Background / History

Nezha was the third son of Li Jing and Madam Yin. As the reincarnation of half of the Spirit Pearl from Jade Void Palace, he was destined to become a major Chan Sect figure; the other half eventually gained sentience as Yang He after absorbing Innate Corpse Qi. 300

Before the Ghost Lotus events, Nezha killed Ao Bing and tore out his dragon tendons. He subsequently died to atone for the incident. Grandmaster Taiyi initially intended to restore him through worship of a divine statue, but Li Jing destroyed the statue, forcing Taiyi to prepare a lotus-root-based flesh body instead. 6

During the Ghost Lotus lore, Nezha's supposed coffin terrorized Cailian Town. His unborn presence drained the yang energy of nearby people, while his Chaos Tunic could bind victims so tightly that even Yang He struggled to escape. 7 The coffin was ultimately a misdirection: Nezha's true resurrection occurred in Qing Lake, where his massive lotus-root-armed body lay at the lake bottom. 35

Nezha later emerged still connected to Madam Yin by an umbilical cord and lacking fully developed spiritual intelligence. Grandmaster Taiyi entrusted him to Yang He, establishing their senior-junior relationship. 84

Appearance

Nezha's appearance changes with his resurrection, injuries, and cultivation. His stable form is that of a child, but his combat form manifests three heads and six arms.

Personality

Nezha is playful, impulsive, and intensely battle-hungry. Shortly after his birth, he darts around Yang He out of curiosity despite accidentally causing him painful bruising; he also reacts readily to food, praise, and novelty. 84 107 He dislikes being treated as small or weak and deliberately hovers above others when speaking. 145

His aggression can become extreme when he senses an enemy or injustice. He responds to threats with immediate violence, whether against Sea-Patrolling Yakshas, Dragon Ghosts, or Lu Yue's forces. 105 145 This recklessness is tempered over time: after ascending to the Void Returning Realm, he understands the danger of a prolonged battle at Jiepai Pass and shows greater restraint. 384

Despite his volatility, Nezha is deeply loyal to those he accepts. He worries about Madam Yin, repeatedly searches for Yang He during crises, and defends his junior brother even when Yang He has grown strong enough to protect himself. 103 150 198 Grandmaster Taiyi considers Nezha's disposition dangerously extreme and asks Yang He to help him overcome it. 263

Nezha's awakening turns Cailian Town into a site of mass fear and death. His coffin releases overwhelming yin qi, but Yang He eventually discovers that Nezha's real resurrection is occurring at Qing Lake rather than inside the coffin. 7 35 He is successfully reborn with three heads and six arms. 38

Exquisite Pagoda Imprisonment
