Now, it was the Mutant Brotherhood's main gathering place in New York.

Back in Sokovia, she and her brother had watched Kraft and his companions crush Baron Strucker's Hydra forces with overwhelming ease, but they did not actually hate Kraft.
Learning about what Kraft and Martin Lee had been through afterward was part of the reason, but the main reason was that they had been scared out of their wits at the time...
Whatever the reason, neither of them had any intention of seeking revenge on Kraft or Martin Lee.
However, the Maximoff siblings had not let go of their hatred for Tony Stark. They first spent some time tracking down a few Hydra enhanced people who had not been in Sokovia at the time, then Wanda simply used her powers to alter their memories and make them serve her.
After gathering an initial group of members, they came to America to seek revenge on Stark. As luck would have it, S.H.I.E.L.D. was purging Hydra at the time, and through a series of misunderstandings, their group somehow ended up fighting S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers.
Unfortunately, Iron Man had not been there. After defeating the Avengers, Wanda and Pietro did not hurt them, choosing instead to leave with their followers. They also picked up some Hydra remnants along the way-or, more precisely, those remnants latched onto them.
