Background / History
Shrek Academy is based in Shrek City, the continent's largest city. The academy occupies the entirety of the original Shrek City, which was absorbed into its grounds during the city's later expansion; its campus is effectively a city in its own right. The expansion was proposed by Spirit Ice Douluo Huo Yuhao after the founding of the Spirit Pagoda. 128 268
Its recorded heritage is described in two ways. Murals in the Shrek Building cover the two thousand years since the academy's founding, while its reputation, institutional influence, and rivalry with Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy are consistently treated as ten-thousand-year legacies. 130 172
The academy has remained officially neutral in disputes among the three continents. Its political influence is nevertheless considerable: accounts claim that the Federation President visits Shrek City twice yearly to meet its dean, while Federation officials often regard the academy as an autonomous power rather than an ordinary school. 92 304
Over generations, Shrek graduates spread throughout the Federation, entering government departments, military organizations, and other advanced academies. Inner Courtyard graduates rarely leave the academy itself, while Inner Courtyard disciples are widely considered future Battle Armor Masters. 128 306
Campus & Facilities
- Shrek City / Academy grounds — The academy encompasses the original Shrek City; even a high-altitude flying car requires ten minutes to reach the Outer Courtyard gate from elsewhere in the city. 128 268
- Lingbing Plaza — A large Outer Courtyard plaza centered on a fountain and a statue of Huo Yuhao. It was built when the Inner City was designated entirely for academy use. 130
- Shrek Building — The Outer Courtyard's main teaching building, decorated with murals and statues commemorating Inner Courtyard disciples. 130
- Sea God Island — The academy's core area and the location of the Sea God Pavilion. 265
- Golden Tree House — The Sea God Pavilion's headquarters, built against the Golden Ancient Tree on Sea God Island; it was destroyed in the assault on Shrek City. 265 400
- Work-Study Student Dormitory — A deliberately austere dormitory with minimal facilities, where students may share a single room without gender separation. The academy frames these conditions as an imitation of the Sea God's work-study life. 145
Admissions
| Category | Requirement / Capacity | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Recruitment cycle | Every three years | The entrance examination draws elite young Spirit Masters from across the continent. 128 |
| Outer Courtyard | 200 recruits per cycle | Fifty places are reserved for applicants who fail the Inner Courtyard application. 128 |
| Inner Courtyard application | 50 places per term | Applicants who fail may still enter the Outer Courtyard and retain the right to attempt the Inner Courtyard examination later. 128 |
| Inner Courtyard population | Never exceeds 100 students | Every Inner Courtyard student is considered an exceptionally dangerous and capable Spirit Master. 92 |
| Failed applicants | Eligible for direct entry to other Advanced Academies | Merely receiving permission to sit Shrek's assessment is regarded as proof of exceptional talent. 128 |
Education & Culture
Shrek's educational system is built around competition, practical missions, and elimination. Students are pushed to compete against one another, while missions serve as tests of actual ability; failure can result in expulsion. This environment is credited with producing combatants superior to those trained by most Advanced Academies. 38
The academy emphasizes individual strength and self-reliance. Its rules permit students to slack off only if they possess enough strength to avoid elimination, and class selection tournaments use live combat and single-elimination formats. 148 200
Under Yun Ming's influence, Shrek increasingly prioritized personal cultivation, Battle Armor, and individual martial power over soul-tool research. Its Soul Guidance Department stagnated, and defensive soul-guidance shields were largely abandoned in favor of pursuing stronger Battle Armor. 299
Shrek students are intensely attached to the academy's reputation. The institution's ideal of “Shrek glory” inspires loyalty and resilience, but is also described by outsiders and critics as a powerful form of indoctrination. 642 653 723
“Shrek Academy accepts only monsters, never ordinary people!” 839
Governance
