Background

Xuandu is Laozi's disciple and Li Yuan's senior brother in the Human Sect. Though his general cultivation talent was considered average, Laozi regarded his aptitude in the Pill Dao as exceptional. His alchemical talent was visibly manifested during an early Dao discussion, when a phantom of the Nine Revolutions Golden Elixir appeared above him. 3 5

When Li Yuan reached the Heavenly Immortal realm, Xuandu delivered Laozi's reward on his master's behalf: the Southern Earth Detaching Flame Light Flag, a Top-Grade Primordial Spiritual Treasure. He had himself received the Heaven and Earth Exquisite Pagoda, establishing him early as one of the Human Sect's most heavily equipped disciples. 3

During the mission concerning the Witch-Demon Calamity, Xuandu descended Kunlun Mountain with Li Yuan, Guangchengzi, and Duobao. The four acted as the chief disciples of the Three Teachings and traveled to the Southern Blazing Undying Volcano, where Kong Xuan was eventually recruited into the Chan Sect. 15 19

Personality

Xuandu is generally steady, supportive, and willing to assume responsibility for his fellow disciples. He comforts Li Yuan over cultivation difficulties, encourages cooperation during dangerous trials, and advocates forming alliances before confronting unknown threats. 4 167

He also has a practical business sense. After reviewing Fu Xi's Human Race development proposal, Xuandu agreed to provide guidance and investment, noting that the Human Sect had ample capital for suitable projects. 102 103

Despite his composed bearing, Xuandu participates readily in his peers' increasingly eccentric activities, including mahjong sessions and competitive fishing. His patience is notably tested by the side effects of the Abstract Primordial Chaos trial and Li Yuan's repeated antics. 137 165 244
