History

Early surveillance and the Nako Stone

Konoha intensified its surveillance of Kirigakure after White Cold Light's emergence, with the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi regarding his speed, Mist Concealment Technique, and defensive ninjutsu as an alarming unknown. 26

It dispatched Kakashi Hatake's team to contest the Nako Stone. During the confrontation, Tenzo used Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence to seize the tablet from midair, revealing another Wood Release user to the surprised Mist Ninja. 78 79

War with Kirigakure

An Uchiha Clan rebellion temporarily prevented Konoha from joining the planned assault on Kirigakure. 161 After Kirigakure defeated Iwagakure and Sunagakure, Konoha mobilized an army of roughly 12,000 under Hiruzen Sarutobi and Shimura Danzō. 184

Konoha's command staff planned to delay Ye Liangnai's force while launching a surprise attack on Kirigakure, but Ye Liangnai overheard the plan through long-range sensory abilities. 183 His 2,000 Mist Ninja infiltrated the camp, divided into flanking forces, and covered the battlefield with Mist Concealment Technique, disrupting Konoha's reconnaissance network and isolating its fighters. 184 186

Kakashi and Tenzo were captured during the campaign. Konoha later recovered them, along with Hiruzen and Hyuga Hiashi, after Ye Liangnai returned the captives during a diplomatic visit. 186 204

Jiraiya ultimately negotiated a ceasefire with Ye Liangnai. Konoha withdrew after agreeing to provide Kirigakure with 30,000 taels of silver, medical assistance, and knowledge exchange. 199

Political reorganization

Hiruzen's capture prompted Danzō to seek the Hokage position, but Utatane Koharu, Mitokado Homura, and Jiraiya opposed his attempt to seize power. The return of Konoha's captives prevented Danzō from exploiting the crisis. 204

Following the Five Kage Summit, Konoha ceded interests to Kirigakure as part of the new world order. The agreement placed the Kage and daimyō on equal institutional footing: the daimyō retained economic authority, while village leaders controlled military affairs. 207

Kainojirou's invasion

During Kainojirou's Ninja World War, Xiu Yi attacked Konoha with an army of White Zetsu and Impure World Reincarnation shinobi, including former Konoha leaders and prominent deceased ninja. 326 334

Konoha's defenders—including Hiruzen, Jiraiya, Tsunade, Kakashi, and its clan forces—were pushed back by the reanimated army. 343 345 Hashirama Senju then arrived, resisted Xiu Yi's control, and fought alongside Konoha's shinobi to capture Xiu Yi and seal the reincarnated forces. 346 348
