History

Hou Tu first intervened on Qin Xuan’s behalf before his birth, persuading her siblings not to use the Blood Pool to conceive clansmen while he still needed its essence to establish his foundation 1. She later accompanied him to Hongjun’s first lecture at Zixiao Palace, where Qin Xuan secured a prayer mat for her 4 6.

At Qin Xuan’s suggestion, Hou Tu used Three Lights Divine Water and Chaos Spirit Liquid to treat the damage to her Primordial Spirit. After prolonged cultivation, she formed a nascent soul and received his copy of the Primordial Creation Art 23 41. She subsequently developed an unconventional way of cultivating the laws by repeatedly burying and unearthing Fuxi beneath Buzhou Mountain 110 111.

While traveling through lands scarred by the Immortal-Demon conflict, Hou Tu buried the fallen. Her growing compassion led her to resolve that the dead should have another chance at life 231 240. Despite her siblings’ objections, she chose to turn her body into the Six Paths of Reincarnation. Pangu taught her to separate her Primordial Spirit so that she might survive while Pingxin emerged to govern Reincarnation 240 241 253.

Qin Xuan preserved Hou Tu’s spirit in his Myriad Laws World while her body was reconstructed. She eventually awoke, returned to Buzhou Mountain, and received Pangu’s essence blood to restore her bloodline 258 288 291. Hou Tu and Pingxin later met as distinct individuals 318.

Personality

Hou Tu is attentive to her family and sympathetic toward those in distress. She defended Qin Xuan’s foundation before his birth and felt pity for the injured Six-Eared Macaque, though she left the decision about helping him to Qin Xuan 1 25. Her willingness to create Reincarnation, even when she believed it would erase her, reflects her sense of duty to the living beings of Pangu’s world 240.

Her gentle manner also has a mischievous and fierce side. She turned burying Fuxi into cultivation practice, later taught Xihe and Changxi violent interpretations of familiar sayings, and reacted with killing intent upon hearing that Yuanshi had tried to divide Qin Xuan and Nüwa 110 112 189.
