Background / History
The Flowing Cloud Sect is the nominal ruler of the Chu Kingdom and its surrounding territory. Its mountain gate stands at the region’s spiritual-energy-rich center, while markets such as Green Stone Market fall within its outer sphere of influence. The sect’s protection enables rogue cultivators to live and trade under its authority. 7
It possesses Golden Core Ancestors, numerous disciples, and extensive regional influence. Its rule is challenged primarily by the northern Blood Fiend Cult, whose infiltration, attacks, and support for hostile forces repeatedly destabilize border territories. 7 40
Following the Blood Fiend Cult’s destruction of Black Mountain Hollow and attacks on affiliated settlements, the sect ordered its markets to reinforce their defenses and increased patrols. 7 Qingshi Market was later abandoned after a major attack, and sect disciples helped evacuate survivors to Falling Cloud City. 34
The sect accepts and employs skilled cultivators beyond its formal disciple ranks. Li Chengjie became an external alchemist through Steward Zhou, receiving the protection associated with sect affiliation while remaining tied to the Qingshi Market stronghold. 21

The main headquarters lies within a vast mountain range filled with dense spiritual energy. Its peaks contain palaces, pavilions, ancient trees, spiritual mist, and artifact-flying disciples; a colossal protective formation covers the main peak. 69

Relationship with the Righteous Path Alliance
The Righteous Path Alliance was established by the Flowing Cloud Sect to address external threats and consolidate internal strength. The sect acts as the Alliance’s dominant local power, while allied sects and families generally accept its authority in return for protection and access to opportunities. 40 133
During the Cloud Fiend Secret Realm’s opening, the sect claimed the right to lead exploration because the Righteous Path Alliance discovered the site first. It permitted allied forces, smaller families, and rogue cultivators to enter despite the danger. 84
Cloud Fiend Secret Realm
The sect and the Blood Fiend Cult fought for control of the newly discovered Cloud Fiend Secret Realm before reaching a temporary accord. Entry was restricted to Qi Refining cultivators under sixty years of bone age. 70
Hu Yixin personally supervised the expedition, demonstrating the sect’s commitment to securing the secret realm’s resources. 83 84
After the expedition, the sect imposed a 30% levy on all entrants’ harvests. Spirit stones above 20,000 low-grade stones, more than three magic tools, and other valuable items were counted toward the assessment. 133
- Thirty Foundation Establishment Elders and deacon disciples managed inspections and handovers. 133
- Sect disciples were processed first, followed by allied cultivators and rogue cultivators. 133
- The levy was justified as payment for the sect’s resources, order maintenance, and protection. 133
- The sect gained at least thirty-six Essence Condensing Fruits, a key Foundation Establishment Pill ingredient, from the expedition. 143
Conflict with the Blood Fiend Cult
The Blood Fiend Cult is the sect’s principal demonic-path rival. Their conflict spans border raids, secret-realm competition, market warfare, and major campaigns across the Chu Kingdom. 40 70 84
After suffering severe pressure and losses, the sect launched a counteroffensive led by six Golden Core Ancestors, plundering Blood Fiend Cult resources, strongholds, and markets. 223 It later prepared a decisive assault on Ten Thousand Skeletons Mountain, relying on the possibility of Hu Qingling’s late-Golden-Core breakthrough and Meng Yaofan’s weakened condition. 286
The war also exposed internal instability:
- Some disciples plotted against fellow sect members for wealth during the Cloud Fiend Secret Realm. 88 97
- Wartime defeat and Blood Fiend Cult counterattacks forced retreats from Black Stone Valley and threatened the sect homeland. 268
- Following Hu Haihan’s death, some Foundation Establishment cultivators considered fleeing the Chu Kingdom. 310
- Disciples left behind during the evacuation became refugees and later concealed their sect identity while traveling in the Star Luo Kingdom. 324 326
Later Developments
Despite being besieged by the Blood Fiend Cult for three years, the sect continued to hold its annual Sacrificial Ceremony, hanging red lanterns across its mountain range and ringing nine ceremonial bells for past patriarchs and the sect’s prosperity. 472
Li Chengjie later returned to the sect, killed Golden Core cultivators Wang Zhen and Zhao Qiyuan, and was received by Sect Master Li Qinglin as a Grand Elder. Tens of thousands of disciples and the sect’s Grand Elders acknowledged his authority. 475
When Li Chengjie began forming his Nascent Soul, Zhao Changpeng proposed seizing his Dao Yuan. Hu Qingling rejected the proposal, judging that the sect should instead offer congratulations and accept the new balance of power. 491
By the time Ji Wuchen of the Primordial Beginning Hall arrived, Hu Qingling submitted to the stronger cultivator’s demands, prioritizing the sect’s continued survival over the protection of its female disciples. 585
