Kate's Superpowers

As they walked and chatted about some of his experiences as a superhero, prompting a string of exclamations from the younger students as well as onlookers and photos from other students on campus, the female principal and the professors soon tactfully said that they still had classes to teach and needed to get back to work.

They did not yet know why Li Wei had returned, but whatever he wanted to do, he most likely neither needed nor wanted the two of them tagging along.

Besides, Mr. Edgar had assigned them a very special task, one that absolutely could not be discussed in front of these students.

By the way, they also had Li Wei pick a guide. Goda University had undergone quite a few changes since he graduated.

But in truth, they all hoped one of the students could get on Li Wei's good side in advance.

Being a superhero was not just about fighting and killing. Having a powerful circle of friends was also extremely important. This was the perfect opportunity, and they could not let it go to waste.

Naturally, Goda University's top students understood this as well. Aside from Golden Boy, whose personal strength was exceptional, and Ten-Magnet King, whose father was a superhero, neither of whom cared all that much, everyone else—male, female, or neither—stared at Li Wei with burning eyes.

Without any hesitation, amid the disappointed, jealous, and unwilling looks of the other students, Li Wei ultimately chose the blonde beauty, Kate.

Compared to everyone else present, she might not have been the strongest or had the greatest potential, but she was undoubtedly the one Li Wei most wanted to get intimate with!

Then Li Wei sharply noticed that Golden Boy and Ten-Magnet King, who had not seemed particularly concerned before, both showed slight changes in expression. That immediately made things interesting.

Were they both Kate's suitors, or her fuck buddies?

Soon, everyone dispersed, and Li Wei sent Firecracker away as well.

But that was unimportant. What mattered was that, through their close contact, Li Wei had not smelled any other man or woman on Kate. At least not within the past week.

Instead, he caught her own scent, from around an hour ago.

It seemed that before preparing to welcome him, she had given her little garden some proper comfort.

Afterward, she had bathed carefully and sprayed on plenty of perfume, but she still could not hide it from Li Wei, whose strength was steadily growing.

Li Wei found it a little strange. Kate looked so quiet and reserved on the surface, and with her face and figure, she certainly would not lack male companions. Yet she played by herself in private?

Still, he could understand it somewhat. Kate's superpower could be considered a lesser version of Professor X's. She could hear the thoughts of everyone within a certain range.

Although the female principal had later provided her with a special drug that temporarily blocked this ability, once she made physical contact with someone, she would still inevitably hear their innermost thoughts.

That was hardly a good thing for her. Many people who looked dignified and respectable on the surface could be exceptionally dark and evil inside.

What was more, she posed a potential threat to the other students and teachers at the school.

No one wanted an accidental brush of contact to let Kate discover some secret hidden in their heart.

That was why she wore gloves on both hands and kept every other part of her body tightly covered as well, with only her pretty face exposed.

After chatting casually for a while, Li Wei learned that she admired three superheroes: Soldier Boy, Homelander, and Angel.

Adding himself was merely politeness, Li Wei thought, but the first two were probably genuine.

Though he knew they were both bastards, their public image was at least excellent, and Vought had done plenty of packaging for them.

Take Soldier Boy, for example. Vought had credited him with a whole pile of "achievements," even claiming that he had participated in major and pivotal battles such as the Normandy landings.

In reality, Li Wei knew it was all nonsense. The "Soldier" in Soldier Boy was merely a persona. He had never even been part of the U.S. military.

And as Vought's most expensive "product" at the time, how could Vought possibly have let him risk his life on a battlefield?

Leaving aside the possibility that Germany or another country might capture him, if he lost his mind on the battlefield, it would have been an indiscriminate massacre.

But that did not stop Li Wei from following Kate's lead and praising Soldier Boy a little. It was not like it cost him anything.

That obviously increased Kate's fondness for him considerably. Her eyes practically looked ready to sparkle with little stars.

After wandering around for a while longer, when they reached a relatively secluded corner, Li Wei looked at Kate's hands.

Even in the sweltering summer heat, they were wrapped in airtight leather gloves, and the stuffiness had inevitably made her sweat a little.

