Background

Minato became Hanma’s first disciple while still young. By age thirteen, he was already a gifted Body Flicker specialist and an unusually studious shinobi; Hanma traded military merits to acquire the forbidden Flying Thunder God Technique for him. Minato joined Nawaki and Kushina in the Hanma Class, where he began his formal training in space-time ninjutsu. 19 20

Hanma’s upbringing altered Minato’s outlook. He became more decisive and resolute without losing his warm disposition, but grew skeptical of the village’s demand that shinobi sacrifice their personal lives for Konoha. His stated lifelong wish became a stable home life with his wife and children rather than dying for an abstract ideal. 24 76

During the war against Amegakure, Minato led Kushina and Nawaki through infiltration operations, planted hundreds of explosive tags, lured Hanzo back to his village, and extracted Orochimaru, Tsunade, and Jiraiya through Flying Thunder God teleportation. 54 58
