Background
Yang He begins as a cautious cultivator who abandons the dangerous courier identity and enters the “Ghost Lotus” historical anecdote as a Daoist Initiate. Grandmaster Taiyi accepts him as a disciple and offers the Great Dao of Qianyuan Mountain, but Yang He later learns that the Daoist Initiates are effectively replacement bodies prepared for Nezha’s resurrection. This makes him distrustful of Taiyi’s motives from an early stage. 14 22
His first cultivation path is the Pupil Ghost Way. He develops spirit eyes through qi refining, establishes an Acquired-Realm foundation, and adopts the black cat Hei Zi after discovering it survived the Main World’s destruction. 5 15
Yang He repeatedly survives by adapting his body rather than preserving a conventional human state. He becomes half-human and half-ghost while trying to control his Potential Ghost, then develops the Corpse Liberation Immortal Body and eventually identifies the imbalance of his five viscera as the flaw preventing that body’s perfection. 27 40 94
Over time, his played identities become historically real lineages connected to him: the Corpse Daoist Initiate of Qianyuan Mountain, the Immaculate Buddha of Nuwa Palace, the Third Prince of the East Sea Dragon Palace, and the Plague Daoist of Nine Dragon Island. Their resemblance to his true form makes concealment increasingly difficult. 153 154
The Zi Shi Cult recognizes Yang He as Qianyuan Mountain’s Third Ancestor, alongside Grandmaster Taiyi and Nezha. He later refines Qianyuan Mountain into his Myriad Transformations Heaven Dao Field, renames the Zi Shi Cult as Qianyuan Mountain, and appoints Yu Zheng to manage it as a sect for imparting the Dao. 154 412
The Great Si Dynasty Court eventually identifies Yang He as its ancient ancestor. Records credit the Yang Family’s Ten Sons—who called their father an immortal—with teaching the Revival Method three thousand years earlier. Wang Lan and the Great Si court later formally acknowledge Yang He as their ancestor. 305 307
Appearance
Yang He’s ordinary appearance is deliberately understated: he once appears as a pale, frail Daoist Initiate of eleven or twelve, with weak-looking yang fire and a Pupil Ghost aura concealed beneath the surface. As his cultivation deepens, he becomes increasingly inhuman and can alter his body through ghostly, corpse-based, Buddhist, and demonic forms. 64 166
- Pale hair tied with a Daoist hairpin and reddish eyes concealing Dao Rhyme in his Daoist-Initiate appearance. 166
- A vertical Pupil Ghost eye can emerge from his brow. 5 94
- His perfected combat manifestation possesses three heads and six arms; the central head resembles a Corpse Immortal, while the side heads express sorrow and joy. 204
- Later forms incorporate a Ghost Immortal head, Corpse Immortal head, Ghost Buddha head, and eventually a demon aspect. 332 406 490
- His revealed true body is associated with writhing flesh, innumerable eyes, twisted substances, and an appearance that immortals and Buddhas find unbearable to look upon directly. 490 514 568
Personality
Yang He is pragmatic, observant, and intensely survival-oriented. He abandons identities that may expose him, conceals his abnormal cultivation from investigators, and treats Lore World opportunities as resources to be exploited rather than prophecies to obey. 14 94 221
He is willing to be ruthless when threatened or when advancement demands it. He manipulates and kills Ming Yuan through insect eggs, uses enemy remains as cultivation resources, and kills Kasyapa Buddha rather than accept negotiation. 187 233 490
Despite this ruthlessness, Yang He demonstrates enduring loyalty toward those he regards as his own. He helps Chen Qian resume cultivation, saves Yu Zheng at Qianyuan Mountain, protects the mortal realm through his Dao Field, and risks great personal cost to revive Grandmaster Taiyi. 148 406 411
His greatest ambition is not merely personal immortality. After recognizing the collapse of the world’s existing Heavenly Dao, he seeks to make the mortal realm part of Myriad Transformations Heaven and ultimately identifies himself as the Human Ancestor. 406 498 564
Abilities & Skills
Pupil Ghost and Spiritual Vision
Yang He’s earliest and most consistently developed ability is a Pupil Ghost cultivated through the Pupil Ghost Way.
