Background / History

Appointed Head of All Male Immortals by Hongjun, Dong Wanggong sought to make the Immortal Court prosper. He fought Tongtian, who later recalled Dong Wanggong as arrogant in those days. After Tongtian beat him, Dong Wanggong forged the Four Swords of God Execution in imitation of Tongtian’s Four Swords of Immortal Execution 25 26.

The Immortal Court fell when Eastern Emperor Taiyi arrived alone and attacked with the Chaos Bell. Dong Wanggong said he had expected his eight million troops to give him a position from which to negotiate, but chose to die fighting rather than abandon his duty. His divine soul later remained at the ruined court 24 25 26.

When Li Yuan, Xuandu, Guangchengzi, Duobao, and Kong Xuan entered the ruins, Dong Wanggong initially confronted them through an imposing pair of eyes in the sky. Duobao’s sword strike exposed how little power he had left. Dong Wanggong offered the group his legacy, and Li Yuan accepted once he heard it included the Pure Yang True Fire. Afterward, Xuandu sheltered Dong Wanggong’s divine soul in the Heaven and Earth Exquisite Pagoda, whose Mysterious Yellow Qi could nourish it 24 25 26.

Dong Wanggong later stated publicly that he had reincarnated into the Human Race and was now called Lü Dongbin 124.

At the ruined Immortal Court, Dong Wanggong manifests as a middle-aged Daoist with a hint of imperial authority 24.

Personality

Dong Wanggong takes pride in his former office and his decision to defend the Immortal Court, even after its fall. His grand introduction falters when the younger disciples dismiss his legacy, but he still distributes his treasures and allows them to cultivate in his court. He is visibly embarrassed when Duobao recognizes the resemblance between his swords and Tongtian’s 24 25 26.
