Still some distance away, Li Wei saw a taxi with its door wide open. The head of an old Black man in the driver's seat had been twisted one hundred and eighty degrees backward, stark white bone fragments jutting out.
In the back seat, a filthy, barefoot girl was straddling another old Black man, her hands clawing wildly, sending up sprays of blood. It was the Mute Wolf Girl he'd been waiting for—Kimiko.
That old Black man had struggled and screamed at first, but within just a few breaths, he went completely still, blood seeping out. He was clearly dead.
Some of the surrounding onlookers were screaming in fear, but more were excitedly taking photos or videos, and a few had even started livestreaming.
Li Wei couldn't help frowning. It wasn't that he pitied the two old Black men, but based on his knowledge of the original story, Kimiko wasn't someone who killed indiscriminately.
If the plot had deviated, he'd need to reconsider his attitude and how to handle her.
But Kimiko's next move quickly made Li Wei realize there was a reason for it.
After killing the two old Black men, Kimiko opened the trunk and released two children whose hands and feet were bound, their mouths gagged, looking like they'd been drugged unconscious.
The crowd that had been watching let out a few startled screams. Two obese American women, forgetting all about the spectacle, ran crying and shouting toward the children.
Seeing this, Kimiko not only stepped back a little but also showed a trace of warmth on her face.
Seizing the moment, Li Wei casually twirled his long staff. A bit of energy shimmered along it, making it glow like an oversized fluorescent stick, and he made his entrance in a very typical superhero pose.
The surrounding crowd burst into cheers and applause, voluntarily stepping back to clear a path for him.
Many were ready to watch a good show. That woman clearly wasn't ordinary—how would this new superhero deal with her?
Kimiko instantly shifted into an attack stance, glaring at Li Wei like a fierce wolf.
She'd been imprisoned for about a year, but she was an adult, not completely clueless about the outside world. She understood exactly what his posture meant.
But Li Wei acted as if he hadn't noticed. He dashed over to Kimiko like the wind, laughing as he tossed a few shopping bags at her. "Great work, Wolf Claw! You did well—no wonder you went undercover for so long!"
"Next, we'll follow the trail and root out more human traffickers. Consider it a gift to America when you officially debut as a superhero!"
"Now go change clothes, take a shower, and enjoy the feast we've prepared for you!"
The moment the words left his mouth, Kimiko was stunned. Wolf Claw? Was that her?
And undercover, human traffickers—she understood each word individually, but together, they made no sense.
Why did this superhero make it sound like she was part of their team?
The crowd was also taken aback, then erupted into even louder cheers. Of course—how could an ordinary person pull off such difficult moves?
That clean neck snap, and the way she'd torn the other old Black man apart barehanded, leaving blood everywhere inside and outside the car. Even now, her bare feet left bloody footprints on the ground.
If she was also a superhero, everything made much more sense!
Immediately, more than a few thrill-seekers rushed toward Kimiko, nearly making her jump out of her skin.
But soon she saw at least twenty or thirty phones and cameras raised high, snapping pictures of her nonstop, followed by a barrage of questions.
"Wolf Claw, can I have your autograph?"
"Wolf Claw, what's your superpower?"
"Wolf Claw, do you have any endorsement deals?"
"Wolf Claw, which state or county will you be responsible for after your official debut?"
Kimiko was even more bewildered. This—this wasn't right! She'd just brutally killed two human traffickers in broad daylight!
And she hadn't even meant to save those two kids. She'd only done it because those same old Black men had drugged and sold her off in the first place!
Why weren't these people afraid at all?
Li Wei chuckled to himself, knowing the immediate problem was solved. In the public's eyes, the danger posed by an ordinary person killing someone versus a superhero doing it was completely different.
Maybe later they'd realize Wolf Claw hadn't debuted as they'd expected, but in a few days, their novelty would wear off, and they'd move on to the next superhero.
For now, the only and biggest issue was making sure Vought didn't catch wind of someone using their name to pull a con.
So he swung his metal staff, making it trail a dazzling halo of light that severely disrupted the clarity of all nearby electronic devices' recordings.
"Please, everyone, quiet down! I understand your excitement, but Wolf Claw and I haven't officially debuted yet. Please understand—we need a more official channel to go public!"