- Detects resentment qi, Yin qi flows, spiritual patterns, hidden auras, and supernatural anomalies. 5 94
- Functions as a spiritual root that communicates with external Yin qi. 5
- Can replace his eyes if his natural vision is completely destroyed. 5
- Each use damages his vision, making overuse dangerous. 5
- Develops into the Triple Heaven Subtle Eye and later the Fiery Eyes Golden Gaze. 62 100 445
Corpse Liberation Immortal Body
Yang He uses corpse-based cultivation to preserve and reconstruct himself beyond ordinary mortality.
- Activated after inheriting the Dao child’s phantom and stabilizing his ghosts. 40
- Requires balanced completion of the five viscera to remove its core flaw. 94
- Integrates foreign remains, including the Drought Dragon’s corpse, to strengthen his immortal body. 198
- Allows him to conceal his abnormality by restoring his yang fire to an ordinary level. 94
Three-Headed, Six-Armed Dharma Body
A Qianyuan Mountain method originally associated with Nezha and taught to Yang He by Grandmaster Taiyi.
- Built through the Ghostly Path of Power’s grafting-based ghost-nurturing method. 15
- Requires the deliberate assembly of extra heads and arms; Yang He is not naturally born with the variant physique. 118
- Reaches a more advanced form after he refines the Immaculate Ghost Buddha’s heads. 222
- Its early use badly injures him, but eventually becomes a routine combat technique. 169 338
- Later becomes limiting because it can only sustain three heads despite his growing number of permanent forms. 406
Manifestation of Heaven and Earth
A divine ability taught by Yang Jian after Yang He’s foundation is damaged.
- Produces a giant Dharma Body with immense physical force. 147
- Combines with the Three-Headed, Six-Armed Dharma Body, creating a form considered more terrifying than Nezha’s equivalent. 155
- Early partial manifestations strain his organs and cause the Descending God Ghost to lose control. 155 169
- Reaches over twenty meters during the Investiture War-era conflicts. 204
- Later supports forms ranging from an optimal four-meter giant to much larger manifestations. 338
Immortal Transformation Art
Yang He’s later signature transformation method, allowing him to integrate and wield the powers of his different bodies and identities.
- Enables deep fusion with permanent characters. 490
- Lets him alter body and soul through the Five-Colored Divine Light. 538
- Allows seamless transitions among ghost, corpse, Buddhist, and demonic forms. 568
- Can manifest the Puppet Immortal form, a gaunt, masked, ten-meter figure with immense oppressive force. 541
Five-Colored Divine Light
A high-level transformative and devouring divine ability.
- Refined into a colorful kasaya using Daoist Cihang’s skin sac. 370
- Draws out the essence of mountains, stone, wood, and other materials to solidify Yang He’s Dharma Form. 543
- Used through Great King Yellow Brow to destroy Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva’s Hell Path foundation. 469
- Supports bodily self-adaptation, including Yang He’s Coral Monster Dragon transformation. 538
Myriad Transformations Heaven Dao Field
Yang He’s Dao Field, formed from his comprehension of the Heavenly Dao’s ceaseless cycle of birth, death, and transformation.
- Houses and supports his cultivation, Yin treasures, permanent characters, and later entire mortal settlements. 387 564
- Its Dao Field can replace or seize other ghost domains, including Lord of Fire Virtue’s domain with Ten Ultimate City. 387
- Expands beyond ordinary immortal Dao Fields and becomes central to his plan to protect the mortal realm. 406 441
- Contains the Myriad Transformations Tree, which manifests his own Heavenly Dao. 549
- Is powerful enough to threaten the Heavenly Court and resist the descent of major Buddhist figures. 549 568
