Background

Rin is Tokiomi and Aoi Tohsaka's young daughter. She idolizes her father as a perfect magus, nobleman, teacher, and parent, and rigorously tries to emulate his elegance and discipline. Before the Holy Grail War, she practices magecraft and studies the defensive arrays around the Tohsaka residence. 5

Because the war threatens the family, Tokiomi plans to send Rin and Aoi to the Zenjou family. Rin accepts the practical need to leave Fuyuki, but remains worried for her father and asks Jizi to protect both him and the Tohsaka family. 6

Rin later returns to Fuyuki on her own and contacts Jizi from the train station, despite using a mobile phone for the first time. 20

Rin is a small child with braided hair who keeps her clothing and appearance carefully neat in imitation of her father's refined image. 5

Personality

She is courageous even when frightened. She enters Ryunosuke Uryu's hideout to rescue her friend Kotone, remains focused enough to sabotage Ryunosuke's control bangle, and calls the police to save the abducted children. 21

Rin cares deeply about her family. Her worry for Tokiomi drives her initial bond with Jizi, while her concern for Sakura emerges after witnessing Jizi's discussion with Yanye. 6 23

Encounter with Assassin

Rin discovers Jizi inside the Tohsaka residence's supposedly secure courtyard and proudly announces that she has caught a thief. 5 Their relationship quickly develops through banter, with Rin ultimately asking Jizi to protect Tokiomi, survive the war, and serve as her butler after Rin becomes head of the family. 6

Return to Fuyuki

After leaving with Aoi, Rin contacts Jizi and returns to Fuyuki without permission. Jizi picks her up from the train station, then accompanies her in tracking Ryunosuke Uryu. 20 21

Rescue of Kotone

Rin enters Ryunosuke's bar alone to rescue Kotone and finds dozens of unconscious children. She destroys Ryunosuke's control bangle with magecraft, calls the police, and helps secure the children's rescue. 21

Caster's Pursuit

Caster's Sea Demons corner Rin and Jizi after the rescue. Rin recognizes that Jizi could escape alone, but Jizi refuses to abandon her and promises that she will live. 22 Rin later witnesses Jizi evade Berserker and asks Yanye to intervene on her protector's behalf. 23