| Figure / Body | Position | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Sea God Pavilion | Highest authority of Shrek Academy | Based in the Golden Tree House on Sea God Island; its secluded elders form the academy's deepest reserve of power. 265 |
| Yun Ming | Sea God Pavilion Master | Known as Reach for the Sky Douluo and regarded as the continent's strongest powerhouse during his tenure. 285 399 |
| Long Yeyue | Senior Sea God Pavilion elder | The academy's eldest known member; formerly Deputy Pavilion Master and a key defender of Shrek's honor. 285 |
| Cai Yue'er | Dean and Sea God Pavilion elder | Oversees academy matters and participated in decisions concerning the Sun Moon exchange and Fors Wall's future. 265 268 |
| Wu Changkong | Outer Courtyard teacher | Led surviving Shrek students after the academy's destruction and prepared them to preserve its legacy. 148 530 |
Relationships
- Tang Sect — A longstanding ally. The Tang Sect aided Shrek City during the Holy Spirit Cult attack, supports surviving students with identities and resources, and has historically received at least a quarter of Inner Courtyard graduates. 399 530
- Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy — Shrek's principal academic rival. Their conflict spans ten thousand years, and Sun Moon's World-Shaking Seven Stars project was created specifically to challenge Shrek's dominance. 172 247
- Monster Academy — A Star Luo academy founded according to Shrek's rules. The two academies met in the All-Continent Youth Advanced Spirit Master Elite Tournament final. 323 352 357
- Federation — Shrek is formally neutral but maintains a tense relationship with Federation authorities, who resent its autonomy and the actions of its students in military areas. 267 304 306
- Spirit Pagoda — A major opponent of Shrek's restoration. Spirit Pagoda forces and their allies moved against Shrek supporters, including the sealing of five hundred Shrek students in the Mountain River State Chart. 753 841
- Shrek alumni — The academy's graduates form a far-reaching network across the Federation. Their loyalty remains a major source of Shrek's continuing influence after its destruction. 306 723 839
Story Role / Major Arcs
Skysea Alliance Grand Competition
Shrek sent an Outer Courtyard exhibition team to the Skysea Alliance Grand Competition. The team defeated the previous Youth Division champions in less than a minute despite an age gap of more than five years, publicly reinforcing Shrek's reputation; it was later defeated by the Water Dragon Team. 97 104
Recruitment of a New Generation
Fors Wall entered Shrek City for the academy's entrance assessment and joined the Outer Courtyard under teachers Wu Changkong and Shen Yi, with Cai Yue'er as homeroom teacher. Her exceptional potential drew the attention of multiple Sea God Pavilion elders. 130 148 266
Conflict with Sun Moon Academy
Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy challenged Shrek through exchanges in both combat and forging. Shrek suffered humiliating defeats against Lu Fa, but Fors's victories and the strength of its younger students demonstrated that the academy still possessed extraordinary talent. 259 266 280 285
Star Luo Tournament Victory
Shrek's representative team entered the All-Continent Youth Advanced Spirit Master Elite Tournament. After earning the two-on-two championship, it defeated Monster Academy in the final team battle, with Fors serving as the team's decisive trump card against Long Yue. 351 355 357
Fall of Shrek City
The Holy Spirit Cult launched a surprise bombardment on Shrek City using large numbers of Fixed Soul Guidance Shells. Shrek's powerhouses prevented aerial shells from reaching the city, but the ground assault caused catastrophic casualties. 399
The attack culminated in two Level 12 Fixed Soul Cannon Shells destroying the Golden Tree House, Sea God Pavilion, and Shrek City itself. Yun Ming expended his life to neutralize the remaining destructive force, but Shrek Academy fell. 400
Survival and Reconstruction
More than two hundred surviving students pledged their lives to restoring Shrek. Under Wu Changkong, they underwent military training on Demon Island before plans were made to disperse them across society until they could return as Shrek's future teachers. 530
Yun Ming's later reappearance revived public hopes for reconstruction, drawing renewed support from alumni and former students across the continent. Shrek's surviving force subsequently re-emerged publicly, fielding hundreds of Battle Armor Masters in defense of the academy's name. 723 839
