Yang He's gaze fell on the postman identity as he weighed its feasibility.
Suddenly, more information appeared on the panel.
Spiritual Vision has reached 10 points. You may consume Spiritual Vision to refresh identities.
Yang He immediately gave up on the postman. The family letter in the information was definitely connected to ghosts; he might encounter a life-or-death crisis right from the start.
Consume 1 point of Spiritual Vision to refresh identities?
"Confirm."
The three faces gradually faded away, followed by the appearance of new ones.
Unfortunately, there was still no green-quality identity.
Clay Figurine Vendor (White): You made a living selling clay figurines in Cailian Town. One day, you accidentally discovered that the clay figures you molded seemed to have come alive.
Night Watchman (White): Since Cailian Town imposed its curfew, you had never seen a living person again. Do not look back. Do not stop beating the gong.
Yang He narrowed his eyes. The new identities revealed something deeply unsettling.
The strange influence Nezha had brought seemed to have spread throughout Cailian Town. Once Nezha broke free, how many people in the town would still survive?
Yang He felt somewhat nervous, then turned to the third identity.
Daoist Acolyte (White): Upon waking, you discovered that you were trapped inside a pitch-black jar. The voice outside claimed to be your master.
"Daoist acolyte..."
Yang He stared at the words for a long while. The moment he saw Daoist acolyte, he thought of Qianyuan Mountain.
He had come here seeking a cultivation method. This Daoist acolyte identity looked almost within reach, but Qianyuan Mountain in Investiture of Ghosts might not be normal.
Consume 10 points of Spiritual Vision to refresh identities?
"Looks like the Spiritual Vision needed for each refresh increases tenfold."
"Forget it. I'll take Daoist acolyte."
Yang He abandoned the thought of refreshing again, but another idea came to mind.
"Come to think of it, can the Ghost Eye be brought into a Lore World...?"
Consume 1 point of Spiritual Vision to impart the incomplete Qi Gazing Technique to the identity 'Daoist Acolyte'?
Yang He was overjoyed. As he confirmed, the identity information turned green.
Daoist Acolyte (Green): Upon waking, you discovered that you were trapped inside a pitch-black jar. You could only cling to life through your family's incomplete Qi Gazing Technique, while the voice outside claimed to be your master.
Identities of green quality and above require additional Spiritual Vision. If no identity is selected, you will enter the lore as your true body and assume a role.
Yang He looked around the frozen Main World and forcibly suppressed his distracting thoughts.
"Choose Daoist acolyte."
Consume 4 points of Spiritual Vision and carry additional items to enter the lore 'Ghost Lotus'?
"Confirm."
Cicadas chirped one after another, sometimes shrill and sometimes melodic amid the trees.
"Cailian Town is just ahead. Once I deliver this family letter, I should leave as soon as possible."
The old postman rode over mountains and through valleys. The cool mountain breeze dispersed the summer heat, but the family letter that had appeared out of nowhere still left him uneasy.
Before every journey, he always counted the letters carefully.
Sigh, where had this letter from Chentang Pass even come from?
Still, it had been sent by the General's Mansion. The old postman did not dare offend them and could only hurry toward his destination.
"No, I'm afraid I won't reach Cailian Town tonight. I should find somewhere nearby to rest for the night, or the horse won't be able to take it."
The sky gradually darkened, and the fiery sunset illuminated the mountain woods.
"If I remember correctly, there should be an abandoned temple two or three li ahead where I can stay."
The old postman slowed his horse and followed the road according to his memories.
After a long while.
He saw the faint outline of a temple.
Dim firelight flickered within the temple, as though travelers were resting there. The old postman led his horse toward it.
The moment the old postman approached the ruined temple, he caught an indescribably pungent medicinal aroma. He then noticed a slovenly old Daoist inside.
The old Daoist was a little over fifty. His unkempt hair was tied behind his head, and though his frame was thin, he wore a thick robe in the sweltering summer heat.
An alchemy furnace sat over the bonfire before him.
