As a cultural city, the National Library of France had far more readers than libraries in other cities. The reading rooms were nearly full, though unfortunately, it was built in a modern style and nowhere near as magnificent as The Hunchback of Notre-Dame or the Louvre Museum, so naturally it attracted no tourists.

Far from the city center, the library looked desolate from the outside. Combined with the howling wind, it seemed abandoned.

But around the library, a new city was rapidly being built.

Gucci's owner, François Pinault, had originally planned to build his own museum in Paris. Unfortunately, the sluggish city government had delayed the project until it was nearly impossible to carry out, so in April he announced that he would move the museum to Venice's Grand Canal.
