"Looks like Tang Wulin has arrived."
Nan Fusheng did not stop cultivating. He had no plans to seek out Tang Wulin. They were in the same class anyway, so Tang Wulin should take the time to get to know his roommates.
Cultivation interlude...
At dawn, when the first ray of sunlight streamed through the window, Nan Fusheng opened his eyes.
After meditating for nearly a full day and night, he felt refreshed and energized. With three "power banks" as well, his Soul Power seemed to have improved slightly. After reaching level ten, the speed at which his Soul Power increased had clearly quickened somewhat. However, the Soul Power required to advance was undoubtedly greater as well. This would require steady accumulation over time.
After washing up with his three power banks, Nan Fusheng headed straight for the academy cafeteria. On the way there, he heard passing students discussing things like, "Have you heard? There's a super Big Eater at the academy," or rumors about some legendary rice bucket.
The Intermediate Division cafeteria was in a small building beside the Main Teaching Building. The building had three floors, serving the Intermediate Division's six grades. Grades One and Two ate on the first floor.
There were only tables in the cafeteria, no chairs. This was Eastsea Academy's rule: students had to eat standing up, to heighten their sense of urgency. Nan Fusheng could not help but grumble, What kind of Shrek rule is this?
Nan Fusheng had not arrived especially early, and quite a few students were already eating in the cafeteria. There were three serving windows, marked Meal A, Meal B, and Meal C. Meal A was entirely paid, and naturally used the best Ingredients. Meal B required partial payment, while Meal C was completely free.
He took Wang Ba and the other two directly to the Meal B window.
Breakfast was plentiful: milk, eggs, Sausage, bread, and vegetables.
Nan Fusheng took some of everything with the three of them. After paying, they found a corner and began eating. Some of Meal B's Ingredients came from captive-bred Soul Beasts. Though its nutritional value was not as high as Meal A's, it was still better than Meal C, which used only ordinary Ingredients.
Nan Fusheng was not short on money. Before leaving Aolai City, he had discussed selling his family's house with the city's law enforcement officers. Although they initially declined tactfully with remarks like, "You're still too young," he ultimately persuaded them to sell the house in Aolai City.
He happily gained more than 1.2 million Federal Coins. Together with the thousand Federal Coins the government subsidized Spirit Masters every month, he could easily afford Meal B. As for Meal A, he would settle for having it once or twice now and then.
After breakfast, Nan Fusheng sat in the cafeteria and waited quietly for the Opening Ceremony.
By midmorning, the Opening Ceremony began.
The ceremony was held in Eastsea Academy's enormous plaza. This was the only time each year that everyone from the Advanced Division and Intermediate Division gathered together.
"Hello, students. Today is the annual Opening Ceremony. Now, let us welcome Dean Yu to give a speech."
Eastsea Academy's dean was an elderly man who looked to be in his sixties. He was of average build and unremarkable in appearance, with graying hair, glasses, and a scholarly air about him.
"Hello, students. Every year at this time, I feel somewhat emotional. This is because a group of students from the Intermediate Division and Advanced Division graduate and leave the academy. But at the same time, some students advance from the Intermediate Division to the Advanced Division, and new students join us as well."
"In my view, an academy is like the Federation's blood-producing institution, continuously supplying the Federation with qualified talent. In the future, I hope that you can also..."
Standing among the new students, Nan Fusheng patiently listened to the dean's lengthy speech.
The dean was very eloquent and had no script. He spoke with great emotion, going on for a full fifteen minutes before gradually wrapping up.
After the dean's speech came the most important part of the Opening Ceremony: class assignments.
Students who did not need to participate in the assignments left first. The new Advanced Division students went to the Advanced Division campus to be assigned classes, leaving only the Grade One students of the Intermediate Division behind.
"Next are the class assignments. As everyone knows, at Eastsea Academy, the lower the class number, the more outstanding the students it represents. However, this is not absolute. We hope that the lower-ranked classes can also strive to catch up. There are a total of one hundred and eight new students this year, divided into five classes. When I call your name, step forward and join Class One..."
"Tang Wulin, Zhou Changxi, Xie Xie, Yun Xiao, Nan Fusheng..." When Class Five was assigned, Nan Fusheng's name was called. This did not surprise him much. Although he claimed that his Martial Soul had mutated, he had only changed its name. So far, he had not displayed anything particularly impressive, so being assigned to Class Five was perfectly normal.
Not only was Nan Fusheng assigned to Class Five, but his three roommates, including Wang Ba, were assigned there as well. After all, their Soul Power was only level eleven, and their Martial Souls were not particularly powerful. When Tang Wulin heard Nan Fusheng's name, however, surprise and delight appeared on his face.
Class Five had only twenty students, the fewest among the five classes. Most of the students assigned there looked dispirited and listless.
"Each homeroom teacher, take your students back to their classrooms and familiarize them with the academy."
Five teachers emerged, and one of them headed toward Class Five.
This teacher looked to be around twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old. He stood over 1.9 meters tall, with long arms and a narrow waist, and long legs clad in white pants. He appeared somewhat lean, but his eyes were bright and piercing. His nose was high, his lips thin but well-shaped, and his entire bearing was exceptionally upright. Long hair flowed down his back, and when the wind blew, they could vaguely see that his lake-blue hair reached all the way to his waist.
His eyes were dark green, matching his blue hair and lending him an unusual air. His face was expressionless, and his gaze was cold.
When the Class Five students saw him, they could not help but stare.
Then a female Class Five student cried out softly, "Teacher, you're so handsome!"
"Follow me!" The young teacher uttered only three simple words, yet every student felt a chill run through them. It was a chill from the depths of their hearts, that feeling...
Wu Changkong? As expected of a Spirit Emperor from Shrek Academy. I wonder whether I could deeply parasitize him now?
Nan Fusheng thought to himself, but after considering it, he dismissed the suicidal idea. He should find someone else to experiment on first.
Class Five's classroom was on the first floor, at the very end of the corridor, making it the farthest walk.
The classroom had thirty sets of desks and chairs, with the lectern at the front.
"Take your seats." The young teacher said coldly. Every time he spoke, the same feeling arose: so cold!
Nan Fusheng casually chose a seat near the back. After seeing his choice, Wang Ba and the other two instinctively chose seats beside him.
Without realizing it, Wang Ba and the other two had begun to regard Nan Fusheng as their leader. This was also one of the effects of the Time Worm. Although Nan Fusheng had only used Shallow Parasitism on them, they still instinctively felt inclined to obey him. The three of them probably had not realized this yet.
