Background / History

Irisviel remains at Einzbern Castle with Kiritsugu Emiya as he prepares the ritual to summon their Servant. Though surprised by the ritual’s simplicity, she watches anxiously while Kiritsugu completes the summoning preparations using the scabbard of the legendary holy sword as a catalyst. 7

During the early war, she and Saber encounter Jizi disguised as a hungry nun. Irisviel responds with uncomplicated kindness, giving the apparent nun money and encouraging her to continue helping people. 10 When Caster attacks Einzbern Castle, Irisviel quickly entrusts the defense to Saber, ordering a direct engagement after judging that the enemy’s presence carried no clear killing intent. 13 14

Kirei Kotomine captures Irisviel during the conflict around the Einzbern forest. Though wounded, she maintains faith that neither threats nor her death would sway Kiritsugu’s resolve. Jizi treats her injuries with conjured bandages, then later prevents Irisviel from assassinating Kirei; Irisviel initially resents this intervention and is placed under house arrest. 17 19 20
