Background / History

Yunyang Sect was a minor sect of the Mountain Sea Realm, but governed a territory of ten thousand miles and stood as the principal sect of the Great Gan Dynasty. Great Gan had recognized it as its suzerain for over seven hundred years, supplying tribute resources—including rice, black iron, white jade, purple clay, and talented children—in exchange for its protection. The sect also stationed disciples in Great Gan's prefectural and county cities. 193

Its power rested on long-term accumulation, a multi-peak structure, and extensive cultivation resources. The sect owned fewer than twenty flying warships, each costly enough that ordinary sects could not afford them; it dispatched fifteen for the Clear Realm campaign alone. 163

The sect's authority was shaken by the Human Hunting Case in Yunyang City. Sect Master Ji Guantao sealed the city, ordered an investigation, and had implicated Purple Mansion cultivators detained. The subsequent purge arrested hundreds of Purple Mansion-family disciples, eventually expanding to nearly a thousand suspects. The sect blamed Guiyuan Sect death warriors for instigating the case and reduced rents for outer-sect farmers, distributed rice seed, and compensated victims' families. 98 99

During the Clear Realm operation, Yunyang Sect used its flying fleet to investigate and suppress rogue cultivator strongholds suspected of sheltering evil cultivators and Malevolent Spirits. Later, Yunyang Sect launched a surprise assault on Guiyuan Sect in the Tianyun Mountain Range, alarming neighboring sects and escalating the longstanding conflict between the two powers. 216

It compelled settlements such as Five Tiger Stronghold to submit to investigation, pursued resisting cultivators, and confronted Malevolent Spirits, including a giant entity beneath a ruined city. 163 164 169 172

Conflict with Guiyuan Sect

The Human Hunting Case deepened the rivalry between Yunyang Sect and Guiyuan Sect. Yunyang Sect later launched a surprise attack against Guiyuan Sect in the Tianyun Mountain Range, triggering wider concern among surrounding sects. 99 216

Ascension and Collapse

Ji Guantao activated Taihao Peak's grand array to form a Nascent Soul, drawing spiritual energy from a thousand-mile radius and causing the sect's eight peaks to tremble. During the resulting conflict, he used the array to raise Taihao Peak—along with the sect's wealth—and abandoned the remaining disciples. 218 219

The Supreme Elder sacrificed himself to protect Taihao Peak from pursuing Nascent Soul True Immortals, allowing Ji Guantao and Mu Qingqiu to take it into the Upper Realm. The depleted Tianyun Mountain and the former Yunyang Sect territory were left behind, while the Yunyang Grand Protector later surrendered to Guiyuan Sect. 220 223
