Background / History

Foundation and influence

Medicine King Valley had endured for over 4,800 years, with generations of Golden Core cultivators preserving its lineage. At its height, five peak Golden Core cultivators safeguarded the valley; even during weaker eras, it retained at least two. 438

The valley established itself through the Dao of Alchemy rather than territorial conquest. It was known to contain alchemists capable of refining pills useful for Nascent Soul condensation, while its pill production gave it relationships extending across Star Luo Kingdom and into neighboring states. 173

Its core inheritance, the Medicine King Pill Scripture, specialized in spirit-herb alchemy and fire control. Through this inheritance, accumulated expertise, and a network built over more than four millennia, the valley controlled nearly half of Star Luo Kingdom’s high-level pill supply. 409

Recruitment and control of alchemists

Medicine King Valley recruited children with spiritual roots annually and conducted recruitment for established rogue-cultivator alchemists every ten years. 340

Rogue alchemists underwent identity verification through a Heart Probing Jade Slip, followed by an alchemy examination. Candidates who could refine at least three low-grade second-tier Spirit Recovery Pills within two hours were qualified to become valley alchemists. 341

The recruitment system served three purposes:

  • It acquired trained second-tier alchemists without spending decades cultivating them from the Qi Refining stage. 341
  • It collected and absorbed alchemy methods from cultivators of different regions, including the Chu Kingdom’s Core Condensation Method. 341
  • It bound a large share of Star Luo Kingdom’s second-tier and higher alchemists to the valley, giving it indirect control over the realm’s alchemy resources. 341

Li Chengjie registered under the false identity Lin Zichao, claiming to be a rogue cultivator from the Chu Kingdom. He passed the Heart Probing Jade Slip examination and refined five Spirit Recovery Pills during the formal assessment; Medicine King Valley later regarded his presence as an infiltration. 340 341 355

Appearance

Medicine King Valley occupied a lush, spirit-mist-covered mountain range. Several towering peaks held pavilions and towers, while a massive stone at the mountain gate bore the valley’s name. 578

  • The mountain range was enclosed by a Third-Tier Top-Grade Defensive Great Formation. 578
  • Its Spirit Medicine Market was one of Star Luo Kingdom’s two major markets, filled with spirit-herb, pill, and alchemical-furnace shops. 340
  • Many businesses displayed signs such as “Medicine King Valley Special Supply” and “Personally Crafted by Valley Alchemists.” 340
  • The Hall of Longevity housed soul lamps for important elders and disciples, allowing the valley to detect injuries and deaths among its members. 387

Abilities & Resources

Dao of Alchemy

Medicine King Valley’s primary strength was its ability to refine, distribute, and monopolize valuable pills.

  • Produced strategic cultivation resources sought by every major faction. 173
  • Refined pills for healing, detoxification, recovery, cultivation breakthroughs, and other specialized purposes. 322 387
  • Its senior alchemists possessed advanced fire-control knowledge, including the four principles of Warm, Nurture, Refine, and Transform. 342
  • Retained extensive pill recipes, spirit-herb cultivation records, and alchemical-fire techniques. 387

Political influence

The valley’s pill supply created dependence among other Star Luo Kingdom powers.

  • The Chen Family relied on special pills from Medicine King Valley to support its primary cultivation techniques. 412
  • Heavenly Sword Pavilion’s disciples depended on its pills during dangerous trials, while its Pavilion Master owed Valley Master Ling a major favor. 412
  • Thick Earth Gate cooperated deeply with the valley and depended on its pill supply. 412
  • The Jin Family was a longstanding rival, particularly over herb supply and spiritual-medicine production sites. 412

Military mobilization

Although publicly aloof from conflict, Medicine King Valley could assemble substantial forces when its authority was challenged.

  • After Ling Lanyan’s death, Wang Chengzhi formed a core force of eight Golden Core cultivators and 200 Foundation Establishment elites. 413
  • It joined with the Liu Family, Chen Family, Heavenly Sword Pavilion, and Thick Earth Gate in the Five Family Alliance. 412 415
  • The alliance eventually fielded fourteen Golden Core cultivators and nearly 900 Foundation Establishment elites against Li Chengjie. 421

Notable Items

  • Measuring Heaven Ruler — The valley-protecting Spirit Treasure, retained by Medicine King Valley for 4,000 years. It could judge and suppress the effective power of opponents’ artifacts to roughly seventy percent. Li Chengjie seized it after defeating Ling Lanyan. 404 415 429
  • Crimson Cloud Cauldron — Ling Lanyan’s top-tier medicine cauldron, capable of producing spiritualized pill clouds that dissolved five-element spiritual power. 403 404
  • Medicine King Pill Scripture — The valley’s comprehensive core alchemy inheritance. 409
  • Hundred Herbs Scripture — An inheritance recording the properties, incompatibilities, and cultivation requirements of 3,000 spirit herbs. 342
  • Third-Tier Top-Grade Defensive Great Formation — The formation surrounding the valley’s mountain range; Li Chengjie shattered it with a single strike. 578 579

Known Leadership

Story Role / Major Arcs

Li Chengjie’s attempted entry

Li Chengjie initially viewed Medicine King Valley as an ideal foothold in Star Luo Kingdom: its lack of prejudice toward cultivation attributes, access to resources, and influence over alchemists would support both his cultivation and his Dao of Alchemy. 337

Disguised as Lin Zichao, he entered its recruitment process at Spirit Medicine Market and passed the formal assessment. His displayed Chu Kingdom alchemy method attracted attention, while the valley’s later investigation identified him as a suspicious infiltrator. 340 341 355

Pursuit and loss of the Measuring Heaven Ruler

After Yang Zhaohui’s pursuit ended in his death, Valley Master Ling Lanyan offered a Golden Core Pill bounty for information on the killer and sought cooperation with the Liu Family. 387

Ling Lanyan and Yi Shenming then confronted Li Chengjie directly. During the battle, Li Chengjie acquired the Measuring Heaven Ruler, stripping Medicine King Valley of its most important Spirit Treasure and killing Ling Lanyan. 403 404 412 415

Five Family Alliance campaign

Under Acting Valley Master Wang Chengzhi, Medicine King Valley framed Li Chengjie as a foreign fiend and issued the Star Luo Kingdom Joint Extermination Edict Against the Foreign Fiend Li Chengjie. 412

The Five Family Alliance rushed to Azure Wave Market in an effort to destroy Li Chengjie before the Jin Family alliance could intervene. Its force was ultimately broken apart during the battle, and Li Chengjie killed Wang Chengzhi, Elder Yu Ding, Elder Sun, Elder Zhao, Elder Qian, Elder Zhou, and Elder Wu. 419 421 431 432

The defeat devastated Medicine King Valley’s Golden Core strength. Gu Song was left as its only peak Golden Core cultivator, and the valley feared Li Chengjie’s inevitable return. 438

Final stand and annihilation

Ancient Pine attempted Nascent Soul formation because he believed the valley could not survive with only peak Golden Core strength. He instructed Yang Nianling to preserve the inheritance by fleeing to Dong Hua Kingdom if the attempt failed. 453

Ancient Pine succeeded and used his new status to pressure the Jin Family, but Li Chengjie returned five years later as a Nascent Soul Late Stage cultivator. 578 579 580

Li Chengjie broke the valley’s defensive formation, killed Ancient Pine in one sword strike, sealed his Nascent Soul in a jade bottle, and exterminated Medicine King Valley cultivators above the Qi Refining stage. 579 581
