Wu Changkong, who was watching Class Five run, noticed the girl. His gaze paused on her for a moment. She was not wearing a school uniform, and class had already begun.
"Which class are you from?" Wu Changkong walked over.
Yet the girl's attention seemed to have been drawn elsewhere. Watching Tang Wulin and Nan Fusheng run while dragging Xie Xie along, she seemed quite interested in the three of them wearing Iron Vests.
"I came here to enroll. But they said the registration period had already passed." She raised her head and looked at Wu Changkong.
Wu Changkong frowned. "You're not a student of Eastsea Academy?"
"Not yet, but I hope to study here. Is that possible, Teacher?"
If it had been another teacher, they might have chased her away on the spot. But was Wu Changkong just any other teacher? No.
"This is the Soul Master Academy. If you want to study here, you need to prove yourself." Wu Changkong's voice was cold.
"I can take the test." The girl smiled.
"What is your name?" Wu Changkong asked.
"My name is Gu Yue."
Wu Changkong nodded. "Fine. I'll give you a chance." Then he turned toward the three who were running. "Xie Xie, give your Iron Vest to Tang Wulin and come here."
With Tang Wulin and Nan Fusheng helping him, Xie Xie had recovered somewhat after the past two laps. He stopped, took off his Iron Vest, and handed it to Tang Wulin. "Can you handle wearing another one?"
"It's easier than dragging you along." Tang Wulin casually took the Iron Vest and put it on.
Then Xie Xie watched as the guy sped up again. Nan Fusheng accelerated alongside Tang Wulin as well.
Those two have stamina that's... inhuman!
Panting heavily, Xie Xie made his way to Wu Changkong in the middle of the field. "Teacher Wu."
"Your stamina is far too poor," Wu Changkong said.
Xie Xie protested, "Agility Attack System Battle Spirit Masters only need explosive power and flexibility in an instant. We don't need such strong stamina."
Wu Changkong said disdainfully, "How shallow. Fine, I'll give you an opportunity today. Defeat her, and you won't need to run this morning."
Only then did Xie Xie notice the girl beside Wu Changkong. He sized her up, took a deep breath, and adjusted his Soul Power. "No problem."
"Twenty minutes of rest. The match begins in twenty minutes," Wu Changkong said.
Xie Xie did not waste words. He immediately sat cross-legged on the ground and began meditating to recover. The run had drained quite a bit of both his stamina and Soul Power. Agility Attack System Battle Spirit Masters truly were at a disadvantage in this regard.
Gu Yue did not even glance at him. Her gaze swept across the surroundings, as if she found everything here fascinating.
Wu Changkong looked at her. "Underestimating your opponent is the most foolish thing you can do."
"I'm not underestimating him!" Gu Yue said. Yet the disregard in her eyes seemed to say that he was not even worthy of being underestimated.
Wu Changkong said nothing more and continued watching the other students who were running.
In this kind of physical training, physical strength was undoubtedly the most important factor.
Tang Wulin and Nan Fusheng were at the front. Neither of them was particularly fast, but they were steady. Even with two Iron Vests on, Tang Wulin's pace had not slowed at all.
As for Nan Fusheng, even Wu Changkong had not expected his physical condition to be so good. Was this a trait of children from Aolai City?
As he ran, Tang Wulin kept an eye on the center of the field. He was also curious about where this suddenly appearing girl had come from.
Nan Fusheng noticed that when Tang Wulin looked toward Gu Yue, she seemed to casually glance in Tang Wulin's direction at the same time. Their eyes met, and Gu Yue's gaze suddenly turned sharp. But it quickly calmed again, as though that sharp look had merely been an illusion.
Twenty minutes passed quickly.
Xie Xie sprang to his feet, stretched his body, and was once more full of energy.
Wu Changkong nodded. "Thirty meters apart. Prepare."
The Class Five students running laps all slowed down even more. Everyone was watching the two people in the middle of the field prepare to fight.
Among people their age, Xie Xie was already the second strongest person they had seen. They wondered who would be stronger, him or this unfamiliar girl.
Nan Fusheng and Tang Wulin were also watching the match, but Nan Fusheng knew that Xie Xie could never be Gu Yue's opponent.
Sure enough, ice, fire, earth, wind—Gu Yue bombarded Xie Xie wildly, leaving him unable to get close at all. In the end, Light Element struck him right in the face, and tears streamed down his cheeks.
Even when Wu Changkong declared him the loser, he still refused to accept it.
"You won," Wu Changkong said to Gu Yue.
Xie Xie protested, "Teacher, I didn't lose! My attacks were so dense just now. Her attacks might not have been able to break through them."
Wu Changkong snorted coldly. "A loss is a loss. While you were wildly swinging your daggers around, she had already reached your back."
Gu Yue smiled faintly. Silver light flashed around her body, and she suddenly shifted three meters sideways. Xie Xie stared in shock. What kind of ability was that?
