Carcas curled his lip. "Even if you'd known the Guardian's personality early on, how could you be sure... that you'd really have done that?"

Herpo raised an eyebrow and lowered his voice. "What do you mean?"

"What did you say back then?" Carcas reminded him. "That Guardian would become a sacrifice, so we didn't need to concern ourselves with him..."
