Background / History

Wei Tu began as an indentured groom at the Li Residence. After seeing an aged reflection in water, he awakened a golden-purple Late Bloomer Destiny, marked by perseverance and eventual success. Seeking longevity and a path beyond his status, he resolved to obtain a Health Cultivation Technique rather than remain only a servant. 1

His second aunt, Wei Hong, arranged for Martial Master Ruan to provide the Turtle Breath Qi Cultivation Technique, but Ruan merely threw him the manual and offered no instruction. Wei Tu memorized and secretly copied the text before returning it, then trained its stances ten or more times daily around his stable work. 3 4

As his strength grew, Wei Tu sought freedom from the Li family rather than become Li Xingye's page. He was eventually redeemed as a civilian and, through Li Yaozu's recommendation, went to Sanyuan Township to study under Martial Graduate Dan. His ability to lift a 300-jin stone lock and his unusually refined Turtle Breath practice led Dan to accept him as a disciple. 9 12 13 16

Dan trained Wei Tu in archery, horsemanship, military strategy, saber work, and the Tiger Crane Double Form Fist. Wei Tu later excelled in the county Martial Arts Examination, becoming Qingshan County's Martial Arts Examination Top Scholar, then passed the Dao and Martial Arts Examinations as a second-class Martial Scholar. 18 19 31 33 43

After receiving a delayed and diminished appointment as a military Commander, Wei Tu entered the Qingshan County garrison. He repeatedly refused recruitment by Wu Yun Tower despite its promises of cultivation resources and longevity, instead preparing armor for the coming government campaign against the sect. 44 45 47

Having entered the immortal path, Wei Tu developed into a respected second-grade talisman master and established his foundation at roughly one hundred years of age. His survival of the Cloud Marsh Secret Realm, where the Crane Mountain Huang Family's Foundation Establishment cultivators perished, greatly increased his reputation among Zheng State's cultivators. 115 161

Wei Tu later cultivated the Minor Spring and Autumn Technique, Divine Wood Origin Art, and body-refinement arts alongside talismanry and alchemy. His pragmatic accumulation of techniques, resources, allies, and life-saving treasures enabled him to successively enter the Golden Core, Nascent Soul, and Spirit Transformation realms. 201 284 403 639

As his power rose, Wei Tu became High Priest of the Burning Mountain Tribe, joined the Cangkun Alliance and Five Elders Mountain, and ultimately entered the Extreme Mountain Sect. He repeatedly used false identities—most notably Wen Tianqi and Talisman Daoist—to obtain resources, investigate enemies, and avoid exposing his true background. 260 271 528 614 699

After ascending beyond the lower cultivation realms, Wei Tu continued to advance through Void Refinement and Integrated Body while navigating the Human Realm, Spirit Realm, Ancient Demon Realm, and Sky-Demon Realm. He eventually attained Mahayana cultivation, slew Yue Divine Son, and was acknowledged as a Realm Lord by cultivators who had previously underestimated him. 1056 1226 1321

Appearance

Wei Tu was initially described as unremarkable, resembling an ordinary rural farmer rather than someone with auspicious or exceptional features. Cultivation steadily transformed his build and bearing; after training under Dan, he possessed broader shoulders and chest muscles, sharper senses, and a chilling martial aura that intimidated others. 10 24 25

  • Initially worked in plain servant clothing as a groom at the Li Residence. 1 17
  • Wore a purple padded jacket gifted to Xinghua when returning for the county examination. 24
  • Developed a powerful physique through the Turtle Breath Qi Cultivation Technique. 13 16
  • Later carried a Golden Back Mountain Chopping Saber and three bows. 49
  • Retained an ordinary, easily overlooked appearance even after entering the immortal path, though his cultivation and bearing increasingly made others treat him with reverence. 166 258
  • Can alter his appearance, aura, build, and voice through disguises, talismans, body cultivation, and the Joyful Nuo Mask. 172 528 921
  • His body-refinement techniques can manifest white jade scales, Baleful Demon Armor, a Flying Yaksha form, and other inhuman traits during battle. 326 356

Personality

Wei Tu is patient, disciplined, and intensely pragmatic. Though he recognizes his initially average circumstances and limited opportunities, he treats repeated practice as his route across class boundaries, training even when exhausted and pursuing cultivation primarily for longevity and independence. 1 4 50

He is grateful without being blindly submissive. Wei Tu remembers Wei Hong's role in obtaining his first manual and respects Martial Graduate Dan deeply, but he keeps clear boundaries with both the Huang and Dan families; he will repay kindness, yet refuses to become anyone's tool or servant. 22 27 30 49

His caution extends to politics and sectarian conflict. He refuses Wu Yun Tower's offers because he distrusts its promises, recognizes the government's hostility toward it, and avoids missions where betrayal could leave him isolated. 35 45

Wei Tu remains careful even after becoming powerful. He routinely conceals his cultivation, constructs alternate identities, probes prospective allies, and chooses negotiation or retreat whenever a direct clash creates unacceptable danger. 172 409 519 705

Though fundamentally restrained, he has become increasingly decisive and ruthless toward enemies who threaten his Dao, family, or allies. He will use ambushes, soul restrictions, talismans, body cultivation, and false identities to ensure victory rather than accept an honorable but dangerous contest. 356 586 810 863

He is notably resistant to seduction and refuses to treat women who seek his protection as disposable prizes. His restraint toward Heaven-Brow Snow Lady, as well as his respect for Wang Sutai's explanation before judging her, reflect his insistence on preserving his own principles amid the cultivation world's shifting loyalties. 727 748

  • His early talisman craft provided a stable source of income and allowed him to cultivate while remaining inconspicuous in the market. 98 108

  • Chaotic Calamity Evil Eye enhances his spiritual perception, exposes hidden threats, and can transform him into a Heavenly Ghost to strengthen his soul. 668 974
  • His divine sense eventually became comparable to that of Abbess Lan, allowing him to detect hidden Spirit Transformation cultivators before they entered others' perception range. 755 762
  • The Joyful Nuo Mask and his body-cultivation-based transformations permit him to alter his face, build, voice, aura, and apparent identity with exceptional precision. 528 921