She looked at Wu Changkong. "Teacher, can I enroll now?"
Wu Changkong nodded. "I will keep my promise. However, you first need to tell me your background, as well as what exactly your martial soul is."
Gu Yue took a letter from her clothes. "This is my recommendation letter from my Primary Academy. As for my martial soul, it is... Elementalist."
Elementalist?
Wu Changkong considered himself well-informed, but this was the first time he had ever heard of such a martial soul.
In her battle with Xie Xie, Gu Yue had displayed astonishing talent: ice, fire, earth, wind, light, and space—six elemental abilities.
One had to know that among martial souls, possessing even one element already made someone a top-tier existence. Possessing six at once was simply unimaginable.
Seeing the surprise in his eyes, Gu Yue did not hide anything. "I can control six elements, but my Soul Rings cannot be attached to any one of them.
"Therefore, I can control elemental transformations, but it is difficult for me to make them stronger. My First Soul Skill is called Elemental Tide. It allows my Soul Power to last longer and enhances my control over the elements."
Only after hearing that did Wu Changkong understand.
Sure enough, it was impossible for anyone in this world to possess complete control over every attribute while also being exceptionally strong in each one. She had only one martial soul, not six.
Controlling six elements at once also meant that she could not specialize in any one of them. No element could directly possess a Soul Skill. The abilities she had displayed earlier had all been released through her own control over the elements.
No wonder none of her individual abilities had been particularly strong. She had only managed to suppress Xie Xie through clever application.
Still, even so, this was absolutely a top-tier martial soul, no worse than Twin Martial Souls. Setting aside everything else, she had first used Earth Element to turn the ground into a Swamp and trap Xie Xie, then used Ice Element to freeze the muddy swamp. That already showed the beginnings of combined elemental application. If properly nurtured, she would undoubtedly become an incomparably powerful Soul Master genius in the future.
"Good, I understand," Wu Changkong said. "You are now a member of our class, Grade One Class Five."
"Thank you, Teacher." Gu Yue agreed with a radiant smile.
Wu Changkong's expression turned cold. "Then go run with them. This is mandatory physical training. Xie Xie, you too."
Xie Xie immediately pulled a long face. "Teacher, didn't you say I wouldn't have to run after the fight?"
Wu Changkong snorted. "Did you win?"
"I..." Xie Xie felt bitter and depressed. Wasn't that right? If Nan Fusheng had defeated him before because of that bizarre First Soul Skill, then in his fight against Gu Yue, he had already gone all out and still lost. This girl's martial soul was far too strange—stranger even than his Twin Dragon Daggers.
Gu Yue smiled slightly and did not refuse. She ran directly to the edge of the field and began running with the other Class Five students.
Xie Xie let out a miserable cry and had no choice but to go as well.
Watching their figures, a rare smile appeared on Wu Changkong's cold face. Then he turned and headed toward the Main Teaching Building.
"Why are you wearing iron chains?" Gu Yue's steps were light as she ran. When she reached Tang Wulin's side, she asked curiously.
"I'm training my body! Teacher's requirements for me are probably stricter. You're really amazing," Tang Wulin said.
Gu Yue smiled. "It's not really that amazing. None of my individual elements are powerful; I'm just good at controlling them. All martial souls are the same. As long as you have Soul Power, once you truly understand it and can control it, it will bring you surprises."
Tang Wulin's heart stirred at her words. Control?
"You make it sound easy. Whose martial soul can be controlled in so many ways like yours?" Xie Xie's dismissive voice came from the other side. Without the Iron Vest, and after resting earlier, he was running fairly easily now.
"That's because you still haven't fully understood your own martial soul," Gu Yue said.
Xie Xie refused to accept that. "How do you know I don't understand it?"
"How else would I know? You lost to me."
"I..." Xie Xie now felt so aggrieved that he wanted to smash his head into a wall. Wasn't he supposed to be a genius? Why had he come to this academy, and even ended up in the worst Class Five, only to suffer setback after setback?
First, when he entered the dormitory, he had clashed with Tang Wulin and been thoroughly humiliated. Unwilling to accept it, he had used the power of money to arrange another match with Tang Wulin, only to be humiliated again.
Later, he had finally regained a little of his confidence as a genius by crushing weak opponents during Class Five's internal competition, only to run into Nan Fusheng and be defeated before he could even deal any damage.
Then, during today's long-distance run, he had been bombarded by some girl from who knew where and lost yet again.
Just then, Gu Yue, who was running ahead, turned back and looked at him with a sweet smile. "You seem to be thinking about something bad."
"No, no. Let's hurry up and finish running." Xie Xie felt a chill run through his heart and shook his head quickly. Deep inside, he was utterly miserable. It seemed that he and this Gu Yue were especially incompatible, yet he could not even beat her.