As he spoke, Li Wei casually took Kimiko's hand.
Kimiko startled and struggled with all her might, only to be shocked to find her efforts as futile as an ant trying to shake a tree—completely useless!
Li Wei chuckled, fending off the surrounding crowd while leaning in to whisper so only she could hear.
"I mean you no harm. If you don't want to get caught and locked up again, follow my lead. Don't draw the enemy's attention."
With that, Li Wei used his staff to pick up the shopping bags from the ground and gestured for Kimiko to take them.
Faced with this situation, what else could Kimiko do?
She wasn't crazy or stupid. She could see that everything he was doing was to help her. Since she couldn't break free, she just closed her eyes and accepted it.
And honestly, the clothes not only fit her perfectly but were also beautiful. She'd never worn anything this nice before.
Watching Kimiko obediently take the clothes, Li Wei nodded in satisfaction. He'd felt her struggle—roughly a ton of force.
For an ordinary person, that was terrifying strength. How hard did Mike Tyson punch?
Add in her technique and fist size, a hit from her would be like being rammed by a car going dozens of kilometers per hour. An average person couldn't take more than a few blows.
But for Li Wei as he was now, it really wasn't much.
Kimiko's greatest trait was her incredible healing factor. Even if her brain was blown apart, her neck snapped, or her leg sawed off, she could repair the damage at a visible rate.
In comparison, her other aspects were rather unremarkable—basically on par with a third-rate superhero, roughly equal to The Mesmerizer, though maybe her defense was slightly better?
According to the original plot, after A-Train found her, he slammed her head into a wall for a good while, and aside from seeming a bit dizzy, she came out largely unscathed on the surface.
Of course, it was also possible her brain had been shaken into mush, only for her healing factor to save her again.
It wasn't until later, when Soldier Boy hit her with an energy blast that temporarily nullified her powers, that she became a complete glass cannon with nothing but her healing ability left—almost anyone could hurt her and make her bleed.
This made her a bully in the story: a massacre against ordinary people, but whenever she faced other supers, she'd end up beaten black and blue, her face covered in blood, which really showcased her healing to the fullest.
But from the system's perspective, even at her peak, her defense wasn't impressive—at least far below Starlight's, and it didn't even register in the system.
And it was a bit of a shame that her fighting skills were probably on the same level as The Mesmerizer's, so the system didn't display those either.
This made Li Wei notice the system's shortcomings. Even if The Mesmerizer and Kimiko had the same level of combat skill, their preferences and specialties were definitely different—how could they be lumped together?
If he could acquire both, practice them, and refine the best parts, he could surely elevate his own techniques. Unfortunately, the system couldn't do that yet.
Maybe, in its view, superpowers were far more valuable than mere skills, so it focused on abilities?
Codename: Kimiko
Type: Physique-based
Special Ability 1: Super Healing—regardless of the injury sustained, no matter which body part is critically damaged, and whether or not death occurs, as long as the body's overall integrity exceeds 30%, super-speed healing can be achieved. The exact healing speed depends on overall physical condition and energy reserves.
Lost body parts will no longer retain vitality, healing ability, or other special traits.
Death caused by natural lifespan expiration cannot be revived.
If there is no energy available for healing, continuous recovery may come at the cost of permanently reduced strength, physique, agility, defense, and lifespan.
If energy is sufficient, the healing speed may further accelerate.
Can be fully replicated, estimated to require 160 minutes of continuous contact.
After reading the system's description, Li Wei found it reasonable. It roughly explained why Kimiko became more fragile as the story progressed.
She had no energy at all—she was basically draining her own body to heal.
And after being blasted by Soldier Boy, she became even more brittle.
Even so, the effect of being able to super-speed heal regardless of death was still absurdly powerful.
For Li Wei, if he could get Super Healing, combined with Starlight's Super Defense and his own energy, unless he was reduced to ash in one hit, he might even be able to hold his own against Homelander for a bit, right?
But Homelander had Heat Vision as a ranged attack and could fly at supersonic speeds, with near-maximum mobility—things Li Wei couldn't do at all yet. Better to keep lying low for a while longer!
