Background / History

Tiamat is the Mother of Creation and one of the Seven Evils of Humanity. As Beast II, her intrinsic impulse is Regression: returning all life to its origin, devouring and transforming it into her children, and beginning a new cycle of creation. Her maternal reason, however, continues to love humanity—even the children who rebelled against, killed, and dismembered her 299.

The Sumerian gods sealed her in the Imaginary Numbers World. There, isolated in the Sea of Life, she contacted Rovey through the Voice of Heaven and drew him to her sealing ground. Their exchange of blood, magic, memories, and emotions allowed Rovey to understand her loneliness and conflicting love for humanity; Tiamat came to regard him as an irreplaceable companion 297 302.

Goetia later damaged Tiamat's seals to force her return. Tiamat resisted him instead, choosing to protect humanity from his plan. She fought Goetia with her avatar, Beast body, and ultimately her Primordial Dragon form, even at the risk of losing herself to her Beast nature 324 325.

After briefly suppressing her Beast side in a human-shaped vessel, Tiamat travelled with Rovey to Uruk to experience ordinary human life. She wished to live peacefully among people rather than be feared or rejected as a calamity 327 329 405.

The defeat of Gorgon returned accumulated hatred and the Sea of Life's authority to Tiamat, burning away her rationality. Her Beast side took control, and she emerged as the Dragon of Creation, spreading black tides and Nega-Genesis across Mesopotamia 393 404.

Rovey and his allies eventually forced her into the Underworld, transferred her to the Temple of Time, and used Fairy Transformation and the Spear of Longinus to turn her into a human. Tiamat then sacrificed her body to restore the damaged Mesopotamian Ley Lines. Her soul was preserved and given a reconstructed Spirit Origin, allowing her to return as a Heroic Spirit 407 412 418.

Appearance

Tiamat's appearance changes drastically according to whether her human reason or Beast nature is dominant.

• Humanoid form — A woman with light-blue hair, enormous dragon horns, faint black cheek scales, and star-patterned eyes. Her features and presence are described as distinctly maternal 324.
• Clothing — Her initial apparent “clothing” consists of scales or keratin rather than garments; Rovey later uses projection magecraft to give her a modern-style dress before entering Uruk 329.
• Corrupted Beast form — Her azure scales blacken, red star-like patterns spread over her pale body, and her eyes shine purple or crimson 393.
• Dragon form — An immense black dragon with curved horns, dishevelled sky-blue hair, crossed star-shaped eyes, wings, and a maw lined with interlocking teeth 404 405.
• Post-resurrection form — She possesses the body of an ordinary woman, though her connection to the Ley Lines gives her a conceptual mass approaching that of all Mesopotamia 422.

Personality

Tiamat is defined by a contradiction between her instinct to return life to its origin and her unconditional love for that same life. She remains hurt by humanity's betrayal, yet sincerely wishes her children to grow, live happily, and eventually surpass her 299.

During her lucid periods, she is affectionate, curious, emotionally direct, and inexperienced with ordinary human conduct. Her long isolation left her with virtually no outdoor experience or social common sense; she learns human behavior by observing Rovey, Merry, and Uruk's residents 328 373.

Her protectiveness becomes absolute when humanity is threatened. Goetia's intention to exterminate humans provokes her into an all-out battle despite the danger that embracing her Beast form could erase her rationality 324 325.

As the Mother of Creation, Tiamat can alter life, ecosystems, and the planet's environment on a global scale.

• It spreads as a curtain of light that turns the world black and white, erases life, weakens gods and Servants, damages mana-based lifeforms, and can nullify existence 395.
• She uses it to remake the world into a new ecosystem and draw surrounding existence into a vortex 394.
• Its effect can be neutralized by power originating from Tiamat herself, including her scales contained within a Holy Grail 407 411.
• Tiamat's authority also healed Rovey's injuries after she left him a final gift 371.

Tiamat commands the Sea of Life, a black ocean that sustains her, grants restoration, and generates her offspring.

Sealed Mother of the Sea of Life

Tiamat calls Rovey to her prison through the Voice of Heaven. Their contact establishes the emotional connection that drives Rovey's later determination to save her rather than destroy her 297 302.

Conflict with Goetia

After Goetia breaks her seals, Tiamat openly opposes his plan to exterminate humanity. Her battle against him proves that her protective maternal will can temporarily overcome her Beastly instinct 323 324.

Life in Uruk

In a weakened human-like state, Tiamat travels to Uruk with Rovey and Kingu. She experiences human towns, learns everyday behavior, and tries to cook for the city's people 329 373.

Return of Beast II

Gorgon's defeat returns hatred and authority to Tiamat, allowing the Beast side to consume her reason. She manifests as the Dragon of Creation, revives the Eleven Children, and begins remaking the world through Nega-Genesis 393 394.

Battle of the Underworld and Temple of Time

Rovey's allies destroy her wings and force her into the Underworld, where the Mesopotamian Underworld and Land of Shadows temporarily suppress her. She is then transferred to the Temple of Time, where Rovey and Goetia help complete her transformation into a human 407 408 412.

Sacrifice and Rebirth

Tiamat merges with Mesopotamia's Ley Lines to repair the dead earth and prevent future calamities. Rovey, the Demon God Pillars, and their allies reconstruct her body while preserving her soul, restoring her as a Heroic Spirit without her Divinity or Beast class 418.

• Tiamat's human form cannot be conventionally transported because her fusion with Mesopotamia's Ley Lines gives her a conceptual mass approaching “infinity,” despite appearing physically light enough for Rovey to carry 422.
