Chapter 11: "Lamigium"

"Oh."

Standing on a street brimming with exotic charm and taking in the sight before him, Shien finally could not hold back any longer and let out an awed sigh.

There was good reason for him to do so.

By now, Shien had entered the town and stood on the street before its gates.

All around him stood medieval-style buildings of stone and wood.

The streets were filled with people driving carriages, carrying luggage, and dressed in old-fashioned fitted clothing or Greek-style attire.

Stone bricks paved the ground, while roads stretched in every direction. Shops and stalls selling all kinds of goods lined the streets, and the cries of vendors and the clamor of the crowds rose and fell, creating the lively scene of a bustling market. It made Shien feel as though he had returned to ancient times rather than been reincarnated into Another World.

Except for one kind of sight.

Besides the commoners and merchants, there were also people carrying weapons, fully armed, with fierce-looking faces and an air of killing intent.

Some of them were soldiers patrolling the streets, maintaining strict vigilance.

But the majority were people with mismatched equipment, weather-beaten appearances, and sometimes the scent of blood clinging to them. They carried heavy packs into town from outside, or prepared to leave town, clearly looking like they were about to go out and slaughter something.

Their presence told Shien that this was not ancient times, but a genuine Another World.

After all, some among them were even hauling the corpses of enormous monsters, whether to sell them or bury them was unknown.

Thanks to these people, Shien had been able to enter the town so smoothly. Otherwise, given his current appearance, the soldiers guarding the gates might very well have stopped him.

Ten full days of wilderness survival in the forest had left Shien not only ragged, but after his aerial battle with the Griffin, his clothes had become strips of cloth that barely covered his body.

If people who were travel-worn or even covered in injuries had not constantly been entering the town from outside, Shien would very likely have been stopped.

Besides that, it seemed entering the town required a fee.

Before entering, Shien had seen merchants and commoners hand purses and coins over to the gate guards before they were permitted inside.

At the time, Shien had assumed that, penniless as he was, he would not be able to enter the town. Yet the guard merely glanced at him and waved him through.

"Adventurers don't need to pay the entry fee. Go on in."

That was the reason the guard gave.

In other words, he had mistaken Shien for an adventurer.

And these so-called adventurers were probably the people around him who carried that killing aura and kept heading in the same direction, right?

"Adventurers?"

Shien immediately became a little excited.

This was one of Another World's most popular professions!

Making a living by completing other people's commissions and quests for rewards was a dream profession renowned among those who dreamed of Another World. There was no way Shien would not know about it.

"Then does this place have something like an Adventurer's Guild too?"

With that thought in mind, Shien could not help quickening his pace, following the flow of adventurers ahead.

It was worth mentioning that Shien carried a long, narrow bundle clearly made of animal hide on his back.

Naturally, the bundle contained Shien's Holy Sword.

This was a preparation Shien had made before entering town.

It could not be helped. The Holy Sword was far too conspicuous in every sense. If he brought it in just like that, Shien feared he would instantly become the center of attention and perhaps draw the greed and covetousness of others.

So Shien wrapped the Holy Sword in the animal hide that he had originally used as a blanket to keep warm during nights in the wilderness. In this way, he kept the Holy Sword at his side while avoiding unwanted attention.

Just like that, Shien followed the crowd and a group of adventurers who were obviously heading in the same direction, arriving before a building.

It was a building that clearly stood apart from the rest.

It stood in the middle of a vast plaza, with no other residences around it. Though it appeared to have only four or five floors, it occupied a considerable area, and its design and decoration differed from the other buildings, making it look much more distinctive.

A sign hung above the building's entrance.

On the left side of the sign was a sword, while on the right was a flame, as though it displayed the symbol of "sword and magic." In the middle, a line of Another World script was written: "Adventurer's Guild."

"There really is an Adventurer's Guild!"

Shien first smiled, then froze.

"Wait, how can I read those words?"

That was right. Shien could read the writing of Another World.

No, it was not just the writing. Shien could understand the language spoken by people in this world as well.

Like what the gate guard had said earlier—only now did Shien realize that he had understood it at the time. Even now, he could understand the words of the people around him.

"I heard someone spotted a Griffin in the outskirts."

"No way, right?"

"A Griffin? A Griffin actually appeared?"

"A monster that high-level should only appear in that dangerous Teria Forest, shouldn't it?"

"I just hope a monster of that level doesn't fly over here."

"Exactly. I don't want to be called up to deal with a monster like a Griffin."

The surrounding adventurers chatted like this as they went in and out through the Adventurer's Guild's entrance.

They were clearly using a language Shien did not know, yet for some reason, he could understand it. He could recognize the writing too, and only now did he realize that even the words he himself spoke had turned into Another World's language.

"Is this one of the perks of being a reincarnated Hero?"

Shien scratched his head.

Still, Shien did not dwell on it. Instead, he felt that it had spared him a great deal of trouble.

"Not having to worry about being unable to communicate in Another World is the best possible outcome."

With that thought, Shien entered the Adventurer's Guild before him.

The Adventurer's Guild, first-floor hall.

It was a vast hall without any unnecessary rooms.

The hall was packed with adventurers wearing all kinds of equipment. Some sat in groups of three or five around tables and chairs placed throughout the hall, chatting animatedly about something. Others gathered before a notice board, seriously reading the sheets of parchment displayed there. Still others crowded around the counters, speaking with people dressed as staff members. It was even livelier than the streets outside.

Shien's arrival did not attract anyone's attention. Only a few people shifted their gazes, glanced at him, then looked away and continued with what they were doing.

Clearly, to adventurers, ragged Shien was not someone worth noticing.

However, a few observant people still noticed that something about Shien was unusual.

That could not be helped.

It was Shien's first time here, so he inevitably looked around everywhere. One glance was enough to tell that he was a newcomer.

"Hey! You there, newbie! The counter's over there! If you need to handle something, go there! Stop wandering around!"

A burly man who was drinking shouted impatiently at Shien as he passed. His attitude was quite unpleasant, but he pointed Shien in the right direction.

It seemed the man had a warm heart completely at odds with his appearance and behavior.

"Thanks."

Naturally, Shien understood that. After smiling at the man, he headed toward the counter.

And when Shien arrived at the counter, a guild employee immediately received him.

"Welcome to the Lamigium Adventurer's Guild. How may I help you?"

A beautiful young woman with a rather innocent appearance sat behind the counter. Smiling at Shien, she asked him this question.

That let Shien learn one thing.

The name of this town was Lamigium.

The second update was here.
