Background

Guang Ling enters Xuantian Academy as a red-haired student of Gui Class alongside Mo Ziqian. Meng Anli immediately recognizes him as the Crown Prince of the Guang Clan Dragon Tribe from information she learned in her previous life; she had been told that he would seek revenge after Crown Prince Shaoguang harmed Yin Lian, only to be killed by Shaoguang himself. 18

His first meetings with Meng Anli are hostile. He resents her pitying looks, challenges her to test their strength, and dismisses her as a coward when she postpones the match. 18 When they spar, Guang Ling overwhelms Anli in three moves through speed, close-quarters technique, and physical strength. Her sincere thanks afterward visibly unsettles him. 25

Though he initially refuses Yuan Tuo's order to team with Meng Anli and Lu Yao because he does not want to work with girls, Anli persuades him to remain and teach her. He becomes a regular sparring partner and one of Gui Class's strongest fighters. 26 68

Guang Ling is the son of Vast and Boundless, master of the Dragon Palace, and the brother of Guang Yin Lian. Yin Lian's premature emergence from the Dragon Clan secret realm left her physically weak, leading Guang Ling to become intensely protective of her. 74 When she disappears, he panics and joins Meng Anli's search, trusting Anli's judgment when she concludes that Yin Lian's supposed elopement is likely a cover for a dangerous mission. 113

Appearance

In human form, Guang Ling is a red-haired young man with dark, obsidian-like eyes. His red hair is natural, and dragon horns emerge when his anger surges. 68 141 419 After years on Penglai Island, his build becomes broader, his skin darker, and his bearing more resolute. 419

  • Naturally red hair, which he takes pride in. 68
  • Dark eyes; described as obsidian-like after his reunion with Meng Anli. 419
  • Dragon horns can emerge under extreme anger. 141
  • Can assume a golden dragon form. 422
  • Later commonly wears coarse linen clothes and a straw hat while tending fire date trees. 419

Personality

Guang Ling begins as arrogant, impatient, and easily provoked. He dislikes being treated as Meng Anli's companion reader, reacts sharply to perceived insults, and can become overaggressive in battle when frustrated. 19 200 His bluntness is paired with sincerity: he is quick to defend his friends, openly condemns those who harmed Meng Anli, and takes family loyalty seriously. 58 99

He is particularly protective of Yin Lian. Guang Ling promises to fight anyone who deceives her and loses his composure when she disappears. 58 113 His attachment to his friends is equally strong; he calls Mo Ziqian his best friend and values the unity of their group above individual advantage. 204 317

Life on Penglai Island tempers his earlier recklessness. Working in the orchard and learning from the Longevity Star makes him calmer and more patient, though his enthusiasm for fighting alongside Meng Anli remains intact. 419 420
