Background and History

The Purifying Lotus Demon Saint gave the flame intelligence and human thoughts. He later sealed it in the Demon Flame Space rather than erase its memories, hoping its violence would fade. Instead, its hatred grew over thousands of years 250 253.

When the flame descended again, factions gathered to seize it. It trapped intruders with the Nightmare Mist, then appeared in the form of a white-robed man above a magma sea. After killing many weaker entrants, it fought the remaining experts and broke free of Hun Miesheng’s Heavenly Net Sealing Demon Formation 241 246 247 249.

To escape the Demon Flame Space, it turned the Demon Saint’s Heaven-Refining Ancient Formation against everyone inside. A remnant of the Saint manifested through Huo Xuan, took back control of the formation, and stripped the flame’s intelligence and memories from its source. Both the Saint’s remnant and the separated intelligence vanished in their final clash 251 252 253.

The source remained as a peaceful flame lotus. Huo Xuan refined it with Huo Zhi’s help; its energy was too great for him to bear alone. A Heavenly Flame Spirit later emerged from their refined flames, and Huo Xuan named it Little Demon 254 255 256.

Appearance

The intelligent flame takes the form of a handsome man in white robes. Its flame and source also appear in distinct lotus forms 246 253 255.

• Demon lotus — white petals marked with fine red veins after the flame’s explosive attack 253.
• True source — a small cluster of pink flame at the lotus’s core 255.
• Escaped form — a gigantic flaming figure a thousand zhang tall during its struggle against the Heavenly Net seal 249.

Personality

Before its intelligence was erased, the flame was violent, proud, and fiercely determined to escape. It resented the Demon Saint for sealing it, despite having once regarded him as its master. Facing the loss of its memories, it pleaded for mercy but attacked the Saint again when he came close 250 252 253.

Afterward, the remaining source was quiet and did not attack Huo Xuan or Huo Zhi as they approached. It still possessed spirituality, but no longer had its former memories or developed intelligence 254 255.

Abilities & Skills

Purifying Flame

Contact with even a trace of the flame can purify matter into nothingness. Its heat is also dangerous to powerful cultivators: in the Demon Flame Source, even Four- or Five-Star Dou Sheng could not remain for long 204 253.

• It can ignite emotions and kill weaker intruders; at its command, nearly eighty percent of the Dou Zun experts in the Demon Flame Space exploded 247.
• Within Little Demon, it purifies impurities from absorbed Black Demon Lightning, leaving pure energy 259.

Nightmare Mist

An illusion technique inherited from the Purifying Lotus Demon Saint, the Nightmare Mist uses human emotions to draw victims into illusions 244 246.

• Huo Xuan breaks its illusion with a Nightmare Breaking Rune, revealing the magma sea and the real Demon Flame 246.

Fire Slaves

The flame can create and command Fire Slaves, including ten Dou Sheng-level fighters summoned against the assembled experts 247 248.

• It attempts to refine everyone trapped in the Demon Flame Space into further Fire Slaves using the Heaven-Refining Ancient Formation 251.

Heaven-Refining Ancient Formation

The flame learns to operate the formation originally laid down by the Demon Saint, using its Heavenly and Earthly Formations to trap and attack those in the Demon Flame Space 251.

• Its combined attacks overwhelm the defenders, but the Saint’s remnant shields them 251.
• The Saint, who created the formation, halts its attack and takes control back 252.

Relationships

• Purifying Lotus Demon Saint — former master who gave it intelligence, then sealed it because of its violence. He regarded the flame as his only child but ultimately removed its memories and intelligence 208 252 253.
• Huo Xuan — obtains the Saint’s remnant through a map and later refines the flame’s remaining source 208 255.
• Huo Zhi — stays in the Demon Flame Space and helps Huo Xuan survive the source’s immense energy during refinement 252 255.
