul Devour technique as a Yuan Qi mutation rather than a willpower talent. 160
- Can distinguish between essence blood formed from dead creatures and blood drawn from living creatures, including the residual willpower, resentment, and memory fragments that may remain in the former. 163
- Provided Su Yu with his prior essence-blood improvement method and assigned him the task of creating a viable outer blood layer for Soul Devouring Insect talent essence blood. 163
Willpower Scripts
Bai Feng is a highly capable writer of Willpower Scripts.
- Wrote the full Kaiyuan Jue as a Willpower Script, a feat Liu Wenyan could not complete despite having manifested willpower. 23
- Uses willpower to attack an opponent's vulnerable apertures directly, as demonstrated when he killed Hall Master Chen without approaching him. 18 21
- His mental power and knowledge of the Yi Shen Jue allowed him to shatter Hall Master Chen's nine apertures, trigger vital-energy backlash, and kill him in seconds. 18 21
Divine Script Analysis
Bai Feng possesses exceptional insight into the structure and interaction of Divine Scripts.
- Determined that Liu Wenyan's inherited Divine Script was a fusion of twenty-two Divine Scripts, primarily Human Race scripts. 185
- Proposed dismantling Liu Wenyan's inherited composite Script, removing incompatible non-Human Race Divine Scripts, and replacing the gaps with Liu Wenyan's own Scripts. 185
- Reflected Xia Yuwen's fire-based Divine Script backlash onto its owner by analyzing how its flames consumed surrounding willpower and Yuan Qi. 186
- Later proposed a path of merging Divine Script with oneself, treating the Script as a cultivatable body and foundation rather than relying solely on the Sea of Will. 625
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Dragon Slaying Swords — Multiple Divine Script combat-skill weapons with different Script configurations. 185 186
- Willpower Scripts — Writes and studies original texts and Willpower Scripts as both teaching materials and research tools. 23 195
- Essence blood and laboratory tools — Uses essence blood, jade talismans, and specialized materials for talent-extraction experiments. 63 163
- White robes — His characteristic clothing, though frequently damaged during transformations and combat. 63 861
Relationships
- Su Yu — His disciple. Bai Feng recruited Su Yu despite his average admissions score, taught him the Multi-Divine Script path and confidential research methods, and helped conceal Su Yu's unusual talent abilities. 32 90 160 195
- Hong Tan — His master and the head of the Wentan Research Center. Bai Feng continued Hong Tan's talent-extraction research and returned to Great Xia Prefecture to support him. 63 316
- Liu Wenyan — His martial uncle. Bai Feng seeks his advice, researches the Divine Script in Liu Wenyan's Sea of Will, and risks himself to support him during the faction conflict. 21 176 185
- Xia Yuwen — Rival and opponent. Bai Feng defeated him despite being four levels lower and separated by the Lingyun Realm, at the cost of shattering most of his Divine Scripts. 186 195
- Liu Hong — Academy rival. Their exchanges are marked by taunting, competition, and opposing interests within the academy. 32 53
- Wu Lan — Research associate. She supports Bai Feng's concept of merging Divine Script with oneself, though she refuses to share her willpower-purification research with him. 516 625
- Wu Yuehua — Ally who accompanied Bai Feng to protect Bai Junsheng in Nanyuan. 447
- Bai Junsheng — His cousin. Bai Feng acted to protect him, unaware at first that Su Yu was using the identity. 447 450
Story Role / Major Arcs
Nanyuan and Su Yu's Recruitment
Bai Feng first appears during the destruction of the Ten Thousand Races Cult cell in Nanyuan, where he kills Hall Master Chen by exploiting flaws in the Yi Shen Jue. He later introduces Su Yu to the wider cultivation system, tests his willpower, writes him a Willpower Script, and decides to take him as a student. 18 22 23 32
Wentan Research Center
As Su Yu enters the academy, Bai Feng makes him work at the Wentan Research Center while directing him toward the Filtration Room, Fragment Room, and talent-blood-essence research. His often absent-minded mentorship nevertheless gives Su Yu access to resources, instruction, and secrets unavailable elsewhere. 81 83 90
Multi-Divine Script Faction Conflict
Bai Feng publicly establishes his reputation by crushing Hu Wensheng, then becomes a direct target of the Single Divine Script Faction's suppression. His conflict with Xia Yuwen culminates in a costly victory that leaves him severely injured and strips away twenty-four Divine Scripts. 84 85 186 195
Research into Inherited Divine Scripts
While assisting Liu Wenyan, Bai Feng discovers that the latter's inherited Script is a composite of twenty-two Divine Scripts. His proposed dismantling and reconstruction method is recognized by Liu Wenyan as a possible future path for the Multi-Divine Script Faction. 185
Return from the Battlefields of the Heavens
After departing for the Battlefields of the Heavens, Bai Feng returns escorted by Xia Yunqi, Hu Ping, and Zhao Mingyue. He rejects Great Shang Prefecture's offer of a senior-researcher position and a reopened academy, choosing instead to return to Great Xia Prefecture and support Hong Tan. 316
Later Research
Bai Feng continues to pursue increasingly radical theories, including treating Divine Script as the self and using it as the foundation for continued advancement beyond conventional limits. Su Yu recognizes that Bai Feng's devotion to exploration makes him unusually similar to King Wen's research-oriented legacy. 625 861
Trivia
- Bai Feng dislikes being addressed as “Assistant Bai” and believes he should be called “Researcher Bai.” 32
- He has difficulty remembering the names of people he considers unimportant, preferring to identify them through relatives or family connections. 74
- He is frequently poor despite being a skilled researcher, and has sold belongings to support Su Yu's cultivation. 90 96
- Bai Feng considers research more important than fame, profit, or conventional cultivation prestige. 316 625
- Su Yu later concludes that Bai Feng was the member of their lineage who most closely inherited King Wen's spirit of exploration. 861
