After his mother, Su Ying, died, Gu Qiye became the practical caretaker of Gu Wenyu and Su Zimai while his father, Gu Zhuoan, withdrew from the family for two years. He relied on the bank card Su Ying had left behind, while Gu Zhuoan secretly deposited money into it each month. The burden left Gu Qiye accustomed to suppressing his own exhaustion and prioritizing his siblings' needs over his own. 23 107

He awakened as an Esper and became Blue Arc, Li Jing City's most prominent public hero. He kept this identity hidden from his family, repeatedly returning home injured after fighting criminals such as Ghost Bell. His early hero work was driven by both public responsibility and a desire to uncover the truth behind his mother's death. 9 24

Gu Qiye initially suspected that Black Cocoon might be connected to Gu Wenyu, but chose surveillance over confrontation. After Black Cocoon demonstrated knowledge of his identity and family, the two formed a cautious alliance based on mutual interests rather than trust. 14 25

His relationship with Gu Zhuoan remained hostile until he discovered that Ghost Bell—the criminal he had fought—was his father.