The medicinal aroma came from within the furnace.
What frightened the old postman most was the assortment of large and small earthen jars beside the furnace. More than ten jars swayed faintly, clearly containing living things.
The old postman began to retreat inwardly, and even his horse grew restless.
Before he could leave, he heard the old Daoist mutter, "This humble Daoist is Grandmaster Taiyi of Golden Light Cave on Qianyuan Mountain. Hehehe, old sir, I'm afraid you're facing a bloody disaster."
"Dao... Daoist priest, I..."
The old postman sat on pins and needles as he noticed panting coming from an earthen jar in the corner.
A person!
There was someone in the jar!!
The old postman reined in his horse and turned to leave.
Grandmaster Taiyi let out a string of strange laughter. His gaze fell upon the old postman's right hand as he muttered something incomprehensible, sending chills down the spine.
The old postman rode off into the night, while the bonfire in the temple flared higher.
Grandmaster Taiyi stroked his beard and stared at the earthen jar making the greatest commotion.
"Disciple, disciple~~"
The voice poured into the jar, and the panting inside grew more violent. By the firelight, one could vaguely make out a child of eleven or twelve within.
Yang He jolted awake, and the Ghost Eye on his forehead opened in response.
Yang He saw at once the Daoist acolyte's situation.
Grandmaster Taiyi slapped his thigh in satisfaction. "Not bad, not bad! Born with Spirit Eyes. I thought you were just an ordinary little beggar!"
Yang He felt around his body and discovered that the Daoist acolyte's right foot was somewhat crippled. He then found the Great Replenishing Pill he had brought from the Main World in his clothes.
"Grandmaster Taiyi?"
He studied the old Daoist outside, finding the whole thing utterly absurd.
Grandmaster Taiyi was one of the Twelve Golden Immortals of the Chan Sect, a disciple of the Venerable Lord of Primordial Beginning. His very title, Taiyi, was enough to show his lofty status.
Forget Immortal Qi—even ordinary Daoists were not this wretched. Moreover, according to the Ghost Eye's feedback, the old Daoist was far less threatening than Nezha.
"Disciple, tell me your name."
"Yang He."
"He means completeness, yet you're a cripple. Hehehe, interesting."
Grandmaster Taiyi laughed heartily, his manner exaggerated and bizarre.
"While waiting for you to wake up, this old Daoist also refined a furnace of Living Spirit Water. Perhaps I can create a few more spirit beasts for a snack."
Grandmaster Taiyi lifted the lid of the alchemy furnace. Blood-red medicinal liquid churned within, bubbles constantly rising amid harrowing wails.
"Go."
The medicinal liquid fell into each earthen jar, with Yang He the sole exception.
Yang He heard sizzling sounds. Only then did he realize that all the living creatures he had brought with him had been imprisoned in the earthen jars.
Before long, every jar had stopped moving.
Grandmaster Taiyi leaned close to Yang He. "Your master has come to revive your senior brother. I need the aid of a Daoist acolyte born on a yin year and yin day. If all goes well, your life will be safe as well."
Yang He raised an eyebrow. Sure enough, it was for Nezha's resurrection.
"Disciple, you possess Spirit Eyes but lack a cultivation method. If you are willing, I can help complete your lineage and even teach you the Great Dao of Qianyuan Mountain."
"Master."
Yang He no longer hesitated. Grandmaster Taiyi's promises were merely bait for his life, and in any case, he would surely have achieved his goal before Yang He died.
"Good, good, good!"
Grandmaster Taiyi lifted the alchemy furnace with both hands, and a third arm extended from his chest.
The arm was shriveled and withered, its skin covered in veins. It did not resemble a human hand at all.
"This is the true inheritance method of Qianyuan Mountain: the Three-Headed, Six-Armed Dharma Body."
Ghostly Path of Power (Aberrant) Once mastered, Force Ghosts become additional arms. Those born aberrant must regularly sever the blood vessels and meridians of their third arm; those made aberrant later must sever the arm every hundred days and refine it anew.