Superheroes were generally enhanced in every aspect, including their resistance to cold and heat, but Kate did not seem especially impressive in that regard.

"Kate, I heard you can read minds?"

Kate smiled and nodded. "Yes."

But while others envied and coveted that superpower, she did not see it as God's gift, but rather as a curse.

When her power first awakened, completely unaware of what was happening, she had given her younger brother—who was at that especially annoying age—a suggestion, telling him to go farther away and give her some peace and quiet.

Then he had walked into the great forest and never appeared again.

Just as Kate's heart sank into loneliness, Li Wei naturally took one of her hands and placed it against his chest.

While they had been walking around earlier, his excessively flashy battle suit had drawn too much attention, so he had already put it away.

Now, he wore only a short-sleeved shirt on his upper body. Even through her glove, Kate could still feel his pectoral muscles.

That immediately jolted Kate awake from her memories. Angel was handsome and perfectly suited her tastes and preferences in a partner, and given his identity and status, she did not mind something happening between them.

But who came on so directly? They had known each other for less than an hour.

At this rate, she had no idea how much might happen between them by nightfall!

Before she could decide whether to say something first or pull her hand back, she heard Li Wei say with a smile, "Then why not try listening to mine?"

As he spoke, Li Wei slowly yet firmly removed her glove.

He dared to be so bold because he had already seen through the superpowers she possessed!

Special Ability 5: Kate's Fantasy Space. Through tactile contact, can project a target's consciousness into a special Fantasy Space. The target's superpowers will be weakened or erased, while Kate herself remains unaffected.

Kate can relatively freely create, alter, or destroy the Fantasy Space. If another target's consciousness is killed within the Fantasy Space, their body in the real world will become a vegetative body without consciousness.

If her ability is insufficient when using it, she may suffer serious harm herself, even experiencing symptoms such as epilepsy.

Kate possessed several psychic or mental abilities, all of them beginner-level. Li Wei had previously obtained an intermediate Mental Barrier from Sivler Kincaid, so he did not believe Kate could read his mind!

As for that Fantasy Space, Li Wei could not fully copy it. The system had not explained why, and he vaguely felt it might involve some kind of special talent.

Kate was instantly startled. She hurriedly clenched her fist to stop him. "No, wait, Angel. I can't casually listen to other people's thoughts."

Li Wei did not mind. He merely looked at her with gentle affection. "Just call me Li Wei. This isn't casual, of course. You have my permission."

"Don't you want to know why I suddenly returned to Goda University, and why I chose you alone as my guide?"

"Why?"

Kate's heart immediately began pounding. She had guessed his implication, but alongside her delight, she found it hard to believe.

She had only enrolled after he graduated. Logically speaking, the two of them should not have had any connection at all.

Yet instinctively, her little fist had already loosened slightly. And for some reason, she suddenly felt that what he was taking off was not her glove, but something else!

Li Wei took the opportunity to pull her closer, until their breaths could easily brush against each other's faces. "Then why not find the answer yourself?"

With a swish, Li Wei cleanly tore off her glove and placed Kate's small hand over his heart.

Kate felt her heart race as never before, and her lower body seemed faintly damp. Unable to help herself, she slightly pressed her thighs together.

But she still focused all her attention, intending to see what Li Wei was thinking at that moment.

If he met her expectations—no, even if he only met eighty percent of them—she intended to half-heartedly accept his confession.

As New Jersey's Guardian, Angel was absolutely worth having.

The next instant, Kate's eyes widened.

She felt nothing. It was as though an endless starry sky stood before her. Since gaining her superpowers, this was the first time it had ever happened!

Rather than making her feel any fear or discomfort, it filled her heart and face with delight.

She did not want a boyfriend whose every thought she could see at all times. That kind of life would be far too dull and boring. This was one of the reasons she had never accepted Golden Boy or Andre.

But now, she had an even better choice. Li Wei was not only stronger and of higher status, but he was also completely unaffected by her superpowers.

Li Wei smiled faintly. "My dear Kate, do you understand now? Perhaps we're the most suitable pair after all."

Those words were like a catalyst, instantly igniting all of Kate's passion. She wrapped her arms around Li Wei's neck and brought her face close. "Don't talk. Kiss me!"
