Background / History

Liu Bai transmigrated into the Honkai world as an incorporeal Spirit accompanied by the Spirit Simulator. His first simulation placed him with Aponia during the Honkai outbreak in Dusk Alley. He initially failed to prevent her death, then repeated the simulation and established communication with her through touch, writing, and daily companionship. 1 2

His simulation involving Mobius lasted through her childhood and gave him eighteen years of companionship with her. Although he tried to provide her with a happy home, Mobius’s difficult circumstances still forced her to mature early. Clearing the simulation granted him Researcher Lv10 and left Mobius with exceptionally high compatibility. 5 6

After meeting Rita Rossweisse in reality, Liu Bai discovered that his simulation-derived abilities could affect the outside world. He used Haunt to possess Rita’s Carbon-Based Hunter for reconnaissance in Sky Dome City, later learning both the utility and limits of possessing machines, weapons, and Valkyrie equipment. 7 8

Liu Bai later became Hua’s tutor and martial-arts student. He taught her science while learning the foundations of Cunxin Fist in return; Hua came to address him as “Master.” Their mentorship eventually positioned Liu Bai as the founder and Ancestral Master of the Tai Xu Sword Sect. 39 40 302 303

Over years of intervention, he became a central organizer for researchers, soldiers, Valkyries, and Previous Era survivors. Although he declined supreme command of the Moth Chasers to Fire, he served as a strategist, talent-spotter, mediator, researcher, frontline support, and instructor. 451 463 465

Appearance

Liu Bai has no fixed natural body as a Spirit. His appearance depends on the object or form he possesses, ranging from weapons and dolls to a temporary flesh-and-blood human body. 47 302 330

He is deeply uncomfortable with failing to protect others. Aponia’s death in his first simulation became a defining experience: he can accept his own death with relative calm, but not the loss of others caused by his own inability. Despite his influence, Liu Bai recognizes his limits. He avoids claiming roles he considers unsuitable, such as overall military command, and instead prefers identifying capable people and placing them where they can succeed. 451
