Background

Shisui returned to Konoha as the Uchiha Clan's foremost shinobi, already an elite jōnin with a Mangekyō Sharingan. Confident that Naruto would be easy to defeat, he challenged him to a high-stakes kunai-throwing contest, only to lose repeatedly; he even put up Itachi's house as collateral during a rematch. 20 22 23

Sarutobi Hiruzen and Shimura Danzō considered Shisui a threat to their planned elimination of the Uchiha Clan. His Kotoamatsukami was feared for its ability to alter a target's consciousness without detection, so Hiruzen dispatched him on a mission intended to let Danzō assassinate him. Danzō ambushed Shisui, removed both Mangekyō Sharingan, and left him severely maimed in a river. 29 33

Naruto recovered Shisui, revealed his parentage, and offered him a choice between dying meaninglessly or following him to witness a new world. Naruto later restored Shisui's sight with transplanted Root eyes, though he also kept him in a cave prison for a time. 34 36 57

Shisui witnessed the Uchiha Clan massacre alongside Naruto. Horrified by Itachi's involvement, he accepted Naruto's offer to hold the attackers back for ten minutes so he could attempt to save clan members. After recovering one Mangekyō Sharingan, Shisui fought beside Naruto during campaigns against the Land of Water and Hidden Mist Village.
